[edit] False positive?

I've been going through a lot of the blockbusters on this list to make an updated video, and can't find it for the life of me in Titanic. I've listened through the initial tearing of the hull when the engine crew gets blasted with water, and listened to the people jumping from the aft 3 times. Can anyone actually confirm it's existance and give it a timestamp, or should I just remove it like I did the false positives in Robot Chicken and Dark Forces? --Androktasie 06:29, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Watched Titanic and I didnt find it either, so good choice taking it off. 24.9.44.217 00:40, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Removed two false positives that I've removed in the past, several times, on both this list and when it was still integrated in the main wilhelm scream article. Dark Forces and Robot Chicken - Nutcracker Suite do NOT use the Wilhelm scream. They use a drawn out scream I wish I knew the name to, but it most certainly is not the Wilhelm scream. Please stop confusing the two. --Androktasie 01:38, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps the main Wilhelm article could give an audio clip of the scream sooner than it currently does? It really seems like readers are simply not listening to the example, but thinking "Oh, I remember a scream I've heard over and over again! That must be what they're talking about!" Then we get instances of that scream (see above), or any of those ubiquitous high-pitched screams that appeared in the first Command & Conquer (which I'm willing to bet are the screams that appear in the new C&C game, which I see has recently been added to the list). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gwilym (talkcontribs) 20:04, 7 April 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Alphabetical order

I just spent a fair chunk of time arranging the lists in alphabetical order. (The wonders of insomnia...) I'd just like to ask contributors who add items in future to please alphabetise them for the sake of readability.

Oh, and also.. this is the best list ever on Wikipedia. AAAAAGHHH!! (or however you spell the Wilhelm.) Rob T Firefly 05:20, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

I disagree. In my opinion it should be chronological first, alphabetical second.--Soetermans 13:19, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
The time the movie was released doesn't really matter, unless there is confusion as to which version of the movie the scream is in. If someone really wanted to know when a movie is released all they really have to do is click on the link for that movie. Also the movies are in chrono first (by decade) then alphabetical in their decade, which I think looks great.Viperix 19:16, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
IMHO, the list is segregated by decade, and each film has (or ought to have) the release year after the title IAW IMDb. Good enough. Don't make a reader have to SEARCH the page to find the title. I say, alphbetical first, within the decade grouping. David Spalding TalkContribs 15:14, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Move the page

I propose we move this article to "List of instances of the Wilhelm scream" Or some similar article title, as the scream has occured in television as well. If there's no disagreement here (And if i can think of a better page title than above) I'll conduct the move myself in a few days. TastemyHouse Breathe, Breathe in the air 23:53, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

The current title is much better. Rob T Firefly 05:20, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] StarCraft Academy Sound Name

Before, StarCraft was labeled under the Wilhelm scream list (probably a mistake) citing the Academy soundbyte. But, it's obviously a different sound but still really common like the Wilhelm Scream. Do any of you know the name of that sound, since I hear on occasion. Thanks. TCL 12:59, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I'm also curious if anyone can find out, I believe the Firebat scream, just heard it on Robot Chicken. Highlandlord 05:20, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Post a WAV sample, please, and link it here..? TIA. David Spalding TalkContribs 15:16, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Needs a clean up

This article would be better if it was chronological. It needs sources as well. Describing the scene would do it, in my opinion, but there should be at least a small notion of some kind.--Soetermans 20:52, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Its alphabetical and chronological, and your welcome to add any explainations that you know of. Please do not remove movies unless they do not contain a Wilhelm scream. Viperix 04:06, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
There are ought to be a source of somekind, don't you agree? Or else it is not reliable whether or not a Wilhelm scream was used.--Soetermans 13:18, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Absolutly I agree, but there isnt a reason to remove movies already here. I spent a lot of time adding sources for movies that didnt have them. If I had all of the ones that are missing they would all be updated. I am sure over time people will continue to add the sources. Viperix 19:16, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Non-Wilhelms

Some of these aren't true at all. Do I need to do anything special to prove it before removing them?

There's a particular scream (set of screams, actually, but I can't remember the name of the library they're from) that people seem to think is the Wilhelm scream, but isn't. As a result, there are a lot of false positives on this list. --Gwilym 12:07, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I would say just ask for someone to confirm, wait awhile and then remove it. A couple people have done this in the false positive section. Viperix 22:49, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, fair enough. Thanks!--Gwilym 01:09, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Confirm These Please

Alright, off the top of my head, here are a bunch that I saw in the list that I am sure don't have Wilhelms. I'll wait a week or so, then remove them unless someone can provide proof of some sort.

  • Command & Conquer - every single scream in this game is a massive Hollywood cliche, but not one of them is a Wilhelm, at least not in-game.
  • Half-Life 2 - I've played through this level three times, and never heard it. As well as this, Wikipedia (and the other sites that lift content from it) seems to be the only place where this one is mentioned.
  • Robocop - I don't even know where this one came from, unless you're not talking about the final scene. I've watched it over and over trying to hear it, and it doesn't seem to be anywhere. Perhaps you're hearing the woman in the background?

[edit] Citation minimum requirements?

FWIW, I think cited films ought to have the scene mentioned; many currently do not. I feel that just listing a title is lame, what're we supposed to do, watch the entire movie to find it?? E.g., Batman Returns, I zapped right to the scene mentioned to confirm it. (Yep, sounds like Wilhelm.) I wonder if we ought to start asking editors to post commented text enclosed by <!-- --> with more explicit citation. E.g., <!-- Scream is mixed with Naboo fighter explosion, not sure if this is really Wilhelm, or just sounds like it. User:Davidbspalding --> Or cite the refence in IMDb (which has a growing list of Wilhelm screams documented in films' Triva pages). Just adding my two cents, here.... -- David Spalding TalkContribs 16:45, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Without doubt, yes. --Gwilym 19:56, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Listing the title only is indeed Lame, and this topic has come up before. Next someone will suggest deleting the movies with no citation. However instead of deleting them how about moving them to the unconfirmed section until someone can provide proof. Viperix 18:26, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pirates 2 Wilhelm

I'm positive that's a Wilhelm when the Kraken snatches the superstitious captain off the merchant ship. Should we move it up to the actual list or does it actually have to have proof from somewhere? Starpossum 05:31, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dark Forces

It has been over ten years since I played this game, but I strongly remember the scream not being a Wilhelm - rather, it was that lengthy "GEEEEEEAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGHHH" scream (it appears in Broken Arrow when a man is thrown from a train, in the game Half-Life 2 when the Fast Zombies attack, and in every single New Zealand TV commercial for Nutri-Grain).--Gwilym 01:59, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
