Talk:List of obscure baseball records
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oh, come on, you're being no fun. No way should this page be deleted! I've heard all kinds of bizarre statistics and supposedly superlative occurrences in baseball, and I was thinking that it would be fun to see a list of them. What better place for it than a Wikipedia list page? I can't think of many of them offhand (although I thought the two I did come up with were pretty good), but I imagine the list will grow. I've properly cited the two examples and set a standard that should be followed, so I don't see a problem. It's perfect trivia for Wikipedia. Sparkyfry 17:36, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Not Nearly Comprehensive Enough
There are only stats here for one event in 1996, and the rest are events that happened this season. It looks like someone just copied a list of wacky 2006 Happenings and put them here. Not only that, but most of these are totally insignificant. Unless you can go back and do similar stats for at least the last 10 years, it seems pretty unworthy of article space. Why is it significant that all-star lefties have started against each other just twice since 1989? How many times has it happened ever? What about righties? It's just a bad article with a vague name that is totally unnecessary. Flannel 23:42, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- This discussion has already happened. (See here.) The article has been growing at a reasonable pace as obscure things happen in baseball. It's natural that a majority of the records are current, since those are fresh in people's mind. Next year, there will also be plenty of events occurring during the 2007 season as well. I suspect if the article stays around for a few years, it will disproportionately describe events that occurred in 2006 or later. However, that's a flaw with Wikipedia, not with the concept of the article. If individual entries are unworthy of inclusion, they can be deleted. Sparkyfry 05:24, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Is this a record?
It's safe to say that my knowledge of baseball is a tad limited, but I came across this article, C.B. Burns, deep in the bowels of Wikipedia, amongst the pages which aren't linked to, and I am sure that it must be some sort of record. Flowerpotman 02:30, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
