A few years ago, I read a wonderful novel about Kazakhstan by Chingis Aitmatov. Looking for him online, though, it says he was Kirghiz. He is certainly worth an article. Was he Kazakh or Kirghiz. The novel is definitely about Kazakhstan. Danny 02:06 Feb 1, 2003 (UTC)

I'm not so familiar with Chingis Aitmatov, but depending on when he lived he might have been Kazakh. I say depending on when he lived because until the 1920s Kazakhs were referred to as "Kirghiz" (to distinguish them from Cossacks), and Kyrgyz were referred to as "Kara-Kirghiz".

Also, I don't work for the Kazakhstani government but I removed Borat, principally because he is a fictional character. It's like including Huckleberry Finn on a list of famous Americans. Since the whole joke is that Borat isn't real, it will just blur the issue in people's minds if they see him on the list of Kazakh historical figures. Konchevnik81

[edit] Borat

Borat is fictional, and cannot be included in a list of historical figures. Any edits that add Borat to this list will be reverted. PMC 22:06, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Korki Butchek

Korki Butchek doesn't exist. He's the famous pop star mentioned by Borat.

Thank you! Let's keep this list on focus. Konchevnik81 11:20, 4 November 2006
