[edit] Deities

[edit] Annin character appears in the original Dragon Ball series

Annin
Annin

Annin is the Guardian of the Furnace of Eight Divinations at the border between Earth and the afterlife. In the English anime, she is given the alias of Tajaro in order to hide the Furnace Keeper's true identity. When Goku sought to put out the fire of the furnace, he is stopped by Annin. She tells Goku that if he puts out the fire, all the evil spirits will remain on Earth and total darkness will destroy the planet. It also takes roughly 200 years to reignite the furnace. After seeing that Goku had the Bashō Sen (Bansho Fan), she finds a way and helps Goku enter the furnace and fix the hole causing the fire to leak out. She doesn't appear in the manga.

[edit] Dende character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Dende
Dende

Dende (デンデ?) is a Namekian who takes the role of the Earth's god after Kami fuses with Piccolo. He is first introduced in the Freeza saga where Gohan and Kuririn save him from Freeza's forces. He gets his power unlocked by their elder, giving him the power to heal. He helps heal during the fight with Freeza until he is killed by him. After being revived, he lives on New Namek until Goku teleports there during the Cell saga to ask a Namekian to become the new god of Earth and revive the Dragon Balls. Dende accepts, and continues to act as the god throughout the rest of the series.

[edit] Enma Daiō character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Enma Daiō
Enma Daiō

(FUNimation's dub: King Yemma)

He is a giant red ogre who lives in Other World, and it is his job to decide whether dead people go to Heaven or Hell. In the English manga, his name is King Yemma. He is based on the Buddhist deity Yama. He is first seen when Son Goku is killed. He was until then the only person who has ever run all the way along Serpent Road, but grants Goku permission to attempt this. He is apparently skilled to some degree in fighting, as he claims he bested Raditz when the latter attempted to fight him while passing through his realm. According to Kami, North Kaiō is much stronger than he is.

[edit] Gozu and Mezu character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

(FUNimation dub: Goz and Mez)

Gozu ("Ox-Head") and Mezu ("Horse-Head") are a pair of oni (ogres) that appear only in anime filler who attempt to help Son Goku find his way back to Serpent Road after he falls down to Hell in the anime. However, in order for Goku to leave, he must "play" with them first. They squabble over which one of them will get the chance to play with the stranger first. After having rollicking games such as rock, paper, scissors, repeatedly launching Goku back to Serpent Road with a catapult, and a wrestling match, they eventually show Goku a way back but he ends up in Enma-daiō's desk drawer meaning he has to start all over again. These two characters are never described or given an appearance in the manga by Akira Toriyama, but their designs are fashioned off of two of Toriyama's Dragon Ball characters, Shen and Man-Wolf (in his human form).

[edit] Kami character appears in the original Dragon Ball seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Kami
Kami

Kami (?) is known in Japanese as Kami-sama, which is not a name, but a title meaning "God". Kami was the good half of the Namekian that came to be the God of Earth, with his evil half becoming the Piccolo Daimaō. In the anime he defeated the Garlic for the title, with Garlic's son Garlic Jr. forever holding a grudge. He then watched over the planet for centuries to ensure it was safe.

Seeing the spawn of his other half Piccolo threatening the planet, he goes to earth in secret and competes in the Tenka-ichi Budōkai by possessing the human Shen. After advancing to the semifinals he battles Piccolo, trying to trap him in a glass jar using the Mafūba technique. But since his human host is so weak, Piccolo is able to overcome it and trap Kami in a bottle himself. He then swallows the bottle for safe keeping before losing Kami in his match with Son Goku. During the Cell Saga, Kami agreed to forever fuse and rejoin Piccolo so they would be a match for the Androids.

[edit] Karin character appears in the original Dragon Ball seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Karin
Karin

(FUNimation dub: Korin)

Karin (カリン?) is a Senbyō ( immortal cat) who has lived at the top of Karin Tower for more than 800 years. The tower is located right underneath Kami's Lookout, which is a few hundred meters higher than Karin-to and can only be reached by Son Goku's nyoi-bō. Karin is a deity just below the rank of Kami, and plays a large role in Dragon Ball when he trains Goku during the Red Ribbon Army Saga of Dragon Ball. At later points in the series and in Dragon Ball Z, Karin lends his assistance periodically to Goku and the other characters by growing them senzu beans, which only grow in his tower.

[edit] Mr. Popo character appears in the original Dragon Ball seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Mr. Popo
Mr. Popo

Mr. Popo (ミスター・ポポ Misutā Popo?) is an immortal djinn who lives in Kami's Lookout and is bound there eternally as the gardener and caretaker. He has served every other Kami (God/Guardian) of the Earth since the beginning of the Earth. He was trained by Kami himself and trained Goku for 3 years in order to fight Piccolo Jr.

[edit] The Kaiō and Kaiōshin

The Kaiô (Kai) are upper-level gods of the fictional Dragon Ball universe. The name Kaiô is a conjunction of the word for kai for 'World' and ô for 'King'. There are four per galaxy, with one presiding over each of the four quadrants' galaxy and the last (the Dai Kaiô or Grand Kai) overseeing them all. The Kaiô are responsible for the lower-level gods, who rule over individual planets. The Kaiô reside in the heavens (Other World in English adaptations).

Above the Kaiô are the Kaiôshin (in English dubbed Supreme Kai), who look after the entire universe. Similar to the regular Kaiô; there is one for each quadrant of the universe and a Dai Kaiôshin to preside over them. Or at least that was the established order, until Majin Buu killed or absorbed most of the Kaiôshin, with only the East Kaiôshin surviving.

[edit] Kaiō

[edit] Dai Kaiō character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Dai Kaiō
Dai Kaiō

(FUNimation's dub: Grand Kai)

He is above the ruler of other Kaiō, including Son Goku's trainer North Kaiō. He's portrayed as an aged hipster, wearing jeans and a denim jacket and constantly listening to rock music on his boom box. His home is the Dai Kaiō's Planet. He's stronger than the other Kaiō, but although he never admits it, he is not in the same league as Goku. He is reputed to be the greatest fighter in the universe, but he has been out of training for centuries.

Even though he is the teacher of the greatest warriors in the multiverse, Dai Kaio (much like North Kaio) is more of a sweet and a kind grandfatherly figure than a traditional disciplinarian. Paying no heed to respectful-but-cold formality, he lovingly treats his social-inferiors as equals and dotes on them as if they were his own grandchildren. In the Japanese version, he affectionately addresses younger warriors with suffix of "-chan", a term of endearment usually reserved for young children. (e.g., Goku-chan, Paikuhan-chan, which means "My Dear Boy Goku/Paikuhan.")

Although he doesn't appear in the manga, a Dai Kaiō is mentioned. His characterization in the anime was suggested to the production staff by Akira Toriyama himself.[1]

[edit] East Kaiō character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

East Kaiō
East Kaiō

(FUNimation's dub: East Kai)

The only female Kaiō. This Kaiô is a woman with pale lime-green skin and orange-blonde hair at the After-Life Budoukai, though she had one participant from her quadrant that passed the preliminaries. Her quadrant is known for having fast fighters, like Globe. She rides around on a hover bike, and is always looking for a good challenger. She's also very hard on all her pupils. An anime-only character.

[edit] North Kaiō character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

North Kaio
North Kaio

(FUNimation dub: King Kai, North Kai)

North Kaio (北の界王 Kita no Kaiō?) is the Kaiô of the quadrant of the galaxy where the Dragon World resides. In the English manga, he is also known as Lord of the Worlds. Claiming himself to be very humorous; he will only teach his subordinates if they laugh at his non-comedic jokes (really bad puns in the original Japanese). He can only train those who can reach the end of Snakeway. He trained Goku, who succeeded in doing so and taught him very powerful techniques that have been essential to many of his battles: including the Genki Dama (Spirit Bomb in English dubs) and the Kaio Ken.

[edit] Bubbles character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series
Bubbles
Bubbles

North Kaiō's pet monkey Bubbles (バボルス) serves as Goku's first training exercise, which is to catch Bubbles. It seems easy, but the gravity on Kaio-sama's planet is 10x Earth's gravity and Bubbles is perfectly used to it. It takes Goku several days to catch Bubbles, but only a few seconds for Piccolo to catch him. He is killed when Cell self-destructs on Kaio-sama's planet. He was named after Michael Jackson's pet chimp Bubbles.

[edit] Gregory character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series
Gregory
Gregory

North Kaio's motor-mouth pupil, a little flying cricket named Gregory. He only appears in the anime and in a couple movies. He's very respectful of his master and always speaks highly of him, but he'll talk trash to anyone he doesn't believe is better than him. He was the main objective in North Kaio's test and the point of the test was to catch and hit Gregory on the head with a hammer. He is killed when Cell blows up on Kaio-sama's planet. Although Gregory did not appear in the manga by Akira Toriyama, he was one of the many filler characters designed in the Son Gokû Densetsu by Toriyama and his staff [1].

[edit] South Kaiō character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

South Kaiō
South Kaiō

(FUNimation's dub: South Kai)

The only other Kaiō to appear in the manga, South Kaiō is a rival of North Kaiō. He claims his pupil, Papoi, would mop the floor with Goku. South Kaiô also makes fun of North Kaiô for being dead. His quadrant has the reputation of being a peaceful area of space because all the fighters from this quadrant are comparatively weak.

[edit] West Kaiō character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

West Kaiō
West Kaiō

(FUNimation's dub: West Kai)

A tiny monocle-wearing Kaiō with purple skin who acts as North Kaiō's adversary during the Ano-Yo-Ichi Budōkai, usually mocking North-Kaio about being a "dead" Kai. His greatest student is Paikuhan, and he's always boasting about how much stronger Paikuhan is than any other Kaiō's pupils, particularly those of North Kaiō, despite Goku defeating Paikuhan in competition and far surpassing him later, to North Kaio's glee. In the anime, West Kaiō is the rival of North Kaiō. He doesn't appear in the original manga.

[edit] Kaiōshin

[edit] Dai Kaiōshin character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Dai Kaiōshin
Dai Kaiōshin

(FUNimation's dub: Grand Supreme Kai, Dai Kaiō)

God of all Kaiōshin, Dai Kaiōshin was a fat, kind being. He is absorbed by Kid Buu in the original fight with the Kaiōshin, and because Dai Kaiōshin was so good, Buu actually became weaker and slightly more susceptible to control. His losing power is due to Kid Buu being a creature of pure evil, and any good distorts his nature and nullifies that power. Dai Kaiōshin is never released by Majin Buu like some other absorptions. Being the highest deity mentioned in Dragon Ball, Dai Kaiōshin is the God of the Dragon Ball universe. When Rou Dai Kaiōshin is released from the Z Sword, he takes over this role instead.

[edit] East Kaioshin character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

East Kaioshin
East Kaioshin

(FUNimation dub: Supreme Kai, East Supreme Kai)

East Kaioshin (東の界王神 Higashi no Kaiōshin?) is the Supreme Ruler of the Eastern Quadrant of the Universe along with his best friends, and under his superior, Dai Kaioshin (Grand Supreme Kai). He is short, purple skinned with white hair, dressed in a posh Kaio outfit and always accompanied by his ever-loyal bodyguard and friend, Kibito. East Kaioshin barely survives Majin Buu's assault on the Kaioshin Kai to become the only surviving Kaioshin. Afterwards, he is typically called only Kaioshin, since there are no others to confuse him with. During the Buu saga, he becomes fused with Kibito to form Kibitoshin.

[edit] North Kaiōshin character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

North Kaiōshin
North Kaiōshin

(FUNimation's dub: North Supreme Kai)

North Kaiōshin is one of the rulers of the universe in the anime DBZ. He is old in appearance, looking similar to the familiar East Kaiōshin, but with a larger head, and a moustache.

North Kaiōshin was peacefully fishing one day on the Kaiōshin Kai, when Kid Buu attacked. All four Kaiōshin fought back against the Majin, but the only survivor was East Kaiōshin. North Kaiōshin was one of Buu's first victims.

[edit] South Kaiōshin character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

South Kaiōshin
South Kaiōshin

(FUNimation's dub: South Supreme Kai)

South Kaiōshin is a tall, muscular, red-haired Kaiōshin with the greatest power out of them all. He was able to fight evenly with Kid Buu when he attacked the Kaiōshin Kai, but was eventually absorbed, causing Majin Buu to transform into a taller and more muscular version of himself (known sometimes as Mega Buu, Super Buu or Buff Buu to fans). Majin Buu only assumes Mega Buu form twice. Once after absorbing South Kaioshin, and a second time for a brief moment when reverting to his true form of Kid Buu. He's remarkably similar in appearance to Android #16.

[edit] West Kaiōshin character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

West Kaiōshin
West Kaiōshin

(FUNimation's dub: West Supreme Kai)

West Kaiōshin is one of the rulers of the universe in the anime DBZ. She is the only female Kaiōshin, very much similar to the familiar East Kaiōshin only with female features and longer hair.

She was the second strongest of the Kaiōshin, able to fight with Kid Buu for a time, before being the first Kaiōshin to be killed.

[edit] Rou Dai Kaioshin character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Rou Dai Kaioshin
Rou Dai Kaioshin

(FUNimation dub: Elder Kai)

Rou Dai Kaioshin (老界王神 Rō Kaiōshin?) is a Kaioshin who came out of the Z sword, in which he had been trapped by an old enemy. He looks kind of like the East Kaioshin, but with an older, wrinkled face, and a small mustache. Son Gohan releases him during the Majin Buu Saga when he breaks the Z-sword, while trying to cut a block made of the densest material in the universe, Katcheen. After being released, he agreed to help Gohan unlock his full potential so he could defeat Majin Buu, but only in exchange for getting to fondle an Earth woman, whom Goku suggested that it should be Bulma. Rou Dai Kaioshin is perverse like Muten-Rôshi in a manner, but is even more knowledgeable and powerful with no comparison.

Long ago, he used to be handsome by his own standards, but an ugly witch came up to him and stole one of his Potara Fusion Earrings and put it on. Rou Dai Kaioshin was instantly combined with the witch permanently. While he lost his looks, he gained more magical power. In the Majin Buu Saga he sacrifices his life so Son Goku can live, and gives him the Potara earrings to fuse with Gohan on Earth.

In the Baby Saga of Dragon Ball GT, Rou Dai Kaioshin helps Goku become much stronger by helping him regrowing his tail, a painful process involving a giant set of pliers. After Goku has his tail back, he is able to turn into a Super Saiyan 4 and defeat Baby.

[edit] Kibito character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Kibito
Kibito

Kibito is the greatest ally of the East Kaioshin. He has the power of healing, which helps the Z Fighters in many situations. Kibito was to fight Son Gohan in the Budokai tournament but instead asked him to reveal his full power. He was killed by Dabura during reconnaissance on Babidi's ship, but is later brought back to life due to the Dragonballs. He has the ability to heal and restore strength to other beings.

He ultimately, yet accidentally, fuses with the East Kaioshin permanently to create Kibitoshin.

[edit] Kibitoshin character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Kibitoshin
Kibitoshin

(FUNimation's dub: Kibito Kai)

Kibitoshin is the result of fusion between East Kaioshin and Kibito via Potara fusion earrings. He becomes very helpful in the Kid Buu Saga. Added to Kibitoshin's fighting ability would be East Kaiōshin's psionic moves and Kibito's teleporting and healing abilities. Nevertheless, Kibitoshin never fights in the series, since though his power increased drastically, he would still be no match for Buu or any of the GT villains. In the manga, his name is known as Kibitokai.

Unlike other fusions, Kaiōshin seems to be in control and speaks with one voice. The character is also known by the names Kibitokai and Kaiobito.

[edit] Dragons

[edit] Black-Star Shenlong character appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Black Star Shenlong
Black Star Shenlong

(FUNimation's dub: Black Star Shenron)

The Black-Star Shenlong was made by Kami when he and Piccolo were still one being. He can only be summoned by the Black Star Dragon Balls. This dragon can grant any wish, including killing someone, something neither Porunga nor Shenlong can do. After the wish has been made, the Dragon Balls spread around the galaxy, and if they aren't brought back to the planet on which the wish was made in less than a standard year, it will explode.

[edit] Evil Shenlong character appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Evil Shenlong
Evil Shenlong

(FUNimation's dub: Black Smoke Shenron)

In Dragon Ball GT, after the death of Super 17, Goku and his friends put together the seven Dragon Balls. Instead of Shenlong, a hash-smoking black dragon appears, that represents the Negative Energy that accumulated for many years (because the Dragon Balls use positive energy). This dragon is then divided into seven evil dragons, one for every Dragon Ball. Evil Shenlong pays homage to the blue dragon seen in the intro for Dragonball Z.

[edit] Porunga character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Porunga
Porunga

Porunga (ポルンガ?) is Namek's wish granting dragon, summoned when all the Dragon Balls of Namek are gathered. He is more brutal looking than the dragon of Earth, Shenlong, with a heavily muscled upper body and traits that resemble a Namekian. He is 3x bigger than Shenlong. He is also somewhat stronger and can grant three wishes instead of one, so long as it doesn’t exceed his creators power, his creator is still alive, and each request is delivered in the Namekian language.

Initially, Porunga had ability to bring only one person back to life at a time (though he could bring people back multiple times), as compared to Shenlong who can bring back an unspecified number of people but can only do so once. Later, Porunga's power is strengthened to bring back as many lives as needed. A powerful god known as Rou Dai Kaioshin criticized this as "a blasphemous act that disrupts the order of nature" but did not seem to mind after that.

[edit] Shenlong character appears in the original Dragon Ball seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Shenlong
Shenlong

(FUNimation dubs: Eternal Dragon, Shenron)

Shenlong (神龍 Shen Long?, lit. "Dragon God" or "Divine Dragon"), is the wish granting dragon of Earth. The Shenlong of the Black Star Dragon Balls is red, opposed to the Shenlong of Earth who is Green.

Shenlong can be summoned by gathering all seven of the Dragon Balls of Earth. Shenlong can bestow any wish as long as it does not exceed the power of his creator, who must be still alive (i.e. Kami/Piccolo or Dende). Multiple times in the Dragon Ball series, Shenlong threatens to kill the summoner if they do not say a wish on time, or if they do not say a wish at all. Shenlong cannot bring back a person from the dead more than once. The Dragon Balls cannot be used for 365 Earth days after a wish is made, as they turn to stone. The Earth Dragon Balls are relatively small, each about the size of a large orange, much smaller than the namekian Dragon Balls, which are the size of beach balls.

The base for Shenlong is a stone statue kept by his creator. If Shenlong is killed, the Dragon Balls turn to stone. The statue also shatters. If the creator or another Namekian wishes to, they can rebuild the statue to give life back to Shenlong and the Dragon Balls. This happened after Shenlong granted Piccolo Daimaō's wish for youth.

While Kami and Piccolo weren't merged, Shenlong could only grant one wish. After Dende brought him back to life, he was able to grant two wishes(three if the first does not revive more than one at a time). If the summoner wants, he can only make one wish. This makes the Dragon Balls turn to stone for only six months.

[edit] Evil Dragons

(FUNimation's dub: Shadow Dragons)

The Evil Dragons are a group of characters from the Anime Dragon Ball GT. They were born from overusing the Dragon Balls, as every wish creates negative energy that takes many years to dispel. Despite warnings from Rō Dai Kaiōshin, the Z Fighters have used the Dragon Balls much more often than that, and too much negative energy built up. This meant that the Dragon Balls had cracked, and when the Z Fighters tried to summon Shenlong at the end of the Super Jinzōningen #17 Saga, the first Evil Dragon appeared instead, Evil Shenlong informs the Z Fighters about the negative energy, and then split himself into seven more Evil Dragons, one for each Dragon Ball. The Evil Dragons are listed in order of appearance.

[edit] Yi Xing Long character appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Yi Xing Long
Yi Xing Long

(FUNimation's dub: Syn Shenron, Omega Shenron) (Ocean's dub: Ii Shenron)

Yī Xīng Lóng (一星龍 Īshinron?, lit. "One-Star Dragon") is by far the most powerful Evil Dragon, considering how he was made. Liang Xing Long, San Xing Long, Si Xing Long, Wu Xing Long, Liu Xing Long, and Qi Xing Long were created by a certain wish, all of them different. Yi Xing Long is all of the negative energy put into one being. When he first fights Son Goku, he takes a beating, but then gets desperate and absorbs all the other Dragon Balls to reach his ultimate form: Super Yi Xing Long (almost a fusion between all seven Dragon Balls, his form was nearly the same but he wielded all the abilities of the Evil Dragons). This is one of the most powerful villains in the Dragon Ball Universe, and apart from the Super Saiyan 4 Fusion Gogeta (who failed due to his own cockiness) the most powerful fighter at the very end. He was finally defeated by a Genki Dama with energy gathered from all over the universe.

[edit] Liang Xing Long character appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Liang Xing Long
Liang Xing Long

(FUNimation's dub: Haze Shenron)

Liǎng Xīng Lóng (二星龍 Rianshinron?, lit. "Two-Star Dragon") is a dragon-like villain and the first of the seven Evil Dragons to appear. Liang Xing Long came into being when Son Goku used the Dragon Balls to bring a man named Bora back to life after a mercenary, T'ao Pai-pai, had killed him. When Goku made his wish, Negative Energy increased within the Dragon Balls, particularly within the Èr Xīng Qiú (Kanji: 二星球; katakana: エルシンチュウ, Rōmaji: Erushinchū, English: Two-Star Ball). When the Dragon Balls became completely corrupted by Negative Energy, the Er Xing Qui flew into a lake and transformed into Liang Xing Long.

The Evil Dragon's power was to use his Negative Energy to pollute water and slowly kill all surrounding life. He claimed to be the most powerful of the Evil Dragons but Wu Xing Long claimed to be the strongest as well. Wu Xing Long also said that Liang Xing Long was really the weakest (the strongest was really Yi Xing Long).

[edit] San Xing Long character appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

San Xing Long
San Xing Long

(FUNimation's dub: Eis Shenron)

Sān Xīng Lóng (Sanshinron "Three-Star Dragon") is the Dragon of Ice and is also Si Xing Long's brother. San Xing Long joins the fight against Son Goku. San Xing Long was born when Dr. Kochin wished that Shenlong would free Dr. Uiro from his icy prison in the Tsurumaitsuburi Mountains after fifty years. He is much more dishonorable and cowardly than his brother, hiding behind Pan's unconscious body when convenient, and blinding Son Goku in order to make the fight easier. Son Goku eventually proved he didn't need to see in order to beat him, and killed San Xing Long while still blind. He also has the power to manipulate ice and moisture.

[edit] Si Xing Long character appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Si Xing Long
Si Xing Long

(FUNimation's dub: Nova Shenron)

Sì Xīng Lóng (Sūshinron "Four-Star Dragon"), the Dragon of Fire, was born when Piccolo Daimaō wished for youth when Son Goku was 15. Si Xing Long controls the fire element and is able to both use strong fire attacks and be unaffected by them. Initially his skin is covered by a magma-looking armor that boosts his defense but slows him down, eventually he gets rid of that shell and reveals his orange colored skin. He fights Goku, but is killed by Yi Xing Long before his fight can finish. He is temporarily revived when Goku eats the Four-Star Dragon Ball, but is soon killed and absorbed by Yi Xing Long again.

[edit] Wu Xing Long character appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Wu Xing Long
Wu Xing Long

(FUNimation's dub: Rage Shenron)

Despite his small size, Wǔ Xīng Lóng (Wushinron "Five-Star Dragon") carries the power of electricity. He creates a slimy substance that draws the energy out of any object that it touches; the energy is then transferred to his body as strength. The more Wu Xing Long absorbs, the larger he gets, which turns out to be his downfall. Just as he is about to kill Goku, rain starts to fall. It turns out that he expanded himself too large and had nowhere to hide from the precipitation, which ultimately short-circuited him out. Although Wu survived the short-circuit, Goku killed him as soon as it was apparent that Wu Xing Long still wanted to eliminate Goku, and the Dragon Ball embedded in the dragon was restored.

Wu Xing Long was born when Son Goku was wished back to life before Vegeta and Nappa landed on planet Earth.

[edit] Liu Xing Long character appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Liu Xing Long as princess Oto
Liu Xing Long as princess Oto

(FUNimation's dub: Oceanus Shenron)

The Dragon of Water and Wind, Liù Xīng Lóng (Riushinron "Six-Star Dragon"), dons the persona of Princess Oto. Because she captures schools of fish and rains them down on the villagers, the fishermen don't have to fish, and the people in this small fishing village worship her as a god. However, a young villager is suspicious of her, since the seagulls had been acting strangely since her arrival. When asked which wish she was born from, Liu Xing Long becomes angry and embarrassed. This is because she was born when Oolong wished for a pair of women's panties. Her powers revolve around hurricanes: She can generate a hurricane as defense, with the wind diverting any attack that hits it, as well as for offense, with the wind causing damage to anything and anyone it touches. Liu Xing Long can also use wind to put up a disguise to make herself appear far more beautiful (in the form of Oto) than her true appearance, which is closer to an ogre.

[edit] Qi Xing Long character appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Qi Xing Long
Qi Xing Long

(FUNimation's dub: Naturon Shenron)

Qī Xīng Lóng (Chīshinron "Seven-Star Dragon") is one of the seven Evil Dragons, and is the dragon of earthquakes. He is also the dragon of the Qī Xīng Qiú (Chīshinchū "Seven-Star Ball"). Qi Xing Long was born when Bulma wished for the people killed by Vegeta in the Tenka-ichi Budōkai to be revived. When Goku, Pan and Giru were searching for the Dragon Balls, Qi Xing Long was the 4th Dragon they found. Goku easily defeated Qi Xing Long, but then the evil dragon tricked Pan and absorbed her. He gained much power, but due to cockiness (a flaw of many Dragon Ball characters) Goku was able to retrieve Pan, destroy Qi Xing Long and get the Qi Xing Qiu.

[edit] Demonic creatures

[edit] Babidi character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

The evil sorcerer Babidi
The evil sorcerer Babidi

Babidi (バビディ?) was determined to resurrect Majin Buu so that he could continue his father's work, namely conquering the universe, and thus make him proud. Babidi took over the minds of Dabura, Pui Pui, Yakon, and Vegeta to help him in this cause. Babidi's mental abilities are very powerful, surpassing those of various mystical individuals who reside in Other World such as the telepath King Kai, and illusionist Princess Snake. After Buu is released, Vegeta nearly kills Babidi when trying to destroy Buu. When Buu is seemingly destroyed, Piccolo bisects Babidi and leaves him for dead. After Buu revives himself, he finds Babidi who then orders Buu to revive him. Babidi orders Buu to kill Dabura, Supreme Kai, Gohan, Piccolo, Goten, Trunks, Vegeta (before his sacrifice) and whoever else stands in his way. As Buu is very disobedient, Babidi can only control him by threatening to seal him up. After an encounter with Super Saiyan 3 Goku, Buu learns that he is stronger than Babidi. Realizing this, Buu strangles Babidi (so Babidi can't say the spell to seal him up), and then punches his head off in rebellion. Babidi is seen in hell with Cell and Freeza but wanted the Z fighters to win after having created a grudge against Majin Buu.

[edit] Bibidi character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Bibidi
Bibidi

A short wizard who accidentally brought Majin Buu into existence millions of years ago. Quite likely drunk with the power of commanding such a creature, Bibidi embarked on a quest to dominate the universe. This quest involved the elimination of most of the Kaioshin that ruled the universe at the time. When Buu became disobedient, however, Bibidi prudently sealed the genie within a large purple Egg (that bears a striking resemblance to a Xenomorph Egg) while going from world to world. He is eventually killed by East Kaioshin after setting Buu's egg on planet Earth. He isn't seen at all in the manga and is only seen in a few flashbacks during the anime of the Buu Saga. His name is part of a word play from the classic Walt Disney motion picture, Cinderella: Bibidi Babidi Boo, which in turn was based on European folklore.

[edit] Dabra character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

(Dub: Dabura)

Dabura
Dabura

Dabra (ダーブラ Dābura?) is the King of the Demon Realm, and Babidi's right-hand man, being placed under his control by a spell. Dabra has the special power of turning his enemies to stone, simply by spitting on them. His name is originally taken from a Japanese pronunciation of the last half of the incantation "Abracadabra". He fights Gohan to gather energy for Buu, but before they can finish, he notices Vegeta has evil in him. This allows Babidi to grant him power. When Buu is released, Dabra tries to kill him, but is turned into a cookie and devoured by Buu. In the anime, Dabra is later seen wandering as a "good-spirited" soul consumed with love.

Garlic Jr. (ガーリック・ジュニア Gaarikku Jyunia?) is a demon that appears in Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, and during an anime arc. His father was imprisoned by Kami in the realm of darkness, leaving Garlic Jr. with a deep feeling of resentment and desire for revenge. He collects the Dragon Balls, effectively gaining immortality. He is defeated when faced with an angry Gohan, who pushes Garlic Jr. into the Dead Zone, an alternate dimension he can freely open. Though defeated, he later reappears in the Garlic Jr. Saga in the gap between the Freeza and Trunks sagas, and battles once more against the combined efforts of Kuririn, Piccolo, and Son Gohan. He uses his power source, the Makyo Star, to escape the Dead Zone, and uses the Black Water Mist, which causes those who breathed it in to become mindless demon slaves under his rule. He is stopped after Gohan destroys the Makyo star, which drains his power, leaving him trapped in the Dead Zone once again.

[edit] Garlic Jr.'s minions

All of Garlic Jr.'s minions have names that are puns of spices, like Garlic himself. Likewise, all of them share Garlic Jr.'s ability to increase their mass and muscle size, and their power (with this ability and possibly otherwise) seems to be amplified by their proximity to the planet Makyo-sei (literally Devil Star Planet, known as the Makyo Star in the FUNimation dub), though none of them are as strong as he is.

In Dead Zone, Garlic Jr. has three minions known as the Three Patrons of Garlic, who help him gather the Dragon Balls so he can wish for immortality. They also attack Piccolo at the beginning of the movie in an attempt to kill Kami.

  • Ginger, the leader of the Patrons, a short, dark green demon with red eyes who can pull swords out of his arms to fight with. He is destroyed by Goku (along with Nikki) by a Kamehameha.
  • Nikki, a blue-skinned, white-haired demon with a taste for ripe fruit. Similar to Ginger, he can pull a sword out of his thigh to fight with. He fights against Goku alongside Ginger, and is killed by the same Kamehameha that also kills Ginger.
  • Sansho, the biggest and most intimidating of the trio, Sansho is arguably the strongest in terms of raw power but seems less intelligent than the other two. He ends up fighting alone against Piccolo, who easily kills him in revenge for attacking him at the beginning of the movie.

The Four Monarchs. From left to right- Gashyu, Vinegar, Tado, and Salt

Following Garlic Jr.'s escape from the Dead Zone, he is assisted by four new minions, the Four Monarchs (called the Spice Boys in the English dub), in his plan to plunge the world into darkness by pouring a demonic Aqua Mist (called Black Water Mist in the FUNimation dub).

  • Gashyu, the unofficial leader of the four, who has blue skin and white hair. He possesses the ability to grow his hair out very long to ensnare an opponent. His name is Spice in the dub.
  • Vinegar, the largest of the four, who has purple skin and long brown hair.
  • Tado, a large, bovine-like being with long red hair and horns. His name is Mustard in the dub.
  • Salt, the smallest member of the group, who has red skin and blonde hair.

Salt and Tado fight against Gohan and Kuririn and severely injure the latter. In revenge, Gohan kills both of them simultaneously. Gashyu and Vinegar last a little while longer. In a later fight, Vinegar gets imbedded into a wall by a punch from Gohan, whilst Gashyu is impaled on a spike. Both of them are seemingly killed here, but are revived by the rays of Makyo-sei, and, like their predecessors in Dead Zone, bulk up to become almost as large as Garlic himself. Despite their increased power, however, they are both still killed again by Gohan, this time for good.

Hildegarn (ヒルデガ-ン Hirudegaan?) is the enormous monster and main villain in the Dragon Ball Z movie, Wrath of the Dragon. He was created by a group of black magicians who cast a spell of negative energy on a menacing statue and brought it to life over 1,000 years before the time line of the Dragon Ball series on the planet Konats. Before it could destroy Konats, two brothers, Tapion and Minosha, managed to freeze the monster in his tracks by each playing their divine ocarina. This gave a priest the opportunity to cut the monster in half with a divine sword. Since Hildegarn couldn't be killed at the time, his upper-half was sealed in Tapion and the other half in Minoshia. However, fearing that the monster might reappear someday, the brothers were separated, each sealed in a music box oracle, and were shot into opposite ends of the galaxy far away from each other. He has eventually revived on the planet Earth where Son Goku defeats him for good.

He is able to undergo a metamorphosis of sorts, and emerge a more powerful insect-like creature with the ability to fly. Hiredugarn is only tangible when he's attacking, otherwise, he can instantly teleport away.

Janemba (ジャネンバ Janenba?) is the main villain of Fusion Reborn. He is a being of pure evil created when a teenage ogre named Saike accidentally destroys all of the evil purifying tanks in hell. The evil forms around him to create a giant, yellow, and childlike being that turns hell into his own paradise. Goku and Pikkon are sent out to deal with him. Eventually, Janemba is beaten by Goku, but this forces Janemba to transform into a second state, which easily defeats Goku. Vegeta shows up to save him, and the two defeat Janemba by fusing into Gogeta, who purifies Janemba, turning him back into Saike.

Second form
Second form

His first form is chubby and very large. Janemba's intelligence is limited; the only word he knows how to say is his own name. His attacks involve things such as creating miniature versions of himself and of Goku, creating dimensional portals, and shooting ki blasts from the 4 holes on his chest. After being defeated, Janemba transformed. The second form is more powerful and, unlike his previous form, is deadly serious. This form is able to use a deconstruction/reconstruction teleportation known as the "Bunkai Teleport", portals with which he can attack through, able to stretch his arm at lengths, turning objects into deadly weapons, project his opponents' own Ki back at them through portals, and wield a powerful sword capable of shooting Ki out in strikes. Strangely, he (and the marble-like barriers he creates around the entrance to the afterlife) has a weakness against harsh words. When yelled at or insulted, a thin layer of him is broken off like glass.

(FUNimation's dub: King Piccolo)

Piccolo Daimao
Piccolo Daimao

Piccolo Daimao (ピッコロ大魔王 Pikkoro Daimaō?) is a Namekian, and the evil half of Kami. He came into being after the original Namek that Daimao and Kami used to be split into two halves to rid himself of evil. Being formed of pure, concentrated evil, he designated himself as the Great Demon King (Daimaō) and laid siege to the world; at some point he also gave himself the name Piccolo, which at first was a reference to the wind instrument, but then referenced as meaning "from another world" in the Namekian language. Eventually, the Demon King was imprisoned by Mutaito in an electric rice cooker for centuries by the suicidal Mafuba technique.

After being released from his confinement by Emperor Pilaf, King Piccolo decides to kill all the current and former finalists of the Tenka'ichi Budôkai, thereby removing all those who might be able to learn the Mafuba. To aid him in this, he spawns several minions. Many people, including Kuririn, are killed by his minions, making Goku and his friends seek revenge. Goku eventually confronts him, only to easily be beaten.

Piccolo is then able to gather the Dragon Balls to summon Shenlong, allowing Piccolo to wish for the restoration of his youth, becoming more powerful than since he was returned to his physical prime. Piccolo then kills the dragon to prevent anyone else from making a wish that could stop him. With no one left who can properly challenge him, Piccolo overthrows the King of the World and becomes the ruler of the Earth. He institutes several evil policies such as releasing all criminals and a planned system of destruction. Goku ends up facing him, leading to his death. Right before dieing, he spits out one last egg that becomes Piccolo, his son and reincarnation that seeks revenge on Goku years later.

Cymbal is Piccolo Daimao's third minion. He resembles a humanoid plump dragon. He is sent by Piccolo to search for the Dragon Balls. He is killed by Yajirobe, who slices him in half with his katana, then roasts him over a fire and eats him.

Drum

Drum is Piccolo Daimao's fourth minion. Even though he's the shortest-lived evil spawn of Piccolo Daimao, up to this point he was the strongest since Piccolo created him when he was in his prime. Piccolo spits him out just as Tenshinhan arrives to try and trap Piccolo in the Mafu-ba. Drum attacks Tenshinhan, and clobbers him quite easily until Son Goku arrives, at which point Goku flies at him and knocks him out with one kick, and dies instantly by the attack.

Tambourine
Tambourine

Tambourine is Piccolo Daimao's second minion and second most powerful servant, his orders were to hunt down and assassinate all contenders who participated in the Tenka-ichi Budôkai from the most recent dating back to the past ten and a few years so that Piccolo's hostile takeover is a smooth one. He was also ordered to pickup up any Dragon Balls he sees along the way if he happened to come across any. Tambourine kills Kuririn by chance, along with five other participants of the past tournaments. He even beat up kid Son Goku because he was weak from his battle with Tenshinhan and blinded with rage because Tambourine had just killed his best friend. Tambourine also destroyed the Kintoun cloud for good, until Goku got a new one from Karin later in the series. Tambourine was vaporized to bits by Goku's Kamehameha.

[edit] Princess Snake character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Princess Snake
Princess Snake

A giant snake temptress who lures people into her castle on Serpent Road. She also goes by the name Jadōshin. She became the Snake Princess in 739 BC. and the only person who she ever tried to capture her was Enma Daiō 500 years ago. When Goku comes along, she tries to steal his heart, but his sense of loyalty to his family and friends is of course far too strong, so, she just turns into a giant fire-breathing snake and tries to eat him. It is unknown whether Piccolo, Tenshinhan, Chaozu, and Yamcha were also captured by her on their way to meet King Kai, or they simply ignored her castle and moved on. It could be possible that the Serpent Road has more relation to her, rather than to North Kaio. She does not appear in the manga by Akira Toriyama.
