Lite-On is a popular Taiwanese manufacturer of consumer electonics, including monitors, motherboards, DVD and CD devices, and other electronic components.

Their products are usually very inexpensive and used by OEM PC manufacturers. Many OEM drives are actually re-branded Lite-On drives. The name "Lite-On" is pronounced "Light On". [1]

Lite-On drives are also popular among experts for their bitsetting features, the learning mode (HyperTuning), the disc quality (C1/C2, PIE/PIF, Jitter/Beta, TE/FE) scanning, and the huge number of unofficial tools and firmwares available for the drives.

In 2006, Lite-On IT acquired BenQ's Optical Disc Drive (ODD) business. Lite-On IT is now the second largest optical disc drive manufacturer in the world.

In February of 2007, the European Union approved Lite-On's buy into the Philips-BenQ joint venture on digital storage. Lite-On will buy out the BenQ shares under the current deal and the joint venture will be renamed Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions.
