Template talk:List of people sequence Oh
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This sequence template is atypical in using (3 times) template:Inv-prfx, a mechanism for entries where the lk'd title is to be Inverted (into surname/given-name order) and the surname begins with a prefix that is separated by a space from the rest of the surname. At present, one surname, Ó hAilpín, is involved, in three entries (for three brothers).
The reason for Template:List of people sequence Oh is to maintain one list of names beginning Oh..., O'H..., and O hA... (and perhaps variations i haven't found examples for), while also providing for a stretch within LoPbN where the O-prefixed ones are found together, uninterrupted by e.g. Hans von Ohain and Bertil Ohlin. The reason for the other, template:Inv-prfx, is to have an entry within the template's content that provides the typography Ó hAilpín within the prefix list, while displaying ÓhAilpín (squeezing out the space) in the general Oh list, as may be expected by those seeking it there from lack of awareness of its involving a prefix (or of the option of searching for a name only among those starting with the same prefix). (The version without the space also helps the eye to perceive the regularity of the fronts of adjacent words and spot more quickly the points where the letter at an early position changes from entry to entry.)
If there's a need to change an entry that uses {{Inv-prfx}}, say because it turns out the diacritical marks aren't quite right, just bear in mind what the template governs the piping of the link completely, and affects nothing else. The portion of the lk markup to the left of the pipe-character should match precisely the title of the bio, and if it doesn't, it must match precisely the title of a rdr that targets the bio. Everything outside the lk markup is just as normal.
