[edit] Dalai Lamas
Since the Dalai Lamas are incarnations of Avalokitesvara not The Buddha, isn't this incorrect? Or do you consider the bodhisattva to be the Buddha? --Friðrik Bragi Dýrfjörð 03:42, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks on that, I've corrected it.--T. Anthony 03:53, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Li Hongzhi
I removed Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong, because he never claimed to be a Buddha. The Chinese Communist Party controled media reported that Li Hongzhi claimed to the Buddha and changed his date of birth so it would be the same as that of the Buddha. Li Hongzhi published a Statement when Falun Gong was banned in China saying that. "(...)Some people spread rumors that I changed my date of birth, and this is true. During the Cultural Revolution, the government misprinted my date of birth. What I did was simply to change the misprinted date of birth to the correct one. As for the fact that Sakyamuni was also born on this day, what does that have to do with me? Many other people were also born on this day. In addition, I have never claimed that I am Sakyamuni.(...)"[[1]]
At a Falun Gong conference in 2005, in response to a Falun Gong practitioner's question, Li Hongzhi said "(...) Dafa disciples should call me "Master," or "Teacher," etc. It's up to you, you can address me however you like. But be sure not to address me as "Buddha"." [[2]]
- Agree it doesn't make sense to include Li Hongzhi based on hearsay about a claim that he denies.
[edit] List of claimants as a reincarnated Buddha
Hello - While Jiddu Krishnamurti did later renounce the claim made by the Theosophists Leadbeater and Blavatsky, that he was the Lord Maitreya, should he be mentioned in this list? - Mike Hebert, Baton Rouge, LA USA
Hi, how do I add someone onto this page. I would like to add Tathagata, Sam Han Lee.
He attained enlightenment at the age of 44 in Korea.
He calls himeself "Tathagata". He travels the world endlessly - to teach what he can see. He sells nothing and does not ask for money - he teaches as his duty. His main teachings are based on conscience, justice and love, he teaches about karma and cause and effect. He is the only person who has the third eye, a small lump which grew on his forehead, its also known as the eye of wisdom. He has many followers in South Korea and pockets of followers in many other countries.
His website is www.tathagata.co.uk
Whoever is in charge of this section please add him to this page.
[edit] Raël
Doesn't Raël deserve an asterisk for "a significant number of followers", given that "The International Raelian Movement currently has approximately 60,000 followers in 86 countries worldwide."?
