[edit] ISBN
Just to put to words what I've been doing on this page: if the book doesn't have an article on WP yet, then link in the ISBN. FWIW to anyone that might care... Cburnett 07:20, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Days with no episode
Is it really necessary to include on the list days with no guest? If so, we should establish some consistency. Should we mark each and every day, and if so, which days? Just Monday through Thursday? Even during long stretches with no show? Should we always mark a reason? This is just a matter of convention, but it should be decided and marked, perhaps as a comment in the sandbox. If we're going to mark days with no guests, we should also consider marking days with no information, or at least ranges of days with no information. Ario 18:59, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
- Long awaited reply, but yes. If days are marked where they weren't on air then we can readily determine which years are complete. Cburnett 00:04, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Articles for Deletion debate
This article survived an Articles for Deletion debate. The discussion can be found here. -Splash 22:32, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- I'm moving it to TV, movie, etc as "Incomplete lists" is overcrowded. I have no opinion otherwise, but thought I should warn before doing it.
[edit] Lewis Black
I'm wondering it makes sense to have the Lewis Black indicator (†) when there's no equivalent for any of the other cast members. Why are his appearances more worth noting than anyone else's? Jason One 00:15, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
- Lewis Black is a contributor and not a correspondent. I guess the argument could be made that his appearances are more like recurring guest spots than a segment done by another cast member. Nonethless, I agree that his appearances aren't more noteworthy than anyone else's. Frozenpork 2:26, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

- Since I started the list, I might as well throw my thoughts on this. Ideally this list would show the daily guest as well as all the correspondents/guests/commentators/whatever-you-want-to-call-them. But that's a bit too much information to show concisely (unless you want to define a different symbol for each person) so I went with the most infrequent (and in my opinion) the most noteworthy (by virtue of being infrequent and not a "correspondent") segment: Back in Black.
-
- I wouldn't be opposed to putting them in a list but I don't see the "problem" with a † in there. Cburnett 18:10, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

- It just seems out of place here, on a list of guests. It's not (as you say) a list of correspondents/commentators/etc. You've made Black an exception, though, and the reasons seem arbitrary to me. Jason One 22:17, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

- I agree. I think we should either get rid of the Lewis Black markings (especially because it's difficult to know whether the absence of a mark means he didn't appear on that day, or just that no one's marked it) or do something more comprehensive, like a brief summary of each show, or the appearances of all contributors, or something more comprehensive yet still manageable. I favor this. Ario 23:38, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Completion Notice
I added a notice about at what point the list becomes complete. It reads Note: List is complete beyond this point. and I placed it before 2004, which according to history comments is the earliest complete point. I think this is useful especially for people like me who are using this page to acquire a Daily Show collection that is as complete as possible. This should be updated in the future as the list becomes more complete. Ario 06:34, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] More complete list
FYI, at the TV IV Wiki we have a list of nearly all guests from 1999 on, starting when Stewart took over. You're welcome to take from the list, or preferably help maintain and improve that site as the info is probably more appropriate there. - Indecision 10:07, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Looks like a copy of the already linked shuntv.net list. feydey 02:52, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- anybody wanna make a copy of a copy? ;) --70.231.168.235 18:20, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
I found an academic paper that lists every guest from season three on by episode number, to anyone who wants to go through and fill in missing guests. The list starts on page 138. [1]
[edit] Missing promotion information
I went through and added some promotion info based on some minimal research. It's not too hard to take a look at movie release dates on imdb or book release dates on Amazon to figure out the likely item.
I took a quick stab at 2003 and got 7 or 8 rather quickly. Any help would be appreciated. --waffle iron 00:37, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
I've added quite a few pieces of promotion information for 2006. Where there wasn't a specific product being plugged I've gone back and reviewed the show to see what was promoted. In some cases I've found it was the public profile or the opinions of the guest and by proxy the organizations for which they work that was essentially being promoted. In these cases I've included a quotation from their introduction on the show, where possible, or a summary of their topics instead, with links. I think this fits into the heading of 'promotion' and has value because it provides interesting information about the episodes. Al001 20:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Contributors
I added a page listing the appearance of contributors on the show. I only have Lewis Black, Demetri Martin and John Hodgman listed thus far. The information on Hodgman and Martin is complete as far as I know it. All I have on Black was taken from this list, so I've taken the liberty of removing him from this list since his appearances are listed elsewhere. 6 March 2006
[edit] Breaking up article
This article is getting quite big. I propose that it be broken up into:
- List of The Daily Show guests (1996)
- List of The Daily Show guests (1997)
- List of The Daily Show guests (1998)
- List of The Daily Show guests (1999)
- List of The Daily Show guests (2000)
- List of The Daily Show guests (2001)
- List of The Daily Show guests (2002)
- List of The Daily Show guests (2003)
- List of The Daily Show guests (2004)
- List of The Daily Show guests (2005)
- List of The Daily Show guests (2006)
- List of The Daily Show guests (2007)
Any objections? Cburnett 01:21, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Done. Cburnett 05:43, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
-
- On that note, you can add Category:The Daily Show guests to guests who are on the show. Cburnett 05:49, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Articles for Deletion debate - Take 2
Someone needs to explain this to me: How does a vote of 18 (keep) to 7 (delete) equal "no consensus"? I believe the consensus would be to keep. Or does it just keep going up to AfD until the deletes finally win and the article is trashed? ♫ Bitch and Complain Sooner ♫ 21:40, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- AfDs aren't supposed to be a vote. Supposedely the best argument wins, although a lot of admins treat them like votes. I guess this admin thought that the arguments were roughly equal. - Peregrine Fisher 21:49, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
