Talk:List of songs about politicians

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Did the submitter have a political agenda or didnt the leftists have any songs about Bill Clinton's exploitation of women? Man, you guys are hypocrites!

Okay, I can understand removing Joan of Arc, Cromwell, etc., but Oswald Mosley was clearly a politician so Elvis Costello's "Less Than Zero" should definitely be here, IMO. Dcarrano 01:08, July 18, 2005 (UTC)

  • If any songs got lost in the organization, feel free to re-add it. It certainly wasn't intentional. And Joan of Arc is still there. CanadianCaesar 01:19, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
    • Ah, okay, gotcha. Dcarrano 01:23, July 18, 2005 (UTC)
      • I think the problem is fixed. Sorry about that. CanadianCaesar 01:25, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
        • Just ran a careful double-check. Everything's restored. CanadianCaesar 01:50, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] how much per-line info

Question: If a song, such as "Post World War II Blues" by Al Stewart, which I just added, refers to politicians in three different categories, do we include all five names at all three listings? Seems a bit excessive to me, so I didn't. — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 05:26, July 18, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] About politicians

How can a song like "Ohio" get on there, just because it mentions Nixon? It's supposed to be songs about politicians, isn't it. This needs to be more clear, because this has been a problem with a number of these kind of articles. We must either change the name and basis of this article or take off songs such as "Ohio" which was about the Kent State shootings, NOT Richard Nixon. TrafficBenBoy 21:22, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

I removed "16 Military Wives" by The Decemberists. IMHO, since it doesn't mention Bush explicitly, and it's not self-evident from the lyrics, this one should cite a source for the claim that "Many speculate due to their music video...", preferably something from the song's composers themselves. "Mosh" by Eminem is about George W. Bush, and while it mentions George H.W. Bush in the line "let him impress daddy that way", it is not about him. Therefore, I removed it from the George H.W. Bush list.
