The current edition of Doctor Who is recognized by the BBC as a revival of the original series: the series with Tim Eccleston last year is officially designated "Series One." Thus the current edition of Doctor Who has spanned all of two seasons. 147.70.242.40 20:55, 9 February 2007 (UTC) While the beeb may call it a revival, it still has the same name, same characters, and the storyline continues and is contiguous..so for all effective purposes, it is a continuation of the orginal show, and not a re-writeDeathlibrarian

Like Romper Room, Bozo's Circus was not a national (or even regional) series as Bozo was a franchise. The mention of this in the list as "longest-running children's series" is extremely misleading. Mr. Squiggle is the more "legitimate" claimant of the "title."

The most-watched single episode of a comedy was not the Seinfeld finale, but the final episode of M*A*S*H. In fact, it is the most-watched single episode of any program that was broadcast in America. 147.70.242.40 20:55, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

"Here's humphrey" started in may 1965, and is still inproduction...so beats Mr Squiggle, Alas! Deathlibrarian 03:06, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Longest running animation

Made a few corrections. Simpsons is not the longest running Animated series, in fact its way off. It is Doraemon, which has 1044 eps and has been running since 1979 - Present. The german show Das Sandmann was also very long, though not sure if its animated or puppets? Deathlibrarian 13:04, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Wrong, Sazae-san is broadcasted since 1969. 19:26, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Nope you are incorrect, Unser Sandmann - started 1959 (if its still going?)_ Deathlibrarian 00:59, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Comedy

Longest running comedy is again not the Simpsons, the UK sitcom Last of the Summer wine, which has been going since 1973Deathlibrarian 13:04, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Longest running comedy, by episodes is the adventures of Ozzie and Harriet 435.Deathlibrarian 00:54, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New article name needed!

"List of notable television programs" is too vague and too POV - I suggest something more along the line of "Television program longevity records" as "notable" and "notability" are completely subjective. 147.70.242.40 15:57, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

I agree. Longest running TV programs? Deathlibrarian 00:54, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Suggested Merge

Longest running TV shows by category is badly formatted and contains information duplicted on this page. I suggest that they are merged. MrWeeble Talk Brit tv 00:23, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm...well they are different pages - this page lists longest running TV shows - the notable page features information about a range of notable features of shows eg, first gay character, show with most seasons, first show aired, etc. So I suppose there is an arguem to just keep this as a simpler page with the longest durations, by type.Deathlibrarian

[edit] Cop show

Someone pointed out that Taggart is in fact the worlds longest running TV show, started in 1983 and still going, though numerous actors have died since Deathlibrarian
