[edit] GFDL notice

The text of this article was split off from Red vs Blue production#Maps used. History of this text prior to the split can be found in that article, as of 03:14, 20 March 2006 (UTC-4), oldid 44626866. Prior to that, text was in Red vs Blue. — TKD::Talk 09:48, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Small Nitpicks

It is implied in this article that Simmons speculated that Chiron TL34 is in fact a janitors closet. This seems to be entirely untrue, as the comment Simmons makes is more a sarcastic and exasperated statement. He has no idea where he is and it may as well be a janitors closet for all he knows. This article takes the statement a bit too literally. Misfit119 15:53, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Out of Mind maps

Why are both Turf and Outskirts listed as the setting for York trying to break into a shop? Shouldn't that only be one map? Dac 11:57, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

When it says "[Outskirts] is implied to hold a Commercial District (where York is seen breaking into a shop)", it's supposed to explain that Turf is shown as being within Outskirts. If you want to rewrite it or clarify it, go ahead. -- Viewdrix 16:34, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm still kinda lost. There's a map within a map? Or am I missing something completely? Dac 22:31, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Sections of Outskirts and sections of Turf are shown together to imply one large city. However, while we see multiple parts of Outskirts, we see one street of Turf (with the shop), labelled as the Commercial District. It seems to imply that what we see of Outskirts is the larger city, and the street from Turf is a street within that larger city. I know you've seen the episodes, so I think it's a case of poor wording. I'll thin about it and change it in a bit. -- Viewdrix 22:44, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, now I get it, thanks. The thing that threw was the fact that the wording seemed to imply the shop York attempts to break into was in two different maps. Dac 22:48, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Marathon Maps?

Should the marathon series maps used be added? Thurs 5 Oct 2006 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 60.241.125.74 (talk • contribs).

If (and only if) a reliable source can be found. Rooster Teeth has never mentioned what Marathon maps they used. — TKD::Talk 08:57, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Marathon Infinity level 1 Ne Cede Malis is the hallway that Church and Gary await for thousands of years. The other (where Churh is first seen in the past) may be Marathon 2 level 28 All Roads Lead To Sol. Monday 9 Oct 2006 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 60.241.125.74 (talk • contribs).
Yes, but the reliable source issue still stands.--Drat (Talk) 07:41, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Do we have a reliable source for every map listed here? There are no links to any.68.79.204.55 03:54, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
If someone can dig up a Burnie interview that was on bungie.net a while ago, I believe he talks about a few of the then-upcoming maps. -- Viewdrix 04:47, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Expanding/Plot details

Would it be appropriate to mention more about how the different maps influence the story, eg. when Griff screams for an entire episode after finding coagulation? - raptor 00:42, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Parts of maps that play into the story I plan to expand on, such as teleporters that they use, the fortress in Zanzibar, etc. Grif screaming forever, though, probably isn't that important. -- Viewdrix 00:56, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Value?

I'm beginning to question the encyclopedic value of this page. The fact that various maps are used for various scenes is part and parcel of machinima, especially those do not utilise custom content. What puts this apart from many other machinima productions?--Drat (Talk) 07:36, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

I agree with this sentiment. If we remember, this was added as a peer-review request, but a catalog of which episodes use which maps is pretty crufty, even if we could begin to source all of the maps properly. There are some that are basically "Line up personal observation of the various maps to what the video shows", which amounts to original research; I was guilty of this as well. Even the exception for details that can be observed without specialist knowledge doesn't apply: Knowing the set of multiplayer maps of Halo is pretty much specialist knowledge by even a conservative definition.
This doesn't mean that we can't describe the significant maps or setting choices that Burns and company have commented on. What I would do is to add material, in prose, to the Filming section of the production article — how they manipulate the perception of distance by cutting between a sniper-rifle view and a normal POV; the reverse-filmed gate in Zanzibar; the framing of Burial Mounds as a future, thawed Sidewinder; the specific choice of Hang 'Em High for Caboose's mind. Stuff like that would be more useful than just listing off all the maps, even the ones for which we have no real verification. — TKD::Talk 07:54, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes, the useful info would be much better in the Production article. I'll see what I can do to help in the next week or so, as I jot down notes from the DVD commentaries. It's been a while since I've done something really significant anyway (mostly it's reverts and fact, etc. tagging nowadays).--Drat (Talk) 08:08, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
I started to take notes as well, but had only gotten about halfway through season 1 before I moved in late July, and, seeing as my life hasn't gotten any less busy since then, it's been on indefinite hiatus. I've also been taking copyedit requests and helping out with C:CSD now and then.
As a side note, I've mentioned it before, but, since Red vs. Blue was really the first machinima series to gain widespread popularity, there are probably enough articles that cover the production process specifically that Red vs. Blue production could possibly become a featured article some day. — TKD::Talk 08:25, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
