What is the use of this (obviously) limited overview when there are specialized sites (such as The Breaks? Just wondering... --80.201.15.231 08:02, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
- I agree. Isn't this just a waste of space/time/energy/etc? Especially when there is a link in the main article on sampling to a massive database like The-Breaks. It may be helpful to include some examples in the main article, but another article claiming to "list" sampled songs is rather pointless in the face of The-Breaks.--droptone 21:29, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

- personally i think the breaks is harder to manage and having them all listed in one place is a great idea. i would suggest we spend more time on pages that specliaze on particular artists like the list for Kanye West me and Shawn88 have been working on. I was thinking starting one for 9th Wonder, but dont have the time right now. we should find a way to make this article more specialized instead of a brief overview IMO. --Jaysscholar 21:41, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- True indeed The-Breaks is massive and hard to manage, but to desire to tag all samples on Wikipedia seems wasteful to me. If you want to list some samples on the pages of the producers, like on the page on Kanye West's production discography, then that seems fine. I still think those sorts of pages ought to be subsections of the main page of the artist/producer, with samples being listed in order to describe the producers style (e.g. Public Enemy's Bombsquad's usage of an insane number of samples or Dr Dre's early works using golden era funk and soul samples). That helps better describe the individual sound of the producers and does not require the entry of all their samples (especially since some artists and producers have decided against getting clearance for some or all of their samples, and merely 'dig deeper').--droptone 04:19, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
- yea, listing all samples wont happen. so i propose we specialize. i wouldnt put them as sections in a main page just because some of them have a lot of production. if anybody wants to start up a project, let me know. i'm down to contribute. --Jaysscholar 16:38, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
- So let's get to this. Produced-By database is a good general resource for production resumes. Here is another DJ Premier list. Here is a list for The Alchemist. Here is a list for Kanye West. Here is a list for Pete Rock. Those boards may have some more production lists (and surely they are incomplete). Should us two work on artists one at a time? Make a list of producers we want to cover? What? Hit me up on my talk page and we can get to work.--droptone 01:20, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

I see nothing wrong with this page. Yeah, it isn't going to have everything, but it is very interesting and worth keeping. Buzda 23:16, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
Another thing is, The Breaks actually is missing a lot of things, and since it's a heck of a lot quicker to put that missing information here then there, it's nice to have it. I've come across a ton of samples in my attempts to improve the list that aren't on The Breaks. With some work, it can be a really great list. And besides, isn't the point of Wikipedia to have information, if you need it? It'd be unfair not to have a list like this for people who squarely want to use Wikipedia. "Only U" isn't sampled with "Why You Treat Me So Bad." The interlude that plays before "Only U," "Message To The Fans," is the one with the "Why You Treat Me So Bad" sample.

[edit] Sample of a sample
Somehow songs that use a sample from a song that already contains a sample from a song should be acknowledged like Blu Cantrell's "Breath" which uses a sample from Dr. Dre's "What's The Difference. "What's The Difference?", sampled "Parce que tu crois" by Charles Aznavour. Buzda 14:41, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Does this work okay?
- Charles Aznavour
- "Parce que tu crois", La Bohème
- Dr. Dre: "What's The Difference?" (featuring Xzibit and Eminem), 2001, 1999
- Blu Cantrell: "Breathe (featuring Sean Paul)", Bittersweet, 2003
- Dr. Dre: "What's The Difference?" (featuring Xzibit and Eminem), 2001, 1999

[edit] Things to add
In the song "Just One Night" by Cassie ft Ryan Leslie it uses harp samples from "If It's Magic"
that one is legit I'm sure but here is an interesting. It could be a coincidence
Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, the medley that rapunzels sings is the exact same diddy at the end of a song called "The Day Begins" by the Moody Blues.
I will add more details later.

[edit] hmmm
I don't think "Just A Friend 2002" by Mario samples "Just A Friend" by Biz Markie- but just a remake. Ideas?
[edit] these lists should be split into the articles for the individual songs
As the heading says. I don't want to just delete this right off, but it's useless as a big massive list. Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 23:01, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] This article should just be split into seperate articles by year
What do you think? I can't bare to see all this information removed.Buzda 03:12, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- this information is unreferenced and possibly original research. Is this really useful to have in a massive pile at all? Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 04:41, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Nevermind, the articles have been split by letter. Buzda 08:24, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
