Talk:List of people known by initials

don't non-Americans ever use initials? Tuf-Kat
- there are non-Americans? (said like a naive american) Kingturtle 23:16 Apr 18, 2003 (UTC)

- American is the only written language, so names in other places don't have initials.
good stuff
I'm not sure whether the "initials + name" list wouldn't do better on a separate page. It's too "easy" by comparison, and sort of distracts attention from the neat cases where the initials alone are used.
Also, there should be some standardization as to whether initials are punctuated: J. F. K. or JFK? Most of them seem to be going the latter way.
I don't think we need Individuals known by first name and middle initial in addition to their surname Because basically there's a pretty large number of people in public life with a middle name. Mintguy
You're right. The heading is too broad. Cimon Avaro on a pogo stick 22:39 10 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Malcom X isn't known by initials -- the X is because he felt his birth surname, Little, was a remnant of slavery. It's only his initial in Portuguese (for "Xabaz," of course). --Calieber 17:04, 21 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Did Douglas Noel Adams really have an umlaut on his middle name? I've never seen it written with one anywhere else. Bonalaw 13:26, 17 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Whoever added "J.D." (I ain't about to go trolling through the entire history for it!), he was known as J.D. Roberts, never just as J.D. Bearcat 07:11, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Individuals whose use of their middle initial carries special significance
Darn it, the entry should state what that "special significance" is. I just did a quick check; our article on Ursula K. Le Guin does not explain the "special significance" of the K.
Or did I miss something?
This isn't a section for every married daughter of someone notable, is it?
I'll go further: for entries where the "special significance" isn't explained, the entry ought to be removed in due course. Dpbsmith (talk) 22:51, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- I just noticed it, and noticed there was a previous comment. I copied some info from Mr. Banks which shows significance. Lists should extend mere categorisation. Why would we call for special significance anyway? Zanaq 20:12, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] M & Q, ET & Q
- M, from the James Bond films and books.
- Q, from the James Bond films and books.
- Not really initials, innit? And E.T. and Q are really borderline. -- Zanaq 12:31, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
