[edit] This isn't needed

Is there any reason why this list can't just be served by a category? I bring this up quickly before too much work is put into this likely doomed list. --SeizureDog 16:52, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

It is part of List of films based on comics which itself is a part of Lists of film source material. Whether these types of lists are required is a broader issue I'd recommend you take up on here. While such lists are deemed useful to have then I don't see a problem with this one. (Emperor 17:02, 18 February 2007 (UTC))
And there is a category that is used for these films: Category:Films based on comics. (Emperor 17:06, 18 February 2007 (UTC))
It might also be worth checking the history of these sections (partly here and the history is here). Originally there was "List of films based on comic books" which had was then rearranged to make an American section and an International one (largely a mix of French language and manga). At some point this was moved to "List of films based on American comic books" and all the international sections were dumped. What we've been working on since is sortingout the naming mess and restoring the international entries that were just discarded. So List of films based on comics and related entries (and a couple of others we are bringing into line) have been around, in one form or another, for three years. So this hasn't just appeared out of the blue, itis the final part of putting the internationalisation back into this area, which were arbitarily removed at the end of last year for no good reason and with no consensus. Hope that explains the history of all of this. We have been working on this steadily for quite a few months now to resolve this issue. (Emperor 17:25, 18 February 2007 (UTC))
I agree with SeizureDog, this article would probably not survive an Afd. Recently several editors including myself have been Afding lists that replicate categories. --Squilibob 07:53, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
There are an awful lot of these can you direct me to the guideline that suggests these should be deleted? (Emperor 14:02, 3 March 2007 (UTC))
I'd suggest this would do fine at an afd. It's not replicating a category, but serving as a subsidiary of a larger article, and we allow overlap between lists and categories. I'm not convinced people should be listing lists for afd on the basis they believe they will make better categories. Perhaps I'll have to keep a closer eye on afd. Given that we recently had a spate of categories deleted because they would be better as lists, maybe it would be wise if people could all keep on the same page.
