[edit] chinese

If anyone knows chinese well enough, some phonetics for the mandarin curses could be a nice improvement. Rob W 17:05, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Looks good to me. I did a little more copy editing. Dmlandfair

I've done some cleanup and copyedit. I'll let someone else figure out if the cleanup tag should go yet. - Chairboy 23:19, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

I've been thinking whether this article should be expanded from just curses to Firefly colloquial language in general. Does anyone think that there's sufficient slang to justify an article? --Pentasyllabic 23:11, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

Maybe there is. Why not start a new article for Firefly colloquialisms and then after there's some other business on there, we can merge them? Dave 00:26, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

I think it'd be awesome to have a list of all the Chinese curses used throughout the series. I don't know Chinese else I'd do it myself. As for the Firefly colloquial language, that too would be great. --Snaxe920 01:38, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Never mind, I didn't see the external link. --Snaxe920 01:39, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Would it be a good idea to change "butt" in "Stuff all the planets in the universe up my butt!" or "All the planets in outer space are stuffed up my butt!" to "ass"? It just seems to be more curse like that way. Zifnabxar 18:55, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Only if the translated word actually is "ass". I think it should stay as is (though I do agree with you; "ass" is a much stronger swear than "butt"). EVula 23:08, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
I agree that Mandarin non-curses used in Firefly should also be described and exampled in an expanded article. Probably half of it is ordinary (but because said in Mandarin, cool) stuff. Mei mei = little sister is the only one I know offhand, but Kaylee & Mal have a short conversation in Mandarin early in Our Mrs. Reynolds which probably isn't cursing. mei-mei (sister), xie-xie (thank you), ching jing(spelling?) (come in)... there are a lot of stuff that isnt cussing...-Xornok 00:52, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New or re-adapted?

How does this apply to "rut" and "hump", which are both English words, being used to mean what they currently mean? All that's being changed here is prevalance, and presumed idiomaticness (i.e. profanity). Alai 22:35, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Change page name and scope?

This page would likely be more useful entitled “List of Firefly slang and curse words” so usages like “shiny” or “’verse” can be included. Horovits 02:19, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
