"Motivation Proclamation" (2001) |
"Little Things" is the first single by pop punk band Good Charlotte, released in 2001. It talks about the things that may seem insignificant but really have a huge impact on a persons life (eg, "the time that girl broke up with me coz I wasn't cool enough", and "the rich kids had convertibles and we had to ride the bus").

[edit] Music video
The music video shows the band performing in a high school, beginning with lead singer Joel Madden breaking into the principal's office and announcing over the speaker system that the song is dedicated to "every kid who ever got picked last in gym class", "Every kid who never had a date to no school dance", and to "Everyone who's ever been called a freak". The band then proceed to wreak havoc on the school, with students running out of class to see them perform, after Billy plugged their sound system into the Principal's microphone. The clip ends with the band members trying to rearrange the letters on the school notice board to 'GOOD CHARLOTTE'.
The High School used in the shooting of the music video is Lorne Park Secondary School, located in the Peel region of Ontario, Canada, in Mississauga, Ontario.
[edit] Trivia
- Mandy Moore makes a cameo appearance in the video. She plays the girl the lyrics make reference to at the end of the first verse, "Like the time that girl broke up with me 'cause I wasn't cool enough".
- The name on the door of the principal's office is Donald Gilmore. This is a reference to Don Gilmore, the producer of the song, and the rest of band's debut album. Gilmore would go on to produce the band's fourth album.
- Billy Martin really wishes he hadn't worn the red pants in this video. In an interview in 2004, when asked what the band would tell their younger selves, Billy immediately responded "Don't wear the red pants!", and on the DVD commentary for the song, Billy says "What was I thinking, wearing red pants?"
- On the commentary for the video included on the Good Charlotte Video Collection DVD, the band state that they aren't particularly fond of this video, but that they wouldn't do it differently because it was a learning experience for them.
- The video was filmed at Lorne Park Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario
- "Little Things" was played in Dude, Where's My Car? during the scene where Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott make out.
