[edit] Why have this list?

There are literally millions, tens of millions of people out there who could qualify to be a veteran of World War II. Literally tens of millions. By what determination is someone considered worthy of being on such a list? Wouldn't all who are left off have a case for complaint? Seems like rather a pointless list to me. 155.143.221.252 09:29, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

According to the criteria that become visible if you edit the list, the list is supposed to be reserved for people who already have Wikipedia articles. That's what prevents there from being tens of millions of entries. So, the list could be called, "List of notable WWII veterans", or more aptly, "List of WWII veterans who have articles on Wikipedia". However, the catagories could also be used to generate such a list, which makes me also question why we have this list. Anyone else care to pipe as to why we have this list that appears to be duplicative of the categories?--Kubigula (talk) 04:33, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

It's absurd, I deleted it. That's disgusting that someone would even think of creating a list only for the famous veterans of World War 2. Soldiers whose names you do not know have sacrificed their lives, and you idiots create an article for famous veterans. --Thiswaswrong (talk)

I reverted your blanking of the article; Wikipedia works by agreement and consensus. That being said, I somewhat agree with your point, though not the way you say it. I am sure that whoever made this list was not trying to diminish the sacrifice of other veterans. Also, it is definitely OK to criticize articles, but it's not OK to attack contributors. Calling people idiots does not help your argument.
I'm going to mull it a bit more, but I am leaning towards nominating this article for deletion.--Kubigula (talk) 23:28, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, please try and get rid of this. Thiswaswrong 02:30, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
