List of solar eclipses seen from China: this describes precise visibility information for solar eclipses and major cities in China. The information is useful because viewing conditions depend on viewer location. Essentially what happens is the moon casts a shadow over a part of the earth. The sky appears to go dark only in a total eclipse and only over a very small area, often just a few miles wide. This is known as the path of totality. Eclipses can be total, annular, or partial. Total and annular eclipses also cast a larger path of partiality.

An eclipse that is "visible from Asia" in general terms might not be visible at all from Beijing. Part of Sri Lanka could fall into darkness for a few seconds and people in Indonesia, India, and Pakistan would enjoy the partial eclipse. Beijing would be too far away to fall under the moon's shadow and the people in that city would see a normal day.

Occasionally a major city lies in the direct path of an annular or total eclipse. This is of great interest to astronomy buffs. Some people make travel arrangements years in advance to observe eclipses. Nearly two-thirds of the earth's surface is covered by ocean. So a total eclipse at a major metropolitan area where hotels and amenities are available an event of considerable interest.

This type of astronomical event is governed by laws of physics at a level of virtual certainty. It is possible to calculate precisely where and when each eclipse will occur for centuries into the past or the future. The orbits of the earth and moon are stable. It would take something catastrophic to change this, such as a very large comet striking earth, and a comet impact of the necessary scale has not happened for hundreds of millions of years.
