- Cathy Hughes, founder and president of Radio One. Hughes grew up in the Logan Fontenelle Projects while her father, William Alfred Woods, was attending was attending Creighton University, later to become the first African-American to earn an accounting degree there. Her mother, Helen Jones Woods, was a member of the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, an all-female swing band.[2]

First black military aviator from Omaha to receive his wings from Tuskegee Field. October 29, 1944 Davis was KIA over Germany[3]
