[edit] Problems with this article

I'd like to argue that many of the beings listed are not "cosmic beings" in the sense that their powers and functions do not affect the whole universe; even most of the 'gods' of the DC universe would not fit the list. Only beings like The Source or the Endless should be included. (Thought I have not seen enough evidence of The Endless being truly as powerful or influential as they claim to be.)

Many of the characters listed have links to the wrong Wikipedia entries.

The listing for groups and organizations should have their own entries.

It's no use pointing a link to a Wikipedia entry with something that has the same name as the DC "cosmic being". E.g., clicking "Amethyst", you'll end up with the gemstone, clicking "Titans", you'll have an entry telling you what the titans are but not what the DC titans are - there is a huge difference. So, the links should either be taken out or all have their separate entries.

This page needs a major re-edit, the links need to be corrected and a lot of entries need to be trimmed. --Basique 21:01, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Should there be a separate list for groups of these entities (e.g., The Endless, the African Gods) or is it OK to have the group and its individual members within the same list? Also, for the red links in this list, would it help to specify what comic book series that entity appeared in? GentlemanGhost 22:11, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to go through and take out all of the ones that aren't Cosmic in scope, or that are duplicated. I'm not familiar with some of the names so I'll undoubtedly get some wrong. Feel free to reintroduce the ones that actually fit the parameters. CovenantD 15:04, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Uggg. Most of these can't be verified. I'm tempted to toss most of them and start over. At the very least we should require a reference to be included. I'd also suggest that we split up the Amalgam, Wildstorm and Elseworlds characters into their own sections. Mixing them is just too confusing. CovenantD 15:30, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Another question, by cosmic entity, do we mean a god (or god-like being) or merely a space traveller? This list seems to have both. GentlemanGhost 18:01, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, the info on the category page says "DC cosmic entities are characters with god, demi-god and cosmic power levels in DC comics." Does that answer your question? I'd also like to collaborate with you on this. What kind of parameters are you using? For example, I don't consider a single planetary diety to be "cosmic" in scope. Heh. Good question. I had just added the Zamarons back in, simply because they have the ability to leave this dimension. But perhaps that's not enough qualification to be god-like. As far as the air elementals go, they seem more like creatures than gods, so I'd say that they probably don't belong on the list. My working parameters are: member of pre-existing mythos (e.g., Zeus, Bast) = OK, member of the New Gods (e.g., Darkseid, Orion) = probably OK, space-travelling hero (e.g., G'nort, Superman) = not OK. I like this definition, from the article on cosmic beings, "In superhero comic books, cosmic beings are fictional characters possessing superpowers in a planetary, stellar, or even universal level, far beyond those of humans or superheroes, and usually serving some natural function in the fictional universes they exist in."
