Talk:List of people who died on their birthdays
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've added Moses and David. Both are reported by Jewish tradition to have died on their birthday (following the Jewish year): Moses on 7 Adar and David on 5 Sivan (the holiday of Shavuot). JFW | T@lk 20:20, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Hi. I edited these entries out last night, and only saw your post later. For the same reasons that we don't include Shakespeare who according to tradition is supposed to have died on his birthday, I don't think that David and Moses belong on the list. Tradition is fine in its proper context, and I mean no disrespect to Jewish tradition, but for encyclopedic purposes traditions don't always equate to factual information. It's not really a matter of disrespect or not. I'd say the birthdate of most people on this list is anecdotal. They should remain here in the same form as Shakespeare. I will have no trouble finding the Talmudic references. It is not without significance; according to the same Talmudic sources it is a sign of righteousness, making this a pretty encyclopedic addition indeed. JFW | T@lk 18:19, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
I have put back the two gentlemen together with Shakespeare, and added the relevant sources from Jewish literature. I think this is adequate. JFW | T@lk 23:18, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
