Livingston County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of 2000, the population is 14,558. Its county seat is Chillicothe6. The county was named for Secretary of State Edward Livingston.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,395 km² (538 mi²). 1,384 km² (535 mi²) of it is land and 10 km² (4 mi²) of it (0.73%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 14,558 people, 5,736 households, and 3,797 families residing in the county. The population density was 11/km² (27/mi²). There were 6,467 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (12/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 95.91% White, 2.33% Black or African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 5,736 households out of which 30.40% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.50% were married couples living together, 8.40% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.80% were non-families. 30.50% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.60% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.96.

In the county the population was spread out with 24.40% under the age of 18, 7.40% from 18 to 24, 26.20% from 25 to 44, 23.00% from 45 to 64, and 19.00% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 84.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $32,290, and the median income for a family was $40,902. Males had a median income of $29,782 versus $19,249 for females. The per capita income for the county was $16,685. About 8.60% of families and 12.40% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.30% of those under age 18 and 11.30% of those age 65 or over.
