Little Portugal, San Jose
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Little Portugal is a small area of East San Jose that is bordered by 28th Street and King Road and essentially follows Alum Rock Avenue. In the heydays of the 1970s through the late 1990s there were many shops and restaurants to serve the Portuguese community of San Jose. As immigration to the United States from the Azores Islands and Portugal has slowed down to a trickle many of the stores are closed. There are still several shops open.
The anchor of Little Portugal is Five Wounds Portuguese National Church and the I.E.S. (Irmandade do Espirito Santo) Hall next to the church.
