The Liverpool Garston seat will be abolished at the next election following boundary chanages, to be replaced with a new Garston and Halewood constituency, which will also cover part of the Knowsley borough.

The Labour Party have held Liverpool Garston since the 1983 general election. Prior to that time the constituency was a Labour/Conservative marginal; however since then the Conservative share of the vote has declined to less than 10% in the 2005 election, when they came third behind the Liberal Democrats.
