[edit] Smoke test of new template

The template now uses a new, stubby version of one of a handful of templates that should obviate the clumsy tho valuable scheme illustrated in the preceding section.

  1. The overall function of
    {{Lopbn L3 by cores|name||Dan|i}}
    is to link to all the pages for names that begin with the 3 letters "Dan".
  2. The arg "name" directs linking to a page dedicated to people for whom "Dan" is not just the beginning of a longer name (like Dangerfield or Danson), but a whole name (including the first name of a "tandem" surname composed of multiple distinct names, as in Terry Dan-Smith). (Such a page of course excludes people generally identified by their surname and given name together, with "Dan" as the given name.)
  3. The arg "i" indicates a link to a page dedicated to names beginning "Dani".
  4. The remaining names among those beginning with something from Dana thru Danz are implicitly included, via links to two pages for those before and those after the Dani names respectively.

Thus: [[List of people by name: namea-namez|namea-namez]]
