[edit] Fakes and Other Strange Features Here

Why are so many of these plates fakes or otherwise strange examples? The Utah plate uses an Ontario number and dies (shapes of letters), the Washington, D.C. issue uses Nova Scotia dies and numbering format, the Georgia plate uses some kind of dies I've never seen before, among many other problems with these plates. What's the deal?

  • I have resolved this issue by adding a disclaimer sentence. Let me know if this addresses your concerns. --Mr. Brown 22:06, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
  • DC Plate shows "Taxation Without Representation". I don't think this (license plate speaking) is correct. --RedBeard mjs 16:46 PDT 14 August 2006.
    • Actually, it is. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 23:49, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
      • I stand corrected. Though it is a special plate with an extra charge associated (DC DMV page: http://dmv.dc.gov/serv/plates/tax.shtm) --RedBeard mjs 18:22 MDT 22 August 2006.
        • Actually that is the standard plate, there is no extra charge for it. The $10 charge is if you currently have an old plate and want to get the "Taxation Without Representation" plate. - Ektar 22:53, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
The DC plate actually is fake - the dies (shape of letters) are from a Canadian company, and the numbering format is incorrect. Qqqqqq 03:10, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I really don't understand why users can't just get these images from the state's respective DMV...they're all legal to place. RideABicycle | Talk | 22:25, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vermont?

You think there would be a way to incorporate this license plate onto the website? http://www.worldlicenceplates.com/usa/US_VTXX.html This site also has all the other license plates that are missing.

I'm not sure. That site, while it does contain a lot of good information, does not seem to have the most current designs for all of the plates. The most recent iteration of the Maryland plate, for example, is not listed on that site( http://www.worldlicenceplates.com/usa/US_MDXX.html ) This plate is basically the same as previous plates with the exception of the state website(www.maryland.gov) being placed in the white area towards the bottom of the plate. This design change was implemented sometime in early 2005.

[edit] Territories?

Should we include territory plates, like the one presented here? --LV (Dark Mark) 20:51, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

No, the title of the page is List of U.S. state license plates. RideABicycle | Talk | 22:26, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

I think we should.

[edit] Title / Other U.S. Plates

I know this is part a series of U.S.-related lists, but I think we should either attempt to add US government, Native American, VI, AS, Puerto Rico, ... plates to it. It would be more interesting, and it would potentially need to be renamed "List of U.S. license plates" (?). Basically, I think it would be smart and useful to have one article with any and all U.S.-related plates in it, even if it is divided into sections (states, federal, territorial, Nat. Amer., ...). Just to note, D.C. is already on this list. //MrD9 23:35, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Actually, upon further inspection, this method would also work: statse at top, and then categories for the rest of them, as used on Flags of the United States states. //MrD9 23:37, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
It would also be interesting, and encyclopedic, to see historical plates --Astrokey44 12:05, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
