[edit] History
In 1996, the Tribal Council of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska withdrew from the Nebraska Indian Community College and chartered its own tribal college. The college was named after Little Priest, the last war chief of the Ho-Chunk people.
The college offered academic courses and community education classes in August 1996. The two-year college was chartered as the education arm of the tribe and designed to offer an Associate's degree which would readily transfer to a four-year institution.
Little Priest Tribal College was accredited during the summer of 1998. The college has been approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and is a member of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium. Wayne State College is its sponsoring accredited institution.
