[edit] Best Selling Franchise?

Does anybody have any information about which fighting game franchise sold the most copies in Japan, in all of Asia, in the United States, in all of North America, and in Europe? A fellow fighting games enthusiast thinks the KOF and SF franchises each outsold the MK franchise because of what he thinks is their immense popularity in Asia and the relative lack of exposure of MK in Asia.
