List of municipalities of Connecticut by population

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of municipalities in Connecticut in order of population from highest to lowest.

Connecticut's fundamental form of local government is the New England town. Connecticut has 169 towns and the entire state is divided up among them. There are nineteen cities and one borough that are coterminous with their namesake towns and have a merged city–town government. There are also two cities and eight boroughs which constitute only a section of the towns in which they are situated.[1][2]

Since their populations are already included in the census figures of their parent towns; for the purposes of this list the non-coterminous cities & boroughs, while listed for comparison purposes, are not given a ranking in the population roll.

A municipality here denotes a governmental sub-unit as chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly and does not include former cities such as Willimantic.

Figures are based on the 2005 U.S. Census Bureau estimates except where otherwise noted.
