[edit] Brasstown

The link to Brasstown, NC has to be to "Brasstown, North Carolina" rather than just "Brasstown" as the latter is a disambiguation page and we don't link directly to such pages. There is currently no article on "Brasstown, North Carolina", but there are already eight pages that link to that page name, so once an article is created all those links will work; they'll turn from "red" links to blue.

It might be worth mentioning here also that where there are links to geographical articles with the state or county as part of the name, it may look sensible to omit a separate link to the state or county (e.g. "Adlington, Cheshire"). However, that would be inconsistent with entries where the town and county are separate links. For consistency, therefore, I've maintained separate links for town and county/state even though the links are a bit more complex, e.g. Adlington, Cheshire Charivari 02:09, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Guidelines

I've been thinking about writing down some guidelines for this List, and here are my initial suggestions:

[edit] Dance styles to include

• Cotswold morris
• Border morris
• North-western
• Garland
• Clog morris
• Molly
• Rapper sword

Note that sides who only perform Mumming, "Clog step" or "Appalachian" are not included.

[edit] Entry format

• Divided into alphabetic sections.
• Team name: linked to its own wikipedia article, if any, else to the side's own web site, if any, else not linked.
• Other web link: if the side's name is not linked as above, then some other web page which mentions the side can be added as a footnote-style link.
• Location: usually a town or village, rarely something like "diverse places within...". The town should be wikilinked even if there is currently no article on that town. Remember that articles on towns sometimes include the county/state name in the article title, in which case pipe the link to just the town name. (E.g. Ryton).
• County or state: wikilinked. Where an abbreviation is used, e.g. a two-letter US state abbreviation, the link should point to the correct article name with a pipe to the abbreviation. (E.g. NC).
• Country: wikilinked, with pipe if needed. (E.g. USA).
• Status: append "(defunct)", "(inactive)", or similar, where appropriate. The term can be linked to a web page that mentions the side's non-active status.

[edit] Questions

• Should the list include Mummers and/or step-dance sides? I think they're too far from the subject of the List, as implied by its title, for inclusion, but other lists of sides do include them.
• The List is rather long. Should it be divided alphabetically into two or more articles linked from one short "root" article?
• Linking every occurrence of county/state and country seems extravagant, and would definitely not be appropriate in a prose article, but in a List-type article it might be defensible. Should repeated links (say, within a single alphabetic section) be avoided?
• Defunct web sites, whether or not the side is defunct, may sometimes be found on the Internet Archive. Such archived pages will, by definition, be out of date, but might still offer some useful information. Should such links be included? (They might be more appropriate as a footnote link after the side name rather than being linked to the side name.)
• The Morris Dancing Wiki already has a geographically-organised list of sides. Is there a case for creating such a list in Wikipedia?
• Likewise, another web site has more information about each side, such as style(s) performed, membership of morris organisation(s) and description of kit (though the site in question is rather out of date). Should Wikipedia include such information and, if so, how should it be implemented?
