I'm guessing, because abbreviated titles (appearing as they do after names) and abbreviated units of measure (appearing as they do after numerals) are large and easily separable categories. Once they are separated, the list of miscellaneous abbreviations becomes much less unwieldy to consult. Wareh 03:18, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
