Little White Lies (magazine)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eschewing hype, gossip and meaningless celebrity, Little White Lies is a magazine that engages with movie lovers who understand that cinema is about broadening your horizons. Music, travel, fashion and current events are all aspects of the movie-going experience, and Little White Lies is the first and only magazine to embrace them all. It's a tangible representation of the conversation about films that you wished you had. It's a magazine about truth and movies. (See: http://www.littlewhitelies.co.uk)

It uniquely uses a tripartite ranking system (as explained in The Guardian on 20 July 2005: http://film.guardian.co.uk/features/featurepages/0,,1531983,00.html) which reviews films in three areas. The categories are: Anticipation, Enjoyment and In Retrospect. Each category receives a mark out of five with a brief portion of explanatory text.

In the early days of the magazine, The Guardian reported - on 12 September 2005 - on the genesis of the magazine, writing that "Danny Miller conceived Little White Lies with his schoolfriend Matthew Bochenski when aged 17 and they carried the dream with them through university and into their first jobs at skate and snowboard magazine Adrenalin. When the independent publishers behind Adrenalin collapsed last November, he put together the first issue of Little White Lies with Bochenski" (see: http://media.guardian.co.uk/mediaguardian/story/0,,1567549,00.html)

The magazine is art directed by Paul Willoughby (http://www.paulwilloughby.com) & Rob Longworth (http://www.roblongworth.co.uk).

The magazine also runs a film club in association with popular retailer Fopp (see: http://www.fopp.co.uk/stores/tcr/index.php or http://www.littlewhitelies.co.uk/pages/filmclub.php)

The magazine has just released Issue 10 - The Chinese Film Special Issue (http://www.littlewhitelies.co.uk/pages/latest.php)
