Talk:List of New South Wales railway station codes

What are these codes used for? It might be worthwhile mentioning their purpose, I don't recall seeing codes like these written on CityRail timtables (though I don't look at timetables very often)--Mako 06:35, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- I picked up a timetable today, and saw that these codes are used in the "proceeds to" row on the timetables for trains that travel on more than one line. There is an explanation of them (along with some other codes such as F: Friday only service or i: departs from Intercity platforms) in the timetable. I'm still a bit dubious over whether this information should be on Wikipedia or not. After all, the public documents that use them clearly explain them, and many of them probably aren't used in any public documents (as trains only terminate at certain stations). Their existence on internal Cityrail documents isn't really grounds for their inclusion, as that wouldn't allow them to be verified. Are there any public documents that would list all of these codes? --Mako 01:38, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- It identifies each station - each station page has this in its table, so it's appropriate that there's a listing for all of them. It's just meant to be a subset of the List of Sydney railway stations page. However, there's more codes than pages at the moment. How about we just leave them? There's no harm in them being here. [edit] Rural codes
Some of the codes are clearly nothing to do with Cityrail or Sydney railways... they are old state-rail railway station codes, not Sydney railway station codes (eg: Ariah Park is in the Riverina. Nothing to do with Sydney railway stations).
This page should be moved, or the inclusion criteria should reflect the article name. Garrie 11:24, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
