[edit] Main Article: List of computer algebra systems
The Computer algebra system section of this list lacks many programs which provide graphs. List of computer algebra systems is much more comprehensive & would serve as a good main article for this section. Samsara correctly points out that not all CAS system supports graphing. However, a majority of those listed do & it would be appropriate to cite it as a main article or at least in the section (as is currently done for Vector graphics. I don't think it belongs in See also. Either there is the intimate link I see & it should be in the main text, or the link is remote enough that there's no reason to include it. Why would non-plotting CAS packages be any more germane there? -- Karnesky 02:19, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe you can clarify your point about vector graphics. Which page are you referring to? I can't follow your reasoning for the bifurcation. The point here is that people who are interested in graphing packages may also be interested in computer algebra systems. It makes sense to link hammer from nail even though hammers make very poor nails.
- Those looking at the main part of the page won't want to have their time stolen by reading about CAS that don't do what they want - and in all likelihood, viewers of this page want to plot! - Samsara contrib talk 02:30, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- I don't understand why you don't want the link in there. - Samsara contrib talk 02:44, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, okay, I see now. Thanks for adding those links! :) - Samsara contrib talk 02:59, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- The page I referred to re. vector graphics is the one we are disccusing: List of graphing software#Vector graphics. The compromise I proposed mirrored that style.
- Note that in neither hammer nor in nail is the other in the See also section. Since these are so intimately related, they are linked in the main text. I think it is appropriate for those articles and I think it might be appropriate for this one. --Karnesky 03:08, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Link farm
This page has turned into a link farm. Seven gaeinc.com links is absurd. Two links to the same psimionescu/Fxy page is a bit excessive. This mess needs to be cleaned up. The List of statistical packages page is a good example of what this page should strive to look like. (Requestion 18:40, 17 June 2006 (UTC))
- All the red links in the Plotting section was getting absurd. It has been half a year and no one created wiki pages for them so I removed them. This page is now 100% external link free. (Requestion 00:03, 12 February 2007 (UTC))

- What criteria did you user for keeping links? WinBUGS, SigmaStat, and Scientific Notebook are still up. I'd argue that SigmaPlot and Kaleidagraph are at least as notable. This is not to say those should be added back (though I might be arguing to remove the last few redlinks too). --Karnesky 01:13, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

- My focus was just on the Plotting programs section. The red / external link pairs had grown out of control such that the Plotting section was practically worthless. I thought about deleting the red links in the other sections but I decided to limit my clean up to just the Plotting section. I agree that the other red links should probably be deleted sometime in the future. (Requestion 02:53, 12 February 2007 (UTC))
