Is there a point to this? Does it really matter to what religion an entertainer belongs? If so, why? Jim62sch 02:21, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Of course it can. Religion can effect behavior and choice of roles. It can also effect writing and directing for entertainers who do those. For an example would Mel Gibson have done the movie about Christ if he wasn't Traditionalist Catholic? Granted he may have done a movie about Jesus, atheists have, but he wouldn't have done it like that. Likewise would Della Reese have been as involved in Gospel Music or Touched by an Angel if she hadn't co-founded a Christian New Thought denomination? Or Kirk Cameron. Would he have agreed so readily to do fairly cheezy examples of Christian cinema if he wasn't Christian? Or Caviezel turning down a kissing or nude scene or whatever it was.--T. Anthony 12:48, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

What is the point of this? We already have List of entertainers in Christian media, and the whole List of Christians category. —Chantessy 01:36, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Umm I put some sources in the actual page. I didn't know they were to be limited to the talk page. The sources I had were often different ones.--T. Anthony 12:49, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

No worries.I'm glad you're here. There is no reason they can't also be on the actual page as well. I'll duplicate the info to this page later, because I want to make sure the evidence is readily available.I based this talk page somewhat on the evidence page LULU created on the other list. I thought it was better to combine the two, as switching back from talk to evidence could cause confusion. If it gets to long we might have to seperate the two.A source of contention on other pages has been lack of sources. That is the only reason why I stressed the need for sources on the main page.(I hope that is all right?)I was afraid someone not used to editing would just dump names without sources. But at the same time if someone has a name they are certain of, but lack a source I wanted a space where they could leave the names on the talk page without undermining the accuracy of the actual list.California12 03:22, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

His article says Beaumont was a minister. Heaton mentioned her conversion to Presbyterianism, a more active kind I took it, on her A&E Biography. I might find links later.--T. Anthony 12:53, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

I souced Heaton and Beaumont on the main page. I know sourcing is intended to be on the talk page, but I'm not used to that so it's hard for me to be consistent on that. For Dolores Hart here's articles from

Added some unsourced names someone else placed with no source.Hated to remove them as they are probably accurate and I have a feeling it was a very young editor. Will work on them later, but I don't have time now.California12 20:33, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Ok I'm putting the names back after looking up sources California12 21:05, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

You can add Vinnie Jones (Snatch; Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrells). If you do a search on Vinnie Jones and Christian you should find a few interviews where he claims that he is a Christian. Jorgekluney 18:41, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sources and Catholic page

I suggest the Catholics on this list be only on List of Catholic American entertainers, which can be a sub-page for this one, as it is linked to from here. Also, I suggest the sources be formatted in the same way as in, say, List of Dutch Americans. Furthermore, does anyone have a good source that Lucas Grabeel is Christian/Baptist? The IMDB and its clones are not trust worthy in these situations Mad Jack 06:59, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Jack, This page was started with the wish to show a broad overview of Christians in entertainment, both Protestant and Catholic. Also from various political viewpoints for example Charlton Heston and Martin Sheen.Or those one might not realize such as some of the pop performers. That is what is unique and interesting about this list.I would hope that could continue. There are already various narrow lists.Once you start paring off this group and that, then this list loses it's most interesting edge.Which is the many different types of people and wide range of viewpoints that make up the Christian community in show biz. Rather than the usual practice of including only those that one might specifically agree with. For instance some might be tempted to remove Mel Gibson right now out of anger for his faux pas. California12 08:10, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Why would we remove Mel Gibson? We have a source that he is Catholic :) (a fact repteated ad nauseum in the articles about him right now). But the thing is, every one of the people listed at List of Catholic American entertainers should, in theory, be listed here. Shouldn't they? Mad Jack 08:14, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

In respect to those listed on the Catholic page if you want to add them to this list I don't see why not.(as long as they are sourced :). My point is, there are a lot of people who want to keep lists of Christians limited to very narrow lists.By denomination, or politics or by behavior.(This is what I meant by the Gibson remark.Look at it this way, someone can look at a very broad list like this and get a look at a bigger picture. Then if the want to break it down into Catholic or whatever denomination that's fine also. Both lists are interesting reading.I don't see any worry in duplication of names. The thing that bugs me,is people not adding sources (unless it is mentioned in the subject's Wiki profile). The J Atkins listing for example, was totally a mistake.California12 08:49, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

I Haven't been able to find a source for Christina Ricci (NNDB is not reliable) Mad Jack 16:30, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Can't find a source for Kyle Searles but then I'm not sure who he is. Is this the same Jason David Frank? (Again not someone I am familiar with}If so his my space does list him as a Christian. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=66665404 California12 12:27, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't know if we can really use MySpaces as reliable sources, mostly because we have no way (or do we?) to confirm it's really his. However, in this case, it even says "Christian - Other", which I think means he is either Christian or that mysterious "Other", presuming it's even his MySpace.... so I don't know... Mad Jack 06:05, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of entertainers in Christian media

I created this after the older list of Christian entertainers, or whatever it was called, was deleted for not being strict enough. So I basically filled with actors and directors who are/became ministers or work in Christian films. As this is up I think it might now be redundant, but there are actually names on it that aren't here. That's part of what I want to ask about.

See that list includes members of New Thought denominations, Seventh-day Adventists and also Mormons. I don't know if putting people like that here would be acceptable or not. Still there might be names there that aren't here, but are also not of such groups. I'm not sure, judge for yourself.--T. Anthony 11:32, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

I've withdrawn the idea.--T. Anthony 21:43, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
