LiveUpdate

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

LiveUpdate is a software program written by Symantec Corporation which provides continuous product support by downloading and installing updates to its products, including virus definition updates for its flagship product Norton AntiVirus.

The current version of LiveUpdate is 3.2.0.41, and can be downloaded from Symantec's website. Newer versions of LiveUpdate can still update older versions of Symantec products that may have shipped with an older version of LiveUpdate.

LiveUpdate can be both run in Interactive Mode or in Express Mode. In Interactive mode (default), Live Update will download the lists of updates then you are given a time to choose which updates should be downloaded. Express mode will download all updates regardless of your liking.

[edit] Subscription

A subscription is required to use LiveUpdate and download product updates, including the latest virus/threat definitions and intrusion detection signatures (for Norton Personal Firewall and Norton Internet Security).

Each Symantec product includes an annual product subscription good for up to one year, after which you must purchase a renewal subscription for another year of product updates. Generally, renewing your subscription is less expensive than purchasing a new version of the Symantec product with a year of subscription included.

[edit] Removal

Symantec allows the removal of LiveUpdate from a computer. But this also removes the update services in those products. To remove it, go to Add/Remove Programs in your Windows machine.
