[edit] Poker + Backgammon

Poker players like Gus Hansen are also claimed to be world class backgammon players. Anyone who knows which backgammon titles Gus has won? And Erik Seidel? In what backgammon events did he show a strong performance?

The reverse question applies to Paul Magriel: can we consider this world-class backgammon player to be a world-class poker player as well? Which of his poker victories would justify such a claim? JocK 17:32, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

I dont know which events he has won, but every two years the best backgammon players vote on who they think are the best players in the world. The 32 who gets the most votes comes on the list that is called "giants of backgammon" http://www.flintbg.com/giants.html Gus have been at the list since 1997 but have never been higher than number 22. According to the Dan Harrington page, he is world class at Backgammon and Poker(obviously) as well as winning a chess tournament. Winning 1 WSOP, getting to two consecutive final tables, AND writing the definitive book on tournament strategy is as good a poker resume as you will find.

Dan Harrington being a world-clash poker player can not be disputed. But what are his major achievements in backgammon? JocK 18:03, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Several articles describe him as a "championship" backgammon player. I don't know what championship they are referring to, but I'll do some research.

[edit] Bridge + Backgammon

Terence Reese was world champion bridge in 1955, and is known to have focussed on backgammon in his later life. Did he achieve world class performance in this game? JocK 16:02, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Backgammon + Chess

Tunç Hamarat could be the first entry in the column chess. Being world champion correspondence chess will do as far as chess is concerned. But what about his backgammon achievements? The article on Tunç Hamarat mentions that He won several titles in international backgammon tournaments. Anyone who knows which titles he won? -- JocK 18:50, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Twice world champion backgammon Bill Robertie is often mentioned to be US speed chess champion. Anyone who can tell me what year that was and whether this would classify Robertie as a world class chess player? -- JocK 09:01, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gin Rummy and Poker

If gin rummy is considered a game of skill, then Stu Ungar should absolutely be on this list, as he's considered among the greatest of all-time in both pursuits. I don't know if there are (or have ever been) any "well-known" rummy tournaments, but if there were, I'm sure Ungar won them- not to mention his three WSOP Main Event titles. -- Kicking222 01:58, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
