[edit] Sorting Elves by notability

Whoever isn't notable enough just stays in the list while whoever is gets his or her own article, right?

I'd say the Elves who don't have their own articles now, but aren't notable enough to warrant their own articles anyway are at least:

• Lindir (guy in Rivendell w/ one line)
• Rúmil (not the other one) and Orophin of Lórien; both covered in Haldir of Lórien)
• Gelmir and Arminas (recurring pair in Tuor and Túrin stories)
• all Elf leaders in The Fall of Gondolin except Ecthelion, Glorfindel and Maeglin (and Turgon)
• Erestor (impt. person in Rivendell but only advises)
• Nellas (covered in Saeros)
• the Elven patriarchs and matriarchs (covered in Awakening of the Elves)
• Egalmoth
• Denethor (First Age)
• Amdír
• Oropher
• Olwë
• Enerdhil (covered in Elfstone)
• Elmo (Middle-earth), Galadhon, Galathil, Nimloth (not the tree)
• Galdor of the Havens (? - little more than a name in LOTR, but article contains interesting info from HoMe)
• Daeron

I'd say Elves who deserve their own articles are:

• Gwindor and Voronwë (Túrin and Tuor's "sidekicks")
• Thingol, Lúthien, Beleg, Mablung, Saeros(?)
• Círdan
• Ecthelion and Glorfindel
• Haldir of Lórien,
• Thranduil and Legolas
• Finwë, and most if not many of the individuals connected to him biologically and by marriage (to him or his relatives) like Celeborn (but who to leave out and relegate to the list? the Daughters of Finwë?)

I like the way you've organised things here, and (without looking in detail) agree in general with your assessment of who needs their own articles (generally go with how much Tolkien wrote about them). I hate those "List of minor X" things, so please don't create that list! :-) Carcharoth 12:44, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

A matter of deserving goes only for real-world articles I'm afraid. To quote WP:FICT:

Major characters (and places, concepts, etc.) in a work of fiction should be covered within the article on that work of fiction. If an encyclopedic treatment of such a character causes the article on the work itself to become long, then that character can be given a separate article.
Minor characters (and places, concepts, etc.) in a work of fiction should be merged with short descriptions into a "List of characters." This list should reside in the article relating to the work itself, unless either becomes long, in which case a separate article for the list is good practice. The list(s) should contain all characters, races, places, etc. from the work of fiction, with links to those that have their own articles.

This means major characters and minor characters should be kept in a list (with major characters being briefly described in the article on that work of fiction), and only give characters whose sections exceed standard length (within going into fancruft) should be given his/her own article, regardless of notability. —Mirlen 04:14, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

How does Wikipedia define "standard length"? Well, anyway Gwindor, Voronwë, Mablung, Saeros and Ecthelion (whose article is probably as out-of-universe as you can get) may just get the list then. Haldir wouldn't even have his own article if it were not for the fact that Jackson killed him. Beleg is often involved when Mablung is, but he does much more than Mablung so he should get one of his own. How about all the nobles? And if we clean up the Elves everyone and everything follows as well. How about combining lembas, miruvor, Ent-draught and cram into Middle-earth food and drink (making the category of the same name redundant), also including general information about the topics (ex. Rohirrim drank mead?) Uthanc 07:40, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
