[edit] Why?

Whose terrible idea was it to get rid of all the articles and compress information on 14 different dorms with completely different histories, traditions, and styles into 1 puny article? I can understand creating a page listing all of the dorms, but why the @*$# would you erase all the old articles and redirect them to this one? If I'm a prospective student and I want to learn more about my dorm, I want to read all about the signature events and history, I don't want some lame compressed article that tells me nothing but how many people fit in it and which famous alumni lived in it. That tells me nothing about what it's going to be like for me. I'm going to go ahead and revert all the old articles back to their original state without the redirects. Well I fixed as many as possible but it appears Carroll, Knott, and Siegfried have been deleted entirely. Way to go Brian, I hope you're happy that a lot of people's work in creating those articles and a lot of information has been lost and has to be redone. Seriously, bad idea with the merging. Bad idea. Sillywebby 16:52, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Wikipedia is not Notre Dame's website, thus it should not be required to have articles on the dorms. When I was a prospective student and I wanted to learn more about my dorm I looked on Notre Dame's website. Most colleges don't have their dorm articles, so why should Notre Dame be special. Many, if not all, of the dorm pages should be merged here and the female dorm listing. Phydend 21:38, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
    • If you look at my talk page, Sillywebby is now in agreement that these dorms don't all need articles; they think that the "List" articles should contain more information than they currently do. I suggested adding links to the official and unofficial websites. I can't see keeping much of the dorm histories, the "signature party" of each dorm, the mascot, the dorm color, etc... I think people can get that from the dorm websites if they care. And some of the dorm histories are full of "legends" about dorm mascots and traditions that would probably be very difficult to verify properly. --Brianyoumans 21:47, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
      • Ok I see it now. I started a section on the female dorms page about the discussion but I guess it'll be unneeded. Is someone going to revert all the articles back to redirects? Phydend 22:10, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
        • Sillywebby wanted the articles kept in place until information had gotten moved to the "List" articles (perhaps they didn't understand about the use of histories, or perhaps they just wanted to have the information available at all times). I think it would be easier for now to just revert everything back and then add extra info to the List pages, taking it from the original articles in the article histories (or directly from the dorm websites, which would be better.) If you also think that is the best way, maybe you can do the revert? Sillywebby was pretty upset with me for merging the articles, but if someone else reverts, perhaps they won't feel like I am on a personal vendetta. Otherwise, I guess we wait until we get agreement from Sillywebby that the articles can be redirected. --Brianyoumans 23:23, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
          • Alright, I'll revert them and put in the summary about the info being in the articles' histories. Phydend 01:01, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

This is absurd. While it's true that Wikipedia isn't ND's website, using that same logic we ought to get rid of every Oxford and Cambridge college description! I dare the editor of this to attempt that!—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 140.180.174.228 (talk • contribs).
