[edit] Inline Citations

Hi lisa. Just stopping by because I saw your use of the 'ref' perameter on Road Troll, and I thought you might be interested in learning about the new version, Cite Web. This allows for full, in-line citations as you'd find in a research journal (now a requirement for an article to be rated Good or Featured). Here's how it works: after what you're adding the citation to, put the cite web template, along with whatever parameters are neccisary. Typically, you'll need the first three (though you can still add as many parameters as neccisary), so that'll look something like this:

<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.loremipsum.com|title=Example Title|accessdate=2006-10-03}}</ref>

However, there's a second part needed as well, even if you choose to continue using just the ref parameter. At the bottom of the article, create a section entitled, "References", and in it, put simply:

<references/>

This creates a full, printed out list of your references, so you don't just have the numbers in the article. I'll do this part on Road Troll so you can see how it works. If you're curious, there are similar citation templates for citing any source you can think of. Hope you find all that helpful! --InShaneee 14:34, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Loading pics

Dont forget to turn on your regular email, so we can communicate privately. To load a picture:

  • What links here
  • Related changes
  • User contributions
  • E-mail this user
  • Upload file
  • Special pages
  • Printable version
  • Permanent link

Go to the menu on the left and choose Upload file. Then browse till you find it. Once uploaded it gets a name based on the file name you uploaded. So it becomes "Image:WhateverInamedIt.jpg". Then cut and paste it back into the article as [[Image:WhateverInamedIt.jpg|thumb|caption]]

[edit] Archiving

Actually, I had Werdna himself help me with the setup. The howto page is here. Basically, here's what you'll need: {{subst:User:Werdnabot/Archiver/Template|age=(age)|target=(target)|dounreplied=(dounreplied)}}

Age is how old (in days) a thread must be before archiving, target is the page to archive to (I have mine in the format:

"User talk:Lisapollison/Archive/{{CURRENTMONTHABBREV}}"

which creates date-sensitive archives), and dounreplied, if set to "yes", will archive threads with just one comment in them (by default, these are ignored by the bot). Of course, remove all the quotes from these before adding them. That help any? :) --InShaneee 19:35, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scarlett the cat

I've at least gotten together a stub on the request you made. I also noted that the North Shore Animal League itself has no article yet. If you could get together some information about that organization to create an article, I think we would all be grateful. I will try to work on one myself, but right now, with a number of major projects in the offing, I may rather quickly forget this one. If nothing else, though, the red link should be enough to get someone to create a North Shore artile in time. Thanks for the suggestion. And, for what it's worth, we would certainly welcome you as a member of the project if you should want to join it. Badbilltucker 15:08, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Considering you "created" the article with your request and it wouldn't have been anywhere near as good without your input,

Updated DYK query On October 24, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Scarlett the cat, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

[edit] Leonard Kastle

Thanks for your praise. The tidbit the Kastle wrote operas caught my attention when reading the review of The Honeymoon Killers in Video Watchdog. While its presence in the Criterion Collection set my expectations a bit too high, it is a very good film. Everything on theat page I got either from Criterion's interview with him (in which he dropped about five hints about his sexual preference, but nothing citable) or from the page on The Leonard Kastle Papers, which I forwarded to my dad, whose mother and aunts were all raised by the Shakers that consequently has him interested in everything Shaker-related. I'd be interested in hearing his work. My brief experience as a music student (never my major) gave the imperssion that the academy wants more Arnold Schoenbergs and Milton Babbitts and could care less about Leonard Kastles and Michael Nymans. --Scottandrewhutchins 18:48, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome to e-mail me whatever you'd like about this. Info is on my profile. --Scottandrewhutchins 21:08, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Former countries

Welcome to WikiProject Former countries. The project is currently under construction, so if you are looking for something to do, you can:

  • ...tag relevant articles with the {{WPFC}} banner, so we can build a proper list of the articles that we need to work on. Feel free to rate any articles as you go.
  • ...pick a region and start work on bringing those entries up to standard. We would like to have {{Infobox Former Country}} in use for all entries on former states.

If you have any questions or suggestions, let us know! - 52 Pickup 07:32, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I actually wrote that article when you asked on paranormal page. :) I'm not that great of an author so it might not be great right now... but I've collected all the sources for someone to fill it out with some beautiful prose. ---J.S (T/C) 17:13, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to WikiProject LGBT studies!

Hi, Lisapollison, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

-- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 21:35, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Not a problem at all! Feel free to tag articles, and if you do, go ahead and rate them. The assessment guidelines will help, and it doesn't have to be perfect. We currently have 0 un-assessed articles, and I try to keep it that way :) And again, welcome to the WP! Jump in wherever you'd like - assessment I mentioned, jump-a-class can be fun, translation if you feel so inclined, collaboration can always use some input, peer-review is just getting started, or just hang out at the talk page and see what's going on. By the way, each of those links is a shortcut, in case you're interested. So Welcome!! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 02:15, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of Criticism and response in parapsychology

Hi Lisa, I read your comment on my little piece on the Paranormal project talk page. So I know you understand about true belief either way. I'm wondering if you'd like to comment/vote on the recent move to delete the Criticism and response in parapsychology article. I heavily edited much of it (the content was transferred from the main Parapsychology page). I'm perhaps too interested, but I'm wondering if the move to delete is idologically motivated, given the paucity of reasons (the main one is "I do not believe that Wikipedia is the proper place to air disagreements. Martinphi (Talk Ψ Contribs) 02:37, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks! ^^

Thanks! :) The picture is of my actual cat, Crystal, and is what inspired me to write the article. --Candy-Panda 02:56, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Parapsychology response, response

That's a totally great and erudite commentary (: . But you're also supposed to vote. Martinphi (Talk Ψ Contribs) 03:22, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

I've been advised to create a sandbox for the Criticism and response in parapsychology article. It's here, renamed to Controversy in parapsychology. I'm not sure if people want to edit under my user page, or edit the main article. But, if it's decided to edit the sandbox, It would be great to have your input. I won't be editing in the beginning, while I see what format people want to use etc. I'm putting this on several talk pages. Martinphi (Talk Ψ Contribs) 05:29, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:LGBT Coordinator Election Notice

[edit] Thanks for finding that article for me.

I was intending on posting that if you hadn't already found that but unfortunately it was neither linked to either the Horror of Fang Rock or Max Headroom articles. DrWho42 01:51, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cocktail article request

Hi there, and thanks for your request for a new cocktail article. I have created the new article for you, although I encourage you to be bold in future. The article can be found at "Pegu (cocktail), and desperately needs some more content, particularly with regards to the history, popularity and culture of the drink. In addition, my brief research has uncovered some ambiguity as to the precise ingredient list and quantities. Although variation in the proportion of ingredients is not unusual, difference in the ingredients used is. As a priority, I encourage you to check the recipe in the infobox (which I got from the first google result for "pegu cocktail"), to ensure it is the correct and most common version. If not, please feel free to edit the infobox to correct the recipe. Happy editing! Happy-melon 17:54, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the welcome!

Hey there! Thanks for the welcome and the code. I'm working on getting some of the SUNY radio stations updated, after which I suppose I might go after some of the other college stations. A tall order, for sure! Froginabox 19:47, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
