Lister Storm GTL

Lister Cars built the Lister Storm road car in 1993. The road was followed by the first iteration of Storm GT race car in 1995, which was little more than a road car with a roll cage. A much more successful campaign in 1996 saw a revised version of the car run at the front of the field in the BPR series and take the finish at Le Mans. For 1997, Lister built a revised, lighter version of the Storm with all-new bodywork called the Lister Storm GTL. The Storm GTL still retained the 7.0 litre Jaguar V-12 power plant. Backed by Adidas and the Newcastle United Football Club, the GTL was classified in the GT1 class- the fastest class of the mid '90's.
The new GTL was as quick as its peers in the GT1 class, but failed to finish at Le Mans in 1997. A revised GTL was entered for 1998, but was not allowed to take part due to problems with the revised vehicle not matching its road car homologation papers. The car did however emerge as a race winner in the Privilege Insurance British GT series.
For 1999, the car reached its ultimate incarnation, sporting new extended bodywork at the front and many other alterations. The car took the 1999 British GT Championship, although the title was marred by controversy over whether the car was running with legal aerodynamic alterations during some of the early rounds of the championship.
By the end of 1999, the GT1 class was dead on both the international and national stages, so Lister quietly dropped the GTL to resume development of the earlier Storm GT, this time for the GT2 class. In 2000 they won the FIA GT Championship with the car. In 2003 Lister switched focus to concentrate on racing and development of the Lister Storm LMP and LMP Hybrid.
