I've just deleted a number of additions that I strongly doubt are Jewish. There is nothing I can find online, even at pretty comprehensive sites such as jewhoo.com. If anyone can cite any (credible) source for these then feel free to readd them:

PS Some of these are listed on List of Jews. Unfortunately that list is badly maintained (it's big and gets too much traffic) and is riddled with errors. Juko 14:09, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Having known Pleasant Gehman and Greg Hetson, I can definately confirm they are Jewish. Keith Morris, whom I also have known, is half-Jewish. One other note: I am very aware that Elastica was not an American band, but bassist Abby Travis is American and Jewish. That is why she is here and not on the List of British Jews along with Justine Frischmann. Prairie Dog, 23:08, 8 May 2005

Does anyone have any reliable evidence that Bob Carter (the father of Nick, Aaron and Angel) is Jewish? I could fine one reference online ([1]) but it's on a gossip site which are notoriously error-prone. The lack of confirmation on mainstream general or Jewish sites seems fairly damning to me - considering how prominent the Backstreet Boys have been. Juko 14:33, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The IMDB (under Aaron Carter's) entry also says that his father is Jewish.

TO EVERYONE WORKING ON THIS PAGE PLEASE REALIZE THAT THE WHOLESALE LOOTING BY DAVE FRIDMAN AND OTHERS OF JEWHOO AND JINFO.ORG IS DESTRUCTIVE TO THOSE SITES. TO TAKE PART OF THE INFORMATION WOULD BE REASONABLE--BUT TO LIFT NAME AFTER NAME, MANY OBTAINED AFTER HARD RESEARCH, TO BE PUT ON A FREE ENCYCLOPEDIA WITH SUBSEQUENT DISTRIBUTION TO PROFIT MAKING MIRROR SITES IS DESTRUCTIVE. JEWHOO IS SUSPENDED AND JINFO WILL NOT ADD ANY NEW CATEGORIES. IF YOU WANT THESE SITES TO CONTINUE FOR YOUR EDIFICATION AND TO TAKE AN OCCASSIONAL NAME--THAT IS UP TO YOU.

PLEASE REALIZE THAT DAVE FRIDMAN--AKA JUKO--HAS EVEN GONE TO THE POINT OF WRITING LETTER AFTER LETTER TO THE EDITORS OF THESE SITES PRESSING THEM FOR SOURCES WITHOUT IDENTIFYING WHO HE IS AND WHAT HIS INTENT IS. A LARGE PART OF THE DRAW OF THESE SITES IS THERE--I DIDNT KNOW HE WAS JEWISH FACTOR. YOU ARE DESTROYING THAT. YOU HAVE A MORAL RESPONSIBILITY NOT TO DESTROY TWO GREAT RESOURCES FOR THE SAKE OF THIS CONDUIT TO SOMEBODY WHO SIMPLY MAKES MONEY WITH NO WORK---LIKE THE MIRROR SITES. THINK ABOUT IT.

THERE ARE TONS OF JEWISH WRITERS, FOR EXAMPLE, THAT ARE NOT LISTED ON WIKIPEDIA OR THE SITES ABOVE. BUT THAT WOULD APPARENTLY TAKE SOME WORK TO FIND. RATHER, THE PATTERN APPEARS TO BE IN THE AREA OF POPULAR CULTURE AND THE SCIENCES TO SIMPLY SIT BACK AND WAIT FOR JEWHOO AND JINFO TO DO THE WORK AND IMMEDIATELY APPROPRIATE THE VERFIED NAME.

[edit] Vengerov and Rostropovich??

Why is Maxim Vengerov (violinist) in this list of Jewish-AMERICAN musicians?? He's Russian, and does not even live in the United States! K. Lastochka

And why Mstislav Rostropovich? He's an American citizen now but I'm pretty sure he's not Jewish....who wrote this list?? K. Lastochka

Sorry, in my edit summary I cut and pasted a quote from http://redsea.blogspot.com/. I wasn't trying to be cute like the article. Thanks --Tom 22:03, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sources

I'm sourcing the list in accordance with Wikipedia's No Original Research and Verifiability policies. Basically, anyone described by a reliable source as "Jewish" or "Jewish-American" (i.e. as opposed to "of Jewish descent", "Jewish mother", etc.) is on the list. Here are the people I couldn't find anything for. If you have a reliable source that fits that please restore the names:

[edit] Misplaced comment

Someone stuck the following text on the main page, so I've moved it here: "How about Max Weinberg of "The Max Weinberg 7" of the Conan O'Brien show? Also, how about Paul Shafer of the "CBS Orchestra" of the David Letterman Show?" Bondegezou 20:03, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

His great-great-great-grandfather Isaac Nathan was jewish, but I don't find any sources for closer Jewish relatives. Maybe a little too far-fetched! - 62.134.232.40 12:01, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Speaking of too far "stretched." Beck's great-grandmother Jewish. Being interviewed by a Jewish magazine whos main aim is to get people to talk about their Jewish heritage is not a legitimate way to see if Beck actually would consider himself a Jew when filling out a census at home. Religiously, Beck was not raised in the Jewish religion, and ethnically, his great grandmother can be disregarded as much as the Scottish/English ancestors that gave his father his surname. 141.213.212.16 07:55, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
