Please keep in mind WP:VERIFY when adding names to the list: Only people with Wikipedia articles should be listed here, and only those who are mentioned to belong to the Kayastha caste on their own article. Since his alleged Kayastha-hood is not mentioned on Sen's article, Vr is right in removing the addition until evidence is cited. Anonymous editor, please be aware of WP:CITE, and try to be polite and argue your case here on the talkpage. If you persist, I will semi-protect the article and/or block you from editing. thanks, dab () 08:55, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WP:V

This list is completely unsourced. More often than not, the respective biography article in Wikipedia doesn't support inclusion in this list, let alone give a reference.

Are there any talkers for a massive referencing effort or should the list just be deleted?

[edit] Sen

To Vr: In Bengal, Sens can be both Vaidyas (not Vaid), which means doctors; or Kayasthas. The word Vaidyas is also spelled as Baidyas in Bengali. Attaching an internet link http://www.ancestry.com/learn/facts/fact.aspx?&fid=10&ln=sen&fn=&yr=1920 Ref: Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-508137-4 Further more, if you read the main article on Kayastha it says that "Some other sub-castes e.g. Khare, Vaidya have also come into picture but they all are derived from the original twelve." So please don't delete Sen from the list of kayasthas.

[edit] List

If you look at the main artcle on Kayasthas you will find the differenr surnames used byKayasthas in different parts of India. It is therefore misleading to say that the artcle is unsourced-after all this list is a part of the main article.(Vr 11:29, 18 August 2006 (UTC))

By thw ay I looked at www.kayastha.org the link is provided in the main article on Kayasthas. After reading that you will not be in a position to say the JC Bose was not a Kayastha.(Vr 11:42, 18 August 2006 (UTC))
http://www.kayastha.org isn't a reliable source for purposes of WP:V and WP:RS. Citing a published (printed) biography would be best. --Pjacobi 15:29, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

I would advise you to look at the following link:

Thanks a lot for the reference. --Pjacobi 19:19, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Priyanka Chopra

Alok kumar 17:48, 21 September 2006 (UTC) Priyanka Chopra's mother is a Kayastha. Therefore, Priyanka's name was included in the list. But, it was deleted by Vr,stating that her mother is a Malyali. Priyanka's name has been removed twice. I do not know the basis of this grossly incorrect and misleading information. I intend to include her name again. Relevent link is [[1]] Akhouri/Akhauri is surname of Kayastha. If I am wrong, please enligten me how is she from Kerela. Thanks

Granny brought up Priyanka BAREILLY, Dec 1 (UNI) — Mrs Madhu Jyotsana Akhauri, maternal grandmother of Priyanka Chopra, finds it hard to believe the little girl who was playing on her lap the other day has become a beauty queen winning the Miss World title.

“I watched the mega event the whole night and felt on top of the world when Mimi was adjudged the Winner”, she said. Priyanka was crowned Miss World at a glittering function in London last night.

This small town in Rohelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh has woken up to the fact that it is the home town of a beauty queen. Everywhere, people are discussing the mega event.

“I cannot believe the girl who was playing in our lap till yesterday has achieved this feat”, Mrs Akhauri said. Priyanka’s parents, Dr Ashok Chopra and Dr Madhu Chopra, had accompanied their daughter to London.

She credits Priyanka’s success to her determination and self confidence but also lauds the role of her daughter Dr Madhu Chopra behind the success of Priyanka.

The proud “nani” said it was she who practically brought up Priyanka as both her parents were employed.

Born on July 18, 1982, Priyanka, after completing her class X from St Maria Goretti School here, was pursuing her further studies at the Army School. At that time, she wanted to become a criminal psychologist, the grandmother recalls fondly.

However, winning the “May Queen” contest at Bareilly Club last year changed all that. She decided to take the plunge into the field of glamour and went on to take part in the Femina Miss India contest and the rest is history.

The 18-year-old idolises sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar and is greatly influenced by both Indian classical and western music. Priyanka relishes Indian, Mexican and Spanish food and is specially attached to her 11-year-old brother Siddhartha, she said.

Meanwhile, Bareilly, widely known for its “surma” and “jhumka”, is jubilant today over the success of Priyanka and the recognition it has brought to the town.

A banner reading “mimi, we are proud of you” hangs at a hotel on the station road here. Almost every one watched the whole contest on TV last night and felt proud over Priyanka’s success, the fifth Indian to be crowned the Miss World.

Another city hotel has decided to set up a fan cub of Priyanka while some local businessmen are planning to give the world’s longest greeting card to Priyanka on her return to get the town listed in the Guiness Book of World Records."

Hi Alok

Thanks for the information.I had based her mother's pedigree on the Star Nesws programme broadcast on her birthday. But even if she is an Akhouri which I know is a Kayastha surname she does not qualify here as caste is determined by father_ I would be a Punjabi Khattri otherwise!!!By teh way Please work up an article on Shivpujan Sahay.Regards(Vr 06:02, 22 September 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Correction........Raja Todar Mal was a KHATRI

Raja Todar Mal was a Punjabi Khatri, not a Kayastha
