Talk:List of The Sopranos writers and directors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think it's somewhat inaccurate to refer to the writers as "main writers," "frequent writers," and "less frequent writers."

In episodic television, most writers are hired on "staff." Most of the credited Sopranos writers have been on staff, hired on a season-to-season basis. Many of these writers receive some kind of "producer" credit, too -- co-executive producer, supervising producer, etc.

Most all staff writers work on all episodes in some capacity. Some staff writers are assigned to work only on specific characters. The Writers Guild of America has complex rules for who can get a writing credit on any particular episode -- an original writer often can be credited more than a rewriting writer. So someone can be on staff for several years, write on every episode but still have very few episode credits.

  • I changed frequent and in-frequent writers to just regular writers seeing as how you explained it. Sfufan2005 00:03, August 20, 2005 (UTC)
