[edit] Hyphen in article title

Shall we move this page to List of China related topics to remove the hyphen? kt2 19:12, 17 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Isn't the current hyphenated title parallel with AIDS-related complex? If so, I'm pretty sure the hyphen needs to be there in formal writing. --Menchi 00:12, 18 Sep 2003 (UTC)

[edit] Translation

I am unsure of the proper way to spell the Chinese General Pan Ch'ao circa 78 ad. He was known for his campaign in the Timid basin region. I have his name in the Kingdom of Khotan entry. This is the area that will later be known as the "four garrisons" - Ktbenbrook 03:06, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Ban Chao (班超). --Menchi 03:27, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Ok corrected it to this name: it's blank so I'll go ahead and add an entry Ktbenbrook 06:15, 14 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I am not sure about the meanings of the following phrases:

  • China Alliance for Democracy(中國民主同盟?)
  • Ching Ming Festival(清明節?Qing Ming Festival?)
  • Goddess of Democracy(?)
  • Independent Federation of Chinese Students and Scholars(九三學社?)

anyone could help? --Gboy 02:00, 3 Oct 2003 (UTC)

  1. It's a typo, it should be Chinese Alliance for Democracy 中國民主團結聯合 (abbrev. 中國民聯)
  2. It's also a typo. It is Qingming Festival, sometimes translated "Festival of Pure Brightness"
  3. 民主女神, a symbol of the Tiananmen protests I believe
  4. It's 全美中國學生學者自治聯合會 (abbrev. 全美學自聯).

Oh i c, thank you. --Gboy 02:18, 3 Oct 2003 (UTC)
So many unfinished pages! Compare with List of Japan-related topics! --ILovEJPPitoC 02:14, 7 Oct 2003 (UTC)
The guys maintaining the Japan list may have decided to avoid including empty pages in the list. I have done most of the China list, and I have included many empty pages for several reasons: 1) partially listing which China-related topics are mentioned somewhere else in the 'pedia and do not have an article covering them yet (sort of a "wanted article" notice). 2) be able to spot them when they are written, with the "related changes" function" (sort of a "new articles warning" function in that case). Anyway, thanks for going through the list! Please feel free to update it as you feel appropriate. Keep in mind, though, that the "related changes" function is one of the most useful ones for this page - in my case at least - and that it is useful to have the actual title of the articles in the list (for instance, when Xiang river was moved to Xiang River, I changed it accordingly in the list). olivier 03:22, 7 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Re: Goddess of democracy. Yes, such a statue was built in 1989 and displayed on Tiananmen square. A copy was displayed at the Chinese University of Hong Kong for a while, as far as I know.
Note that, for all these "missing articles", you can click on "what links here?" to see where they are mentioned, and give you a hint at what they may mean. olivier 03:28, 7 Oct 2003 (UTC)
I'll agree that I will not be able to understand what the Chinese phrases mean given only in pinyin. More like to read them in Chinese. I'll try to add more topics, but you guys have to watch that topics in broken English ( I am not sure if you can understand what I write)! Besides, I don't think I know anything about the topics mentioned about -- they're all anti-CPC, which I can get no information about them in mainland! --ILovEJPPitoC 12:08, 7 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Even the Qingming Festival?? olivier 04:36, 8 Oct 2003 (UTC)
NO, I meant the Goddess of Democracy and Independent Federation of Chinese Students and Scholars. --ILovEJPPitoC 05:25, 8 Oct 2003 (UTC)

[edit] Add article

Can i add Homosexuality in China here? --FallingInLoveWithPitoc 09:06, 18 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Of course! --Jiang
Done, remove it if offensive. --FallingInLoveWithPitoc 09:54, 18 Nov 2003 (UTC)

[edit] Split

Any idea to split this long page into smaller and "digestable" articles? 大将军, 都督中外诸军事 (talk) 09:39, 6 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I do not see any perfect way of splitting it. The best one I can think of is to split it in the middle, alphabetically. Alternatively, we could create subpages, for instance remove the Hong Kong specific articles to the List of Hong Kong-related topics which is not maintained at the moment. olivier 10:43, Jan 6, 2004 (UTC)
Why not split this page alphabetically? like List of China-related topics/A, List of China-related topics/B...? I am working on List of United States-related topics, but found there are masses of articles! That's what's come to my mind when I thought I should split it... -- 快艇 (Talk) 19:18, Jan 6, 2004 (UTC)
The purpose of this list is also to monitor the changes in these articles. I would be in favor of splitting it into as few pages as possible to begin with. As it grows, we can divide it further. olivier 12:07, Jan 8, 2004 (UTC)
Yeah, good idea. --快艇 (Talk) 12:15, Jan 8, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Anita Mui

I believe her family name is "Mui"... Should be put under "A" or "M"? --快艇 (Talk) 04:10, Jan 9, 2004 (UTC)

M. I have almost never seen a listing of people by their given names. --Menchi (Talk)â 04:15, 9 Jan 2004 (UTC)
I think so. I've asked Jiang about that be4. And he told me it should be listed by familiy name anywhere anytime! ;) --快艇 (Talk) 04:18, Jan 9, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Duplicates

The other articles overlap with this one. I suggest we split this list up topically and incorporate those lists. It will take some work, but it will avoid reduncy and make tracking more useful. --Jiang 00:16, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)
