List of minor characters in Ranma ½
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ranma ½ features the largest cast of characters of any Rumiko Takahashi series created so far.[citation needed]
Note: Japanese names are in the Western order (given name, then family name).
[edit] Manga/Anime Characters
[edit] Azusa Shiratori
Partner of Mikado Sanzenin, together they form the Golden Pair, a pair of martial arts figure-skaters. Ranma and Akane end up in conflict with them when Azusa takes P-chan resulting in a martial arts figure skating match to see who gets to keep the pig, which she had named Charlotte. The resulting battle was in fact called the "Charlotte Cup."
Azusa is known for taking things she feels are cute and giving them cute French names. She can be particularly violent towards any person that attempts to stop her from having them, even her own partner.
She only appears once in the manga, but in the anime reappears during the first movie for a brief cameo along with Mikado and in a regular episode without Mikado, where she takes Kuno and Sasuke as two of her cute playthings.
[edit] Trivia
- In the dub, Azusa uses a similar speaking style to Shampoo, referring to herself in the third person quite often. Also, they were both voiced by the same person. However, while Shampoo has her speaking style due to lack of knowledge of the Japanese language, it is safe to assume that Azusa developed her linguistic habit as a way to sound "cute", especially considering she refers to herself as "Azusa-chan", adding the feminine, and "cute", treatment form.
- Her Latin American voice actress, Pilar Escandon, was at one time the female voice of Ranma.
[edit] Dojo Destroyer
A huge man who specializes in challenging various martial arts dojos. When victorious, he takes their signs. His fighting style actually uses the signs he has taken as weapons in the duels. A combined effort of Ranma and Akane manages to defeat him.
In the manga, the Dojo Destroyer wore a white gi and had yellow skin, but in the anime he was a dark skined man wearing a green gi.
[edit] Gambling King
The Gambling (Bakuchioh) King, who bears a striking resemblance to the 'King' Poker card, is a gambler who specializes in conning children, the only opponents he can actually defeat, out of their savings or other valuables they might have. Ten years ago, he met Ukyo Kuonji and Ranma Saotome and managed, by cheating, to win both Ukyo’s okonomiyaki cart and the Tendo Dojo, which Ranma had wagered. Enraged by their losses, the young duo turned on the gambler, wrapped him up like sushi, and threw him into a nearby river.
Years later, the Gambling King tracked Ukyo and Ranma down and took possession of the Tendo Dojo and the Tendo home, which he turned into a casino. The King lived in the Tendo home until Nabiki won back the house and Ranma managed to reclaim the dojo by cheating, since he has a bad poker face.
[edit] Trivia
- He was a playable character in Ranma ½: Hard Battle for the SNES.
[edit] Harumaki
Harumaki is an old man who sends an astral projection of himself inside Ranma's dreams; apparently, this was only because of his strong desire of dating female Ranma, who looks very much like his wife when she was young, and not an intentional thing. He gets his wish and is able to date Ranma just once. Since it appeared that Harumaki would die soon and a date would be the only way to help him rest in peace, the young Saotome unwillingly agreed to fulfill the old man's fantasy. In the end, Harumaki fully recovered from his illness.
Harumaki first appears in the anime in episode 144 Run Away With Me, Ranma!, and was seen along with every other anime character in the Ranma ½ OAV The Tendo Family Christmas Scramble.
[edit] Hiroshi and Daisuke
Hiroshi and Daisuke are students in Ranma's class at Furinkan High School. The duo became Ranma's friends and supporters, although they remain jealous of Ranma's luck with the ladies. They eventually learn about Ranma's curse and enjoy looking at him when he is in his girl form, noting "Why can't there be more girls like him?" (The entire school found out during Shampoo's return in the manga but in the anime it was a secret until one of the very last episodes).
[edit] Trivia
- Hiroshi can have multiple meanings, including "great soldier" and "abundant."
- Daisuke can be translated to mean "brotherly affection" or "assistance."
[edit] Madame Saint Paul
The Chardin Family's head maid and bridal instructor, she oversees Ranma's training as Picolet's future bride, in particular in the art of battle dining. Part of her training involves putting a steel corset on Ranma, which is too small for his male form. Her name in the sub is Madame Sanporu, the romaji for "Saint Paul".
[edit] Maomolin the Ghost Cat
Maomolin is a giant ghost cat whom Shampoo accidentally brought to Nerima inside a giant bell she gave to Ranma as a match for the small bell she would keep. Maomolin was sealed inside the large bell and was released when Shampoo handed it over as a gift. The Ghost Cat eventually challenged Ranma to a fight for Shampoo, but was defeated by the Neko Ken, which activated itself when Ranma was overcome by his fear of felines.
Later, on New Year’s Eve, Maomolin lured Shampoo inside Nerima’s cat temple. Once she arrived, he put a curse on her: if Shampoo tried to leave the temple grounds, she would turn into a cat until she reentered them. Also, the curse would lock her in cat form after the 108 New Year's bells had rung unless her true love kissed her. Mousse, Ranma and Akane managed to save Shampoo, even though Mousse was not thrilled by the way Maomolin’s curse had to be broken: the true love the Ghost Cat referred to was Ranma, not himself.
Maomolin appeared a few more times in the anime. In one episode, he possessed Ryoga to try and win over Akane. In another episode, he went to the beach with the rest of the cast and became obsessed with Tsubasa Kurenai after seeing him in a swimsuit contest. He also had a brief cameo in the opening of the last season, wreaking havoc on Furinkan High with Happosai while Principal Kuno was away.
Maomolin is weak and cannot fight at all, but he has a set of magical abilities that allow him to cast spells or curses on people or even possess them. He can be exorcised by physical assault.
[edit] Mikado Sanzenin
The figure skating partner of Azusa, Mikado is the other half of the Golden Pair. He is a classic playboy, always looking to charm women and steal a kiss from them. He says he has a goal of kissing 1,000 different women. He has even managed to kiss Ranma in his female form (it was Ranma's first ever). However, he failed to get one from Akane, his stated intention during the "Charlotte Cup" match. Despite being partnered with Azusa, he appears to have little tolerance of her and often ends up insulting her.
Mikado only appears once in the manga, but in the anime has a brief cameo in the first movie along with Azusa.
[edit] Mrs. Tendo
The mother of Akane, Nabiki, and Kasumi, and wife of Soun Tendo, she died an unexplained death when Akane was very young. Mrs. Tendo is a hard subject for the Tendo family to talk about, especially for Soun, who still mourns her. One of the few things known about her is that she kept a detailed diary of meals she made and the recipes she used to make them, which Kasumi used to emulate her mother's cooking after her death. Akane also attempted to do so with less success.
[edit] Niku Men
The Niku men are four bald midgets with heads shaped like niku (Japanese stuffed buns). The group consists of Niku-Man, Pizza-Man, An-Man and Curry-Man, as their heads are shaped like the food their names suggest. They came from China seeking the Dragon's Whisker that Ranma wore to secure his pigtail. If the Dragon Whisker was mixed in a soup before 1,000 years passed, any bald man who drank it would regain their hair and those who already possessed hair would have it continuously grow until they became bald. This led the Niku Men to attack Ranma, who used the whisker to keep his hair from continuously growing, as he had previously consumed the soup. Also involved were Ranma's father and Happosai, both of whom are also bald. The Niku Men eventually succeeded in obtaining the sacred hair growth tool, but by the time they did, 1,000 years had already passed, rendering its power useless.
[edit] Old Washer Woman
An old woman who is frequently splashing water at the front of her house. Ranma, Ryoga, and the other cursed characters are her accidental victims.
[edit] Trivia
- Her seiyu was Reiko Suzuki.
- She did not appear in the OAVs, but she was in the second OAV opening theme.
[edit] Oni
The Oni was a cartoonish, goofy looking pipsqueak that wasn't very bright. It was imprisoned in a box 5,000 years ago by a monkey priest, but the box rotted, allowing it to escape. It went around possessing Kuno, Ryoga and others to do supposedly "evil" deeds. The only way to exorcise it was to hit the possessed. Once it possessed Kasumi, nobody wanted to hit her. It was released by a sutra the Oni Temple priest had.
In the anime, during the time it spent inside Kasumi, it absorbed the grief and anger of those around her and revealed its true form which was that of a hideous, powerful, demon whose desire was to kill everyone and destroy all of Japan. He set his eyes on Ranma as his first victim, but at that moment Happosai returned from his recent panty raid. The oni sensed his immense amount of evil energy, and possessed him hoping to absorb his power. But Happosai's will was strong enough to resist, Ranma took this opportunity to seal them both in a new box, with some help from Ryoga, and they threw it in the ocean, hoping never to see it again. But the next day, a news broadcast from America reported two demons terrorizing the shores of California, which were in fact Happosai and the Oni. In the manga it is very weak and stupid, more of a nuissance than an actual threat.
[edit] Trivia
- The Oni looks very similar to Shippo's balloon transformation from "InuYasha" and dresses in the manner of the invaders from "Urusei Yatsura", both also written by Rumiko Takahashi.
- Oni are the traditional Japanese demons clothed in tiger skins.
[edit] Orochi
The Yamata no Orochi is the guardian of Ryugenzawa. It is a giant, eight-headed dragon serpent that sleeps at the bottom of the Spring of Life. The magic moss that grows on it is the source of the lake's magical properties. The Orochi is a wine-lover and a pervert that loves to eat beautiful women, and will kill any male in its way. It is Ranma's most powerful non-human adversary, and its magic moss was capable of healing Shinnosuke's fatal wounds.
[edit] Panda Scribble
It is a badly drawn painting of a female panda that was released by Ranma and Genma during one of their arguments. She refused to go back in to the painting unless Ranma went on a date with her for one night. Though she had fun, Ranma suffered humiliation after humiliation. When the date was almost over she asked Ranma to give her a goodbye kiss (Of course he did not realize that she only wanted a kiss on the forehead). After saying goodbye, she went back into the painting, and the artist who drew her added a Ranma scribble to keep her company. In the anime, she is able to briefly assume a human form that in contrast to her panda form is quite beautiful.
[edit] Pantyhose Taro's Mother
Pantyhose Taro's mother was in labor near Jusenkyo when Happosai found her. After helping to deliver her baby, she allowed Happosai to name the baby after he baptized it according to her village law. After baptizing the infant in the spring of Drowned Bull-Crane-Yeti-Eel, he thought for three days and two nights for a perfect name, and finally he gave him the perfect name: "Pantyhose Taro". In the anime, she greatly resembles Akane, but with light blue hair color.
[edit] Picolet Chardin III
Picolet is the current owner and master of the Chardin Family restaurant and martial arts dojo. He is an expert in what is called La Belle France School of Martial Arts. In this unique form of combat, the participants compete to see who can finish his meal first and in the most elegant manner, with the loser having to pay for all the expensive food served during the duel.
Picolet entered the scene during a visit to Furinkan High School were he declared that one of the three Tendo daughters would be his future wife and subsequently defeating Ranma — who interrupted his toast — in Martial Arts Dining. It was later explained that Soun Tendo was in debt to the Chardin Family and that he promised to give them one of his daughters in marriage as payment.
Ranma, still angry at being defeated earlier, volunteered to pose as Picolet’s future bride in order to learn Martial Arts Dining and beat him in a rematch. Eventually, after enduring gruesome training under Madame St. Paul, Ranma managed to defeat Picolet and free the Tendo sisters from the engagement agreement.
Picolet appeared a second time in the anime, where he was suspected of suffering of vampirism. Ranma still has to pay Picolet the money he owes him for the food they ate during their first duel.
[edit] Trivia
- The members of the aristocratic Chardin Family have the ability to stretch their mouths and tongue in a superhuman way, being able to even swallow a whole watermelon with ease.
- The rules of La Belle France School of Martial Arts dictate that the mouth of the participants must not visibly move during a duel, otherwise, the contestant will be penalized for lack of elegance.
[edit] Ryoga's Parents
Like Ryoga, his parents also lack a sense of direction and are rarely ever seen. Before Ryoga's mother gets lost, she usually leaves her son something to eat in the kitchen, but by the time he gets to it, it has already spoiled. She also sets traps in case of burglars although they never work. An example would be the numerous pots and pans that were dropped on Ryoga and Akari's heads during Akane's visit. Ryoga's father usually calls to see if Ryoga or his wife are at home. He was also the one who told Ryoga he did not have a sister when Ranma posed as one, using false fangs as a disguise.
[edit] Satsuki Mikaoji
In the manga, she is the heir to the House of Mikaoji and fiancé of Sentaro Daimonji, Satsuki is a user of the martial arts style of tea ceremony and was declared Miss Tea Ceremony in 1993. She was engaged to Sentaro by her grandmother, but due to her extreme shyness was unable to meet him in person, so instead she sent her pet monkey Sanae to pretend to be her. After much conflict between Ranma, Sentaro and Sanae, she revealed herself and Sentaro became smitten with her, so they agreed to marry.
In the anime, she is still the heir to the House of Mikaoji which is a rival school to Sentaro Daimonji school. When the two groups start feuding again, it is decided that Sentaro should challenge Satsuki to a martial arts tea match, but instead they fall in love at seeing each other and agree to marry.
Satsuki, in the anime, is shown to normally speak so softly that most can't hear her, Kasumi being one of the few that can. However, she can speak more audibly if necessary.
[edit] Sentaro Daimonji
The heir to the House of Daimonji and fiancé of Satsuki Mikaoji, Sentaro is a user of the martial arts style of tea ceremony. As sole heir to the school, he is expected to marry, but wishes to choose his bride rather than have one selected for him. Ranma gets wrapped up in the situation when Sentaro kidnaps her, thinking to make her his bride since she appears strong. In the manga he hopes Ranma can defeat the monkey he thinks is his fiancee, while in the anime it is his grandmother he wish Ranma to defeat. After he learns Ranma is in fact a man, his interest switches to Akane. In the course of battle, Sentaro tries to kill both Ranma and Sanae until he finds that his real fiancee is Satsuki. Sentaro often rides a horse named Tsukikage when he is out in the town.
[edit] Sentaro's Grandmother
The matriarch of the House of Daimonji, she is a very stern woman when it comes to manner and proper etiquette. She is mocking of Ranma, but in the end says that she likes her due to her spirit in the duel. She almost never leaves her formal sitting position, but despite this can move very quickly, even jumping and clinging to ceilings.
[edit] Shinnosuke's Grandfather
Shinnosuke's grandfather used to be a zookeeper near Ryugenzawa before all his animals escaped into the forest. When they drank the water of life, they became monstrously huge and he along with Shinnosuke kept the animals away from the village and the people away from the forest. But as he grew older, he lost a lot of strength and remains in his bed nearly every day. After Akane arrives and stays with them for a bit, he drops numerous hints in Akane and Shinnosuke's presence about their mutual feelings for each other, they respond to by jointly throwing him in the air. He knows a lot about the Yamata no Orochi and its relationship with the Water of Life, although it appears that he does not actually see it until it awakens shortly after Akane arrives. When the Water of Life springs begin to dry up, he attempts to take on the Orochi by himself while disguised as a woman, but fails. When Ranma and Ryoga appear, he supervises the effort against it.
In the OAV, the animals that escaped into Ryugenzawa used to be his pets. When Shinnosuke loses his memory his grandfather will use his "Megaton Punch" to remind him.
[edit] Shirokuro
Shirokuro is Ryoga’s pet dog. She and her puppies are the only members of the family who actually live in the Hibiki home full time. A clever canine, Shirokuro is able to live all by herself for long periods of time while keeping the house clean and her puppies safe. She also holds the distinction of being the only member of the Hibiki family with any sense of direction at all. Additionally, she can recognize Ryoga as both a human and a pig.
She first appeared in the manga during a TV show as an attempt to contact her masters to show them her new puppies, hoping Ryoga or his parents would actually return home. Ryoga did see her on TV, and tried to use the situation as an opportunity to woo Akane. Later, she was seen during the time Ryoga tried to double date Akane and Akari, who were both at his house at the same time. In the anime, Shirokuro appears in only one episode as a fugitive ninja dog chased by Sasuke Sarukagure.
Shirokuro got her name because of her peculiar color, as one side of her body is white (shiro) and the other is black (kuro). In the English translation, she is named Checkers, again a reference to her two-tone fur pattern. Her breed is unclear.
[edit] Ukyo's Father
He is a middle aged man with a scruffy beard and a giant spatula, and he was the one who taught Okonomiyaki Martial Arts to Ukyo. Ten years before the start of the manga, he and Genma made a deal that in exchange for letting Ukyo become Ranma's fiancee and travel with them, he would give Genma his okonomiyaki cart. Genma agreed, but he and Ranma ran off with the cart the next day and left Ukyo behind.
[edit] Yotaro
A supposedly sickly boy who refuses to play outside unless he plays with a panda from his dreams. Naturally, Genma's panda form acts as a good substitute, who Yotaro calls Kumahachi. However, in the end it turns out he's not so sickly as he's able to chase Ranma and Genma all the way home to the Tendo dojo, which was around 20 kilometres away.
[edit] Yuka and Sayuri
Yuka and Sayuri are Akane's friends. They are in her class and are always seen in her company when they show up. They both are very supportive of Akane, trying to cheer her up every time Ranma is being chased by other girls.
Yuka and Sayuri are not as interested in gossiping as Hiroshi and Daisuke are, and they mostly just try to get Ranma and Akane together by dropping subtle hints in Ranma's direction.
Yuka and Sayuri are among the few characters of Ranma ½ who are not seen practicing martial arts; however, they do chase after Happosai along with the rest of the female students in Furinkan any time he tries to steal their underwear.
[edit] Trivia
- In Rumiko Takahashi's subsequent creation InuYasha, one of Kagome Higurashi's best friends at school is also named Yuka.
[edit] Manga Exclusive Characters
[edit] Asuka Saginomiya
(Saginomiya Asuka)
Asuka Saginomiya, also known as the White Lily, is a rich, spoiled girl who has been Kodachi Kuno’s main rival since they were both little girls in Lizard Kindergarten, where they often fought violently to be picked by the coolest kid in class. Eventually, they decided to have a double date (actually it was a ‘duel’) in ten years where they would compare their boyfriends. The one having the most handsome date would win.
By the time of the duel, she tried to ruin Ranma’s face — whom Akane had allowed to pose as Kodachi’s date after Asuka called him ugly — by using explosives and other underhanded tricks. Eventually, it was discovered that Asuka, just like Kodachi, didn’t have a boyfriend. Instead, she presented an incredibly handsome young man whom she had kidnapped earlier. Since both rivals were dateless, their match ended in a draw and they agreed to hold their next duel in five years.
She always carries an empty frame and a bouquet of white lilies to pose as a living portrait of herself.
[edit] The Demon Sakura Tree
The Demon Sakura Tree is an evil spirit who lives inside a cherry tre. When Kuno carved a declaration of love to the 'Pigtailed girl' on it, the spirit felt offended and possessed him, merging with him and turning Kuno into a Cherry Tree Man. Apparently, the only way to break the curse was for Kuno to date his true love, but since he had just written 'pigtailed girl', the tree made him chase every pigtailed girl in town. In the end, Ranma managed to break the curse by scaring the spirit into releasing Kuno. As it turns out, the sakura tree has been in the Kuno family estate since the feudal era, and anyone who wrote the name of the one they love on the tree would be possessed by it and forced to seek out that person.
[edit] Densuke
Densuke is a sickly teenage boy who is on the brink of death because he refused to take his medicine from the very ugly nurses at the hospital. Despite his innocent and ill appearance, he is actually an extremely perverted, flirtatious, butt rubbing, filthy lecher who would rather die than be touched by a hideous woman. One day Densuke was staring out his hospital window watching the autumn leaves fall from the tree as he waited for the last one to fall which would symbolize the time of his death. That day, a female Ranma was picking apples in the same tree, knocking down leaves even faster, which panicked him. He yelled at her to stop. But after seeing Ranma's beauty, he told his mother and doctors that he would take the medicine if she fed it to him. When Ranma gave it to him, he refused, saying he would only take it if she wore a sexy nurse outfit and gave it to him mouth to mouth. Ranma quickly refused but went along with it after some convincing from Densuke's mother and doctor. He did eventually receive his medication mouth to mouth—from his huge-lipped physician (though he didn't know it).
[edit] Trivia
- His personality and tendencies are very similar to Miroku the lecherous monk, a character from Rumiko Takahashi's other series InuYasha.
[edit] Hayato Myojin
(Myojin Hayato)
Hayato Myojin is a takoyaki chef who has a bitter rivalry with Ukyo Kuonji. He also owns a small octopus as a pet named Patorashu.
When he and Ukyo were ten years old, they argued about which dish was better: okonomiyaki or takoyaki. To settle the argument, the children fought, both promising that the loser would have to wear a stupid looking mask for the rest of their life. Ukyo won that fight, thanks to her flat okonomiyaki giving her a huge advantage over the small takoyaki Hayato used.
Six years later, he returned for a rematch, since the only way he could be free of the octopus mask he had been wearing for years was to defeat Ukyo in battle. This time, Hayato was able to win the fight by turning one of Ukyo’s giant okonomiyaki into a massive takoyaki that he used to squash her.He looks like Ryoga.
[edit] Headmistress of Sainokawahara Dorm
She is the ghostly apparition of the deceased headmistress who used to run the old abandoned Sainokawahara women's dorm in Furinkan. When she was alive her dorm used to be the constant victim of perverted panty thiefs, all the panties and bras got stolen every night except for the headmistress's undergarments, and so she died feeling ugly, old and rejected. She hoped Happosai would steal her underwear but he refused to steal such hideous bloomers. Even after she explained to Ranma and Akane that if he didn't steal her underwear before midnight, she would be trapped in the dorm forever and Happosai would die, he was unwilling to do so because they didn't belong to somebody more shapely. Frustrated with the ancient pervert's stubbornness, Ranma shoved a pair of bloomers into Happosai's mouth which made the headmistress squeal "PANTY THIEF!" with glee, allowing her to rest in peace. Happosai, on the other hand, was disgusted.
[edit] Kiima, Koruma, and Masara
Kiima is part raven and is the general of the Phoenix Army, and she is Saffron's babysitter, she came to Nerima to find the map through Jusendo. Later, in order to recover the map and Saffron's weapon from Ranma, she creates a "Drowned Akane" spring in Jusenkyo (though it is questionable why it doesn't just turn into a regular " Drowned Woman/Girl " spring) and now has a cursed form of Akane (used to trick Ranma in an inn's bathroom.) Though, since she lives in such close proximity to the springs she could easilty reverse it.
- Attacks: Ten-thousand Bird Wing Slice: By flapping her wings very rapidly Kiima can send out huge numbers of vacuum blades to slice almost anything.
Koruma and Masara act as Kiima two lieutenants, aiding her in battle. Like Kiima they are part bird with wings and are capable of flight. As well both have Jusenkyo curses to change into normal humans.
[edit] Konatsu's parents
They were honest, kind and caring people, and they were the picture of perfect parents, sadly Konatsu's mother died when he was young which left his father lonely and devastated, blinded by his grief and missery he remarried Kotet, but afterwards he died an unexplained death as well, which left Konatsu to be raised by his evil step mother and step sisters.
[edit] Kotet, Koume and Koeda
They are Konatsu's hideous, big lipped step family and they were in charge of the Sexy Kunoichi Tea Shop before Happosai destroyed it. Kotet is Konatsu's diminutive step mother, she has a Hitler moustache and is always smoking a Cuban cigar. Koeda is Konatsu's skinny, flat chested sister, she always has a flower lotus in her hair and she has a soup bowl hair cut. Koume is Konatsu's bald, overweight, noseless sister, she always wears sunglasses and wears two flowers on her head, like her mother and sister her lips are huge but unlike the other two her mouth is also gigantic with enough room to fit both Ukyo and Akane.
[edit] Lukkosai
(Rakkyosai)
Lukkosai is Happosai's childhood friend, and as such they are both extremely perverted and their personalities are identical. They are also martial arts masters, except that Lukkosai specializes in martial arts painting. When they were teenagers in China, they stole beautiful breast prints from each other, which in turn caused their friendship to crumble. During this time Happosai steals Lukkosai's Brocide Butterfly (a tablet of Rainbow colored ink) and they never spoke again. One hundred years later, Lukkosai went to Jusenkyo to find a spring that could make him a teenager again, but he instead became a 9 year old boy, having fallen into the Spring of Drowned Child. He used his appearance to become Happosai's student, retrieve the butterfly, and get his revenge, but Ranma continued getting in his way. When his true form was revealed, he quickly defeated Ranma and went after Happosai. Their friendship was restored after reminiscing about their youth leading them to work together to get prints of girl Ranma's breasts, but they restarted their vicious feud shortly thereafter. Ranma eventually got them to stop by given them each a print of what they think was each of her breasts (actually of a Tanuki statue).
[edit] Attacks
- Note: all of Lukkosai's moves begin with the phrase "Lightning Sharp Pen"
- Inescapable Ink: Ink infused with mystic glue that wraps around an opponent to immobilize them.
- Ink Web: Similar to the above move, but the ink is in the form of a large spider web (has a bra on it to lure in Happosai.)
- Blazing Ink Ring: Lukkosai draws a ring around his opponent, which then ignites into a ring of fire,
- Wasabi Ink-Bomb: Little paintbrushes filled with wasabi, used to stun opponents.
- Wild Butterfly Dance: After recovering the Bromide butterfy, Lukkosai uses it to create a swarm of Rainbow colored Butterflies to distract an opponent (a female one) in order to get a breastprint from her.
[edit] Mint and Lime
Mint and Lime are Herb's bodyguards and have served him since they were children. Mint is the swiftest of the three while Lime is the strongest. Herb's power lies in his/her ability to manipulate chi.
Mint is an expert bladesman and carries several throwing knives, but unlike Mousse he only has a very limited supply. His speed is enchanced by his wolf heritage and he is the only character to be described to be 'beyond the human limit' in this regard.[1] Even when Mousse used his full arsenal and skill, Mint proved too much to handle in an honest confrontation, and Mousse had to resort to distracting him to look in another direction and then 'sucker-punch' him with a large mace.[2]
Lime, like Ryoga, possesses astounding endurance and monstrous strength, which is further enchanced by his tiger heritage. Excepting Happosai's giant form, he is likely the physically strongest character in the series, as one full force blow was nearly enough to knock out Ryoga,[2] while he easily withstood a similar effort from Taro-'minotaur',[3] which, for comparison, proved capable of immediately defeating Ranma-onna.[4] For a limited time he even managed to a keep large fissure from closing through strength alone.[5] While Ryoga initially proved able to easily avoid his attacks,[2] Mint accidentally plowed into him from behind, allowing Lime to strike him while his guard was down. He managed to nearly choke Ryoga to death, but was defeated by his Shi Shi Hokodan blast.[6]
Since they were raised within a society of male martial artists, Mint and Lime have never had contact with any women excepting their mothers (the Musk left the practice of marrying transformed animals long ago). Because of this, they can be very girl-obsessed and will be stricken with happiness just by the sound or touch of them. Mint isn't very experienced with women and can be very shy around them. He still seems to be familiar with Amazon law though, which he used to challenge Shampoo for a date, though even then he was very reluctant to hit her. Despite his lack of experience with women, Lime does not possess as much timidity. For instance, he actively pursues his desire to touch Akane Tendo's buttocks and both possess an over-obsession with breasts, which is a constant nuisance to Herb as they spy on her while she's bathing. Possibly due to their animalistic nature, they do not have qualms about killing in order to win.
[edit] Trivia
- Mint's signature attack is his Wolf Fang Meteor Bullets. Using his high speed, Mint "warps" behind his opponent and rapidly hurls dozens of ribboned daggers at them. It can also be used to pin them to objects.
- Mint resembles InuYasha from Rumiko Takahashi's other anime InuYasha, as they both have dog ears.
- The actual pun in Mint and Lime's names is that all of the Chinese characters are named after beauty products, musk fragrances or lingerie.
[edit] Occhan
Occhan is one of Ukyo's friends that runs the Heracles okonomiyaki restaurant. He had obtained the legendary Cursed Spatula, it is said that only a true okonomiyaki chef master can wield it he however failed and suffered the curses wrath, afterwards he had called Ukyo for help, she and Ranma came to his restaurant to find the spatula and once they did they tried to make okonomiyaki with it, but due to the curse the spatula had a mind of its own and it shot out blasts of immense heat every time someone tried to use it to make Okonomiyaki.
[edit] Trivia
- Occhan's head is also shaped like a spatula (which has nothing to do with the curse, but is strange nonetheless).
[edit] Pink and Link
(Pin Ke and Lin Ke)
Pink and Link are twin sisters. They live in a village near to Joketzusoku called Yaokaicun, which is famous for its herbalists. Pink and Link usually say 'please' (others think they say 'Over' as in radio talk) at the end of their sentences and act quite opposite to each other, Pink being rude and Link being nice. However, when it comes to taking revenge on someone, they both act as one.
When they were little girls, they had an unfortunate meeting with Shampoo (who was a little girl as well and was visiting Yaokaicun at the time). Pink poisoned her and Link came by and cured her. After waking up, Shampoo thought Link was Pink and hit her. Later on, when Shampoo learned of her mistake, she ended up hitting the herbalist twins about a hundred times each. Years later, the Amazon newspaper prints as story saying Shampoo has married Ranma. After reading that, the twins go to Japan and Pink poisons Ranma and Link cures him, but Ranma, mistaking Link for her sister just as Shampoo did, beats her up. When the two reveal themselves, they start their plot to kill Ranma and Shampoo.
Eventually, the twins capture Shampoo and take her to their poison plant forest. However, Shampoo was only pretending to be caught, since she wanted to use the twins' plan as an opportunity to have Ranma save her. The plan backfired and both Ranma and Shampoo ended up as the twins' prisoners. Akane then has to go rescue them with some magical items she gets from Cologne. In the end, Ranma saves the day using the fire rod (that Cologne gave to Akane) to burn down the forest the herbalist twins created around Furinkan High School.
[edit] Rouge
Rouge is a 16 year old Hindu girl from China who holds a grudge against Pantyhose Taro. This is because one night while he was exercising, he heard some strange noises nearby and when he checked to see what it was, it turned out to be a beautiful girl bathing in a hot spring. As he stared at her, she quickly became aware of his presence, and began throwing what ever she could find at his head, including items she called her sources of power which somehow ended up inside Taro's barbells. Taro managed to escape with his barbells, but after Rouge realized her sources of power were gone, she quickly went after him and changed into her Asura cursed form. The two subsequently battled in their respective cursed forms. After Taro was defeated, Rouge became a huge fireball and shot themselves all the way to Nerima. After arriving in Nerima Rouge was knocked into a fountain by Taro and fell unconscious. Akane and Ranma soon find Rouge and take her back to the Tendo home. After she awakens, she requests Ranma's assistance in getting back the source of her powers, which she believes was stolen by Pantyhose Taro. After much carnage and destruction, Rouge discovers that the power source she uses are fairly common and buys quite a few of them before heading back to China. Taro believed he could use the source of power to take over the world. Instead, he ended up looking foolish when he learned that Rouge's sources of power were simply small magnetic disks used to prevent stiffening in one's back, a serious problem for her since her cursed form has six arms.

This led Ryu's father to believe he could use the Yamasenken to restore his dojo, but when he used the technique he ended up destroying it, causing it to fall on top of him which led to his death. With his last moments of life he gave Ryu the scroll and told him to find the scroll containing the companion Umisenken.

While eating a picnic outside, Yohyo's meal was interrupted by a starving Ranma who happened to be in girl form at the time. Apparently oblivious to the young man's presence, Ranma stepped on Yohyo's head and devoured his meal before running off. The only thing Yohyo saw was a girl with a pigtail, and he quickly fell in love with her. He then swore on his life to find the mysterious Stomperella.
One day while Ranma was at the beach, she got lost in the ocean and drifted to Heron Island. She searched through the island and found a beautiful castle. After letting herself in she quickly searched for food until she arrived at the garden and saw hundreds of red-haired pigtailed girls enjoying a party hosted by Yohyo, the owner of the castle. He was having each of the girls step on his head to see which foot matched the footprint on his head, but none fit and he soon gave up. But at that moment, Ranma saw the huge table of food behind him and used Yohyo's head as a stand as she scarfed the food down. Yohyo's butler measured Ranma's foot and discovered that it matched the footprint perfectly. Yohyo was filled with joy as he had finally found his Stomperella.
When he learned that Ranma was actually male, Yohyo explained that his family was on the verge of bankruptcy. Heron Island was once home to a thriving hot springs resort run by Yohyo's family. But some time prior to their meeting, a boulder had clogged the intake, drying up the spring, forcing the resort to close. Feeling sorry for Yohyo and wanting to make up for breaking the young man's heart, Ranma shattered the boulder, which restored the springs' vibrancy and allowed the resort to re-open.
[edit] Trivia
- The Yo in Yohyo means society, which is indicates that Yohyo is wealthy. Tsuru means Crane or Heron which is one of the reasons why the island is called Heron Island.

He can also use their martial arts techniques by just watching them once, although apparently he must be in the form of the person to execute the techniques he copies. His form changing is not limited to men as he has copied both Akane and Ranma's female form.
Ken is sly and deceptive, and his opponents tend to underestimate him, viewing him as only a pale imitation of the original martial artist(s). He was defeated by Ranma when the latter "became" the technique Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire.

Leader of a trio of martial arts rhythmic gymnastic men, he appears with his team mates to reclaim rhythmic gymnastics as a male sport. Akane and Mousse help Ranma in confronting him and eventually find out that the water is nothing more than normal water and that the frog versions of Genma, Ryoga and Shampoo are fakes, with the real ones simply being asleep. His true intention was simply to scare Ranma. Later he show up to try a steal a small dragon Ranma found, so he can eat it and gain immortality. The Frog Hermit's cursed frog form is unusual in that it is not only the same size as his human form, but is also able to stand and talk, which he claims is because he has "been around so long".
[edit] Genji Heita
A martial arts student who joins the Tendo training hall after seeing a battle between Happosai and Ranma. Although Kuno expects to meet either the pigtailed girl or Akane, instead he meets Nabiki. Luckily (for Kuno anyway), Gindo accidentally used normal wood in the fire that was burning when he made the prediction, meaning that he had acted incorrectly.
[edit] Higuma Torajiro
A overly passionate teacher Principal Kuno hires on. He is obsessed with youth and encourages his students to embrace their dreams and be passionate about them. He pays particular attention to Ranma who refuses to be inspired by his methods. However, his encouragement is so extreme that it makes people uncomfortable.
[edit] Trivia
- His name means brown bear.
- Due to his sparkling smile, determined attitude and over obsession with youth his personality is very similar to the Tai-jutsu master Might Guy from the Naruto anime. By the same token, he is also similar to (though less intelligent than) Coach Shun Mitaka from Takahashi's Maison Ikkoku.

Genma stole back Ranma later, but the father tracked down Ranma to the Tendo dojo. In order to decide which engagement would stand, Kaori challenged Akane to the 'Miss Martial Arts Takeout Race'.
[edit] Trivia
- In the manga, it is Shampoo who participates in this race, which occurs between Ryoga's Breaking Point training and Happosai's introduction, but in the anime it takes place shortly before she returns from China.
- Kaori's special techniques consist of: Shampoo's Delivery Box Blowout and Chow Mein Strike techniques from the manga (renamed It's Fast or It's Free and Ramen Roundup Noodle Noose respectively), Fishcake Blizzard (which involves throwing a plethora of fishcakes at the target, presumably to blind them) and the ability to use chopsticks as throwing weapons, apparently to the point of being able to target pressure points with them.
[edit] Kogane Musashima
Kogane was a ghost trapped inside a notebook in the Furinkan High School store that Kuno, Ranma, and Akane had found. She sings a song that is supposed to lead to a treasure hidden in the school, but in the end it turns out to be a stuffed raccoon toy she used to own. In her second appearance, she visited the Tendos for the festival of Oban. During this time she met Hikaru Gosunkugi who fell in love with her. Apparently, the feelings were mutual.

Akane, Nabiki and Ranma all pretend to be Dr Tofu's bride to be in order to get her off his back (Nabiki talks him into hiring her for this purpose). However, when Kasumi arrives Kin recognises his "spaced out" reaction to her as being identical to that of her deceased husband's behaviour while he was trying to court her. She realises that her son will have to work through his issue in the same way as his father did and leaves him, confident that he will marry Kasumi eventually.
[edit] Kin'nee
A member of the Blue Dragon Sword Muscle Martial Arts School, he is a swordsman who helps the Jusenkyo Morals Committee to capture and attempt to punish the various cursed characters: Ranma, Genma, Shampoo, Mousse, and Ryoga. He also has a curse of his own, having fallen into Fushan Niichuan, spring of drowned priest. Unlike the other curses, Kin'nee's curse affects both his personality and memory. The priest Kin'nee has no memory of the time Kin'nee is in his normal form and has no desire to fight, making this curse Kin'nee's biggest weakness.
[edit] Attacks
- Earthquake Break dance: By spinning his sword rapidly, Kin'ee creates huge slicing wind to cut the surrounding area (rocks, trees, mountains, etc) into large chunks them sending them falling at high speeds at his opponent.
- Kin'ee can also fly like a helicopter while spinning his sword.
[edit] Ling Ling and Lung Lung
A pair of young Amazons come from Shampoo's village to aid her in punishing the outsider, otherwise known as Ranma, who defeated Shampoo. This leads them into conflict with Shampoo, Ranma and Akane. After this is resolved and they learn the truth, they return to China, but later return in another episode where they battle Akane unsuccessfully. They are seen a third time in the Ranma ½ OAV The Tendo Family Christmas Scramble. Although referred to as Shampoo's sisters, Akane clarifies that this means village sister, not biological sisters. In Japanese, they are referred to as Lin-Lin and Ran-Ran.
[edit] Little White Piglet
She is a small piglet who greatly resembles a white version of P-chan and wears a pink bandanna. She was being chased by some mean farmers until she ran into P-chan in a small cabin in the forest. After explaining her situation to P-chan, he quickly hid her in his backpack. When the farmers arrived, he had already changed back into Ryoga and told them he hadn't seen any pigs. After they left, he took out the small piglet, who was rather frightened until she figured out that Ryoga was P-chan, at which point she quickly gave him many little kisses.
[edit] Manpukuji Temple Priest
A priest from the Manpukuji Temple who helps Ukyo rediscover the battle aura in her food inorder to fight Crepe King Joe. One of his temple's great treasures is a 100 year old Okonomiyaki that has so much battle aura in it that it has not spoiled over that whole time. Ukyo believes this to be made by the founder of the Kuonji School of Okonomiyaki, Ukyo's great grandfather.
[edit] Master Chingensai
A old martial arts master specializing in an ancient Chinese form of ninjitsu. In particular he has an invisiblity technique known as the Body-B-Gone. Soun and Genma trained under him for a time hoping to beat Happosai. However, it turned out that Chingensai is perverted like Happosai. In fact he is an old friend of Happosai's and the technique was meant to be used to peek on girls.
[edit] Matsu, Take, and Ume
The three elders of the Daimonji school of martial arts tea. While initially introduced mostly as advice givers to Sentaro, they are capable fighter in their martial arts style as well, and are roughly equivalent to Ino, Shika and Cho from the Mikaoji school. They are, however, very formal in their style, even criticizing Kasumi on her drinking of tea during a meeting.

A nursery school teacher that Happosai falls in love with. She treats him quite kindly while unaware of his perversions, prompting him to attempt to change his ways, but she ultimately finds out and is disgusted by him.
[edit] Miyo
A fortune teller in Akane's class who uses tarot cards to predict people's futures. Akane had her fortune read by her, and she predicted she would marry in a week. She also predicted Happosai's death. However, neither prediction came true.
[edit] Mousse's Mother
Mousse's mother is not seen in the manga but in the anime she did send Mousse a letter asking how his progress with Shampoo was going. She worries about her son very much and hopes he does succeed in gaining Shampoo's affection, but feels that her son should at least be more patient about it. Like her son she wears thick coke bottle glasses and is a member of the Joketsuzoku tribe in Ni-Chie-Zu. In her first appearance, she was seen with her sleeves rolled up so it is unknown whether or not she studies the same style of martial arts as Mousse.
[edit] Natsume and Kurumi Tendo
They were two orphans who had been searching for their long lost father for as long as they could remember. They were attacked by a giant bear and rescued by Happosai. The girls quickly asked who he was, and he replied that he was their long-lost father Soun Tendo. Soon after, Happosai left the girls and disappeared. But before he departed he promised them that they would inherit the Tendo Dojo when they got older and even left them a note saying so. Sadly they don't remember what Happosai looks like. Many years later they came to Nerima seeking Soun Tendo, but Kurumi continuously ate the food of all the town's residents on their way. Once they found the Tendo Dojo they revealed themselves as Soun's long-lost daughters and attempted to take ownership of the dojo. However, Akane and Ranma manage to defeat the pair after some training. The two girls departed on good terms after their defeat and learning the true identity of the person that gave them the note.
[edit] Techniques
- Kurumi's fighting style utilizes a red ribbon she wears in her hair which she can charge with incredible heat. She also is able to do a form of speed eating, although she doesn't use this in combat.
- Natsume's fighting style utilizes what appears to be a carpet beater or similar implement she wears normally on her back. She can use this to strike an opponent with intense cold, or create miniature ice tornados.
- Hiryū Karimbou (Ring of Dragon Fire): A combined attack, similar to the Hiryu Shoten Ha, where Kurumi creates a hot spiral with her ribbon while Natsume fills this spiral with a blast of cold energy.
[edit] Trivia
- Their only appearance was in the Ranma ½ OAV The One to Carry On.
- Kurumi is actually capable of not only eating Akane's cooking but also enjoying it - a fact which even Soun Tendo comments on.
- They are arguably the strongest female characters in the series as they are both equally as fast as Ranma and they are the only females in the series capable of unleashing Ki-Blasts.
[edit] Princess Ori and Kengyu
Princess Ori and Kengyu are two lovers of the Milky Way Martial Arts School and two characters in the Tanabata love story. Princess Ori comes to earth shortly before the Tanabata festival looking for Kengyu who has been away on a training trip. With the help of Akane and Ranma, she finds him challenging various Martial Arts schools, defeating his opponents with the "Kengyu Shooting Star Kick" which actually turns out to just be having his steer Li'l Moo attack his opponent from behind. After Ranma manages to defeat him, Kengyu returns to Ori. However, it turns out the entire encounter with the pair was merely a delusion Akane had after falling off a balcony.
The pair's relationship somewhat mirrors Ranma and Akane's, the two being engaged by their parents, both being martial artists, and Ori even being lousy at domestic tasks in the same way Akane is. However, unlike Akane and Ranma, they are open with their feeling for each other.
[edit] Rinko
She is a hot tempered professional go-kart racer who participates in a race at an amusement park Ranma and company are at. The prize is a dinner for two, which Ranma and the others also want. Although in the early part of the race she is in front, Ranma soon passes her, as well as Happosai. In the end she lost the race after she crashed along with most the others save Kasumi and Nabiki who had been racing conservatively. In the end Kasumi wins the prize.
[edit] Sakura
A mysterious woman who shows up at the Tendo Dojo looking to speak with Genma. When the others go to find out who she is, she asks to speak with Ranma, but Genma refuses to allow her to do so, leaving with her before the others can get a good look at her. Happosai then tells the tale of a woman Genma met during their training together who bore his son, namely Ranma. However, Sakura's parents opposed the match and they were separated, Genma taking Ranma with him. The conclusion they draw from this is that she has returned to take her son.
However, this whole tale turns out to be just a piece of fiction. This woman actually works for a traveling circus and when she saw Ranma transform, wanted him as an attraction in that circus. Genma was simply trying to substitute for Ranma in the circus. Although Happosai gives her name as Sakura, her real name is never given, and likely is not Sakura since the rest of the tale was false.
[edit] Sankichi Urakishi
A Martial Arts Shogi player that Genma beat by cheating a year ago. Due to that loss, he became a drunkard and his wife Koharu left him. Since then he has trained to face Genma in a rematch. However, Genma again cheats and wins their first normal shoji match, causing Sankichi to challenge him to a Martial Arts Shogi match, where people take the place of the pieces. Genma initially dodges the challenge, but after Sankichi and his men steal most of their food, Genma, Soun, Ranma, and Akane end up facing them. After losing all his pieces, he uses Akane as a shield. Since Ranma can't bring himself to hit Akane, he ends up losing, but Koharu shows up and gets him to leave.
Though Genma was forced to cheat to defeat him, Sankichi is hinted to actually be a rather bad player: one of the earliest scenes in the episode in which he appears involves him losing to a teenage member of a shogi club. This scene implies that he is skilled at Martial Arts Shogi (referred to as Battle Shogi in the dub), but rather bad at normal shogi. He also mistakes any girl he sees for his wife regardless of what they look like, including Akane, Nabiki and Kasumi.
[edit] Satori
While lost in the woods one day, Ryoga runs into Satori, a boy who claims he can read minds. After seeing a picture of Akane, Satori goes to the Tendos' to meet her. Although his mind reading talents are genuine, he finds himself initially unable to prove it as Nabiki's thoughts of money are too powerful, and Happosai's thoughts are too perverted. Akane, in particular, proves completely unreadable. He is, however, able to read Ranma's mind and torments him with this, claiming he knows Ranma is keeping a secret. Initially this seems to be about a doll of Akane's that was damaged, but Satori claims it is something more than that.
When he attempts to speak with Akane about Ranma and still finds her unreadable, Nabiki suggests to him that he can't read her because he has a crush on her. Satori then challenges Ranma to a duel, but during the fight Akane interferes and he is finally able to read her mind and decides to leave.

However, in the end he accepts one of Ranma's challenges and fights him in a formal Martial Arts Calligraphy challenge where the combatants must write out a set of characters during combat. However, during the battle, his weakness is revealed, namely they he starts to laugh uncontrollably to anything he finds funny.

However, after getting a few pointers from Kasumi, Akane defeats Temari in a rematch, taking back the sign.

A woman who enamored Emperor Xuanzong. She was murdered and left a curse. Her bra contained her spirit and was cursed to prevent the possessor from looking at any woman other than Yang Gui-fei by covering their eyes. However, when Soun attempts to use this bra to trap Happosai, she is so disgusted by him that she releases him then later disappears after a brief battle, causing the bra to disintergrate in order to avoid him.
[edit] Trivia
- When Yang Gui sets her eyes on Genma Saotome in his true form, she instantly abandons her attack on Ranma (in cursed form, to avoid her man-hypnotising powers) and Akane to pursue him, believing him to be her former love.
- She is based on the real Yang Guifei of Chinese history.
[edit] Yasukichi
Also know as Vagabond Yasu, an odd man with a talent for catching eggs in mid air. He stumbled into Kasumi one day and the encounter had a mysterious effect on her, prompting Nabiki to suggest Kasumi had fallen in love with him, much to Soun's dismay. However, by chance he ends up at Dr. Tofu's clinic and sees an encounter between Kasumi and the doctor and decides to act as match maker for the two.
It turns out that Kasumi knew Yasukichi when they both were very young and gave him a charm he still carries with him. He may have been in love with her at that time but unable to admit his feeling.
[edit] Yuki Onna

When she awakens she speaks of a monster named Nu which came after her. Ranma and Akane go out to hunt this monster thinking it is the cause of the unusual cold. When Ryoga recovers he joins Ranma in battling Nu.
It turns out the girl is the legendary Yuki-Onna, mystical woman of the snow and that Nu is actually something of a guardian that falsely believed Yuki was in danger. Yuki also reveals herself to have a more adult form and thanks them for their aid, particularly Ryoga, before leaving.

Lychee’s pet elephant, guardian, and companion, Jasmine is highly intelligent. She understands her master’s commands and intentions perfectly, serving as powerful weapon for Lychee, who has no fighting ability. Jasmine can project a battle aura that can become massive and powerful enough to knock away all the pursuers chasing Ranma, Akane, and Happosai at the beginning of the movie, and is fast and skilled enough to prevent all of Team Ranma’s initial attempts to board the small ship she and Lychee are on by knocking them off. She can use her trunk as a powerful suction device, and is also able to execute a series of body slams on Happosai. Jasmine forms a quick friendship with Wu when they meet for the second time in front of his castle gate, apparently content with him stroking her trunk.
[edit] Lychee
Lychee is a young Chinese girl who came to the Tendo Dojo seeking revenge on Happosai. Many years ago Happosai had eaten at her grandmother's restaurant and in exchange for the meal he gave her grandmother half of a legendary scroll, he told her that who ever possessed this scroll would one day meet their prince charming, Lychee then received the scroll from her grandmother and for ten years she waited for her prince to come, after so many years she had given up all hope and then she swore vengeance on Happosai for having wasted her childhood. But once she arrived at the Tendo Dojo and punished Happosai she angrily threw the scroll at Happosai and it bounced of his head and it landed on Akane's lap, and at that moment Kirin had arrived searching for his bride to be and he took Akane since she possessed the marriage scroll. But thanks to the help of Ranma and the others, Akane was saved and Lychee swore that she would find her prince charming on her own. A month later, a letter and a photo had arrived at the Tendo Dojo which revealed that Lychee and Kirin were happily married.
[edit] Seven Lucky Gods Martial Artists
The Seven Lucky Gods Martial Artists serve as the primary villains in the first movie. They are a group of skilled warriors from Nekonron, a remote region in China. Only Cologne and Happosai among the characters know about them. Most of them (as noted below) are based on members of the mythical Seven Lucky Gods. They travel to Japan in order to retrieve the second half of the Scroll of Luck and its bearer using a flying ship. The group is not limited to Kirin and his six warriors, but also includes masked followers who among other things, crew the flying ship and remain largely unseen throughout the movie. An odd characteristic about the people from Nekonron is that their unique metabolism only allows them to eat rice and pickled vegetables.
[edit] Bishamonten
A large, halberd-wielding man, Bishamonten defeats Genma and Soun in combat when Team Ranma boards the Seven Lucky Gods’ flying ship. He is the guardian of the first castle gate, but does not get to fight, being defeated by one of Happosai’s Happo-Fire Burst bombs. Bishamonten is likely based on the Japanese god of the same name.
[edit] Daikokuse and Daihakuse
Daikokuse and Daihakuse are a pair of identical twins who are go masters. They can be distinguished by the black and white spheres (both sides of a go piece) that are respectively portrayed on the front of their shirts. During Akane and Kirin’s breakfast, they are perched on a Lazy Susan between the two, and alternately place slices of pickled vegetables on their rice bowls. The two do not actually fight when Team Ranma boards the Seven Lucky Gods’ flying ship. Daihakuse and Daikokuse are the guardians of the second castle gate, the floor of which is actually a giant go board. Using a regular-sized go board and pieces, they can pinpoint where their opponents are on the giant board, and attempt to crush them by causing massive go pieces to come down upon the giant board. The key flaw to this strategy however, is that the more go pieces are laid down, the more places an opponent actually has to go by getting on top of the pieces, and the twins cannot tell where someone is when this happens. Ranma smashes their go board, which also destroys their castle. Which members of the mythological Seven Lucky Gods they are based on is not clear.
[edit] Ebiten
The smallest member of the Seven Lucky Gods, Ebiten appears to be Kirin’s right hand man, who holds Kirin’s half of the Scroll of Luck. He wields a fishing pole with a very long line, which he can use to snag targets, whip or cut opponents, or create a partial illusionary effect that distracts them. Despite his small size, Ebiten is able to pull Akane from the ground high into the air and onto the Seven Lucky Gods’ flying ship using his fishing pole. He defeats Ryoga when Team Ranma boards the flying ship, and is the guardian of the fifth and final castle gate. Eibten presses Ranma at first, but after his fishing pole is broken by one of Ryoga’s headbands, he gets trampled on by the rest of Team Ranma as they charge into Kirin’s tower. Ebiten is likely based on the god Ebisu.
[edit] Prince Kirin
Prince Kirin is the leader of the Seven Lucky God Martial Artists. He has come to claim the holder of the scroll as his bride, and while Lychee actually owns the scroll, Akane happens to be holding it when Kirin arrives. Team Ranma chases them back to Nekoron, and Ranma defeats Kirin after battling his way though through the other six Lucky Gods, thus rescuing Akane. He is named after the mythical Kirin, as is shown when he introduces himself.
[edit] Techniques
- Chopsticks: Kirin can use his chopsticks to block almost any physical attack. He can even move fast enough to block all of Ranma's Chestnut Roasting on an Open Fire moves. They cannot stop water or presumably any attack by something that cannot be held by the chopsticks. Another possible weakness of this defense is demonstrated by Akane, who forced Kirin to block one of her fists then successfully defeats his guard with her other fist showing that Kirin can only use this guard with one hand at a time.
- Hundred Chopsticks Sting: Using his chopsticks and his incredible speed, Kirin flings countless pieces of rice (from his always present bowl) after charging them with ki, making them look like single yellow chopsticks.
[edit] Monlon
The sole female member of the Seven Lucky Gods, Monlon is the guardian of the fourth castle gate. She uses her lute as a club, but can also employ its strings to tightly ensnare her opponents with the Phantom Restriction Attack. She can then send vibrations along the strings which are magnified as they travel the strings’ length, cutting into the targets’ flesh. If the vibrations are powerful enough, the targets can even be killed, especially if a lute string is around their necks. Monlon unleashes a series of massive vibrations against a trapped Ranma and Lychee, but her lute strings are cut by Shampoo. The two then fight, with Monlon losing. Mousse mistakes her for Shampoo, and carries her into Kirin’s tower.
Monlon’s beauty and Happosai’s overwhelming desire to see her serve as a powerful motivator, inspiring him to superhuman feats several times in the movie. When he is used as an ad hoc grappling hook to board the Seven Lucky Gods’ flying ship while supporting the rest of Team Ranma as well as Lychee and Jasmine by a rope, he is able to hang on and pull forward enough for them to board the ship. Presumably, he is also inspired likewise to hang onto the ship’s side when he was used as a grappling hook again after they were thrown off the ship. After defeating Bishamonten and destroying his castle with one of his Happo Fire-Burst bombs, he then appears fine and well when he tramples on Ebiten along with the rest of Team Ranma into Kirin’s tower.
Monlon is likely based on the god Benzaiten.
[edit] Wu
The largest of the Seven Lucky Gods, Wu does not say a single intelligble word in the movie. His skin is resistant to a barrage of bladed weapons unleashed on him by Mousse, but otherwise he does not appear to have any special abilities besides sitting on his opponents and disabling them. Wu is the guardian of the third castle gate, but forms a quick friendship with Jasmine, allowing Ranma to bypass his gate without fighting. He is likely based on the god Hotei.
[edit] Nihao My Concubine
[edit] Sarutoru
One of Prince Toma's three human-animal hybrid warriors. He appears to be the leader of the three and Toma's second in command as he is often seen trying to advise his lord, as well as being the only one Toma calls by his name. When Toma lets his men loose on the captured women, he takes Ukyo and tries to woo her until Ryoga busts in. Ukyo tricks Ryoga into fighting Sarutoru, only to suicidally supercharge the lost boy's Shishi Hokodan move, which easily beats him.
[edit] Techniques
- Shadow Ability: Sarutoru is able to create an illusion of a shadow that he is able to hide in, move over great distances quickly and attack unseen. He seems to be able to hide others with this move as well.
- Shadow Fall: Sarutoru's ultimate move, he wraps an opponent in shadows, forcing them to experience their worst nightmares. While usually an unbeatable move, it is foolishly used on Ryoga, thus supercharging the lost boy's Shishi Hokodan move-which feeds on depression.
[edit] Trivia
- Sarutoru is a monkey-man hybrid, but he hates being referred to as a monkey.
- The golden crown on his head shows that he is slightly based on Son Goku. Also, his shadow transportation illusion resembles Gou's Kinto'Un.
[edit] Prince Toma
Toma is the ruler of Togenyko Island. Because the island is situated on top of a spring that turns anyone who touches the water permanently into a man, the only way for his people to get brides is to capture them. He captures Ranma, Akane, Ukyo, Shampoo, Nabiki and Kasumi. Once there they compete to be his bride in strange contests. Toma has a number of human-animal hybrids that act as his lieutenants. He ends up choosing Akane despite Ranma-chan's best efforts because reprimands him about his treatment of the girls. Toma is a highly skilled swordsman and a master at creating illusions, but also proves to be roughly equal to Ranma in speed and basic combat techniques.
[edit] Techniques
- Illusion Sword: Toma's fighting style involves using illusions created by his sword and the sword itself to attack. These illusions include, but are not limited to: Bright flashes of light, turning nearly invisible, creating high winds, teleporting, and creating a giant peach.
- Mirror aura: Toma holds his sword in front of him and becomes transparent. Any attack that hits him while he is in this state is reflected back and hits its user.
- Mystic Illusion Chaos Strike: Toma's ultimate technique creates the illusion of a huge fiery explosion around his opponent. The perceived pain makes them pass out. However, after seeing it once, the move becomes useless against Ranma.
[edit] Trivia
- Although exclusive to the anime, a similar set of villains (Herb, Mint and Lime) who are also animal hybrids appear in the manga.
- The whole movie story seems to be based on the legend of Momotarō, as peaches (Momotaro's theme) are seen around Toma. Also, his three animal hybrids Sautaro, Toristan, and Wonton are the animals that accompanied Momotaro (a monkey, bird, and a dog).
[edit] Torristan
Torristan is Prince Toma's half-bird warrior and one of his elite fighters. He is capable of making his feathers as hard as steel and using them as daggers or shurikens. Torristan always wears a mask which hides his chicken-like face and which also makes his voice sound deeper. He kidnapped Shampoo for his bride, but Mousse arrived shortly thereafter to save her. But this proved more difficult than expected as the grueling battle nearly took Mousse's life in the process, due to Torristan's steel feathers which stabbed him continuously. As Mousse nearly reached his end, he mustered all of his remaining energy to defeat Torristan with a single punch. But in doing so, it cost him all his strength and he was soon to fall to his death. Instead, he was saved by Shampoo.
[edit] Trivia
- Torristan could be based on Mint, who is also a half-animal hybrid who utilizes daggers as his primary weapons.
[edit] Wonton
One of Toma's three animal-human hybrid henchmen, a dog. He is large and seemingly very stupid, although his effort to give Nabiki a "treasure" at her request shows he is somewhat intelligent. He only speaks with the sound "awoo", which is a dog sound, and tries to take Nabiki as his wife. He is very strong and fast and is shown repeatably dodging attacks by Tatewaki Kuno and beating him into the ground. However, he is defeated by his own stupidity as Nabiki used the "treasure" (a bone) he gave her and told him to fetch. He did so - jumping right out of a high window.
[edit] Video Game Characters
[edit] Arisa Nanjo
She was the central character in the Ranma ½ digital comic game White Orchid Serenade, the game was a combination of a video novel and a glorified Rock-Paper-Scissors game.
On a trip to China to specifically visit the Training Ground of Accursed Springs, she fell into the very same pool as Shampoo, which turns her into a cat.
After investigating numerous other victims of the curses, she decided on Ranma, and orchestrated a plot, which included the rumor of a way to reverse the curse. The rumor was true--but the process would turn the victim into a monster.
She wanted to gain Ranma as a boyfriend/husband, as she felt that no one would accept her cursed form. However, in the end, she found that a scientist that was always with her had already been in love with her. And, presumably, they lived happily every after.
[edit] Trivia
[edit] Crimson Cat Gang
A group of demon cats who kidnnaped Genma in the Ranma ½ RPG game Hidden Treasure of the Crimson Cats, also known as the Akaneko-dan in Japanese (which is a combination of one of Ranma's favorite and least favorite words), which was released on October 22, 1993.
[edit] Important Members
[edit] Kamusaru
Leader of the Crimson Cat Gang, he resembles Mao-mo-Lin, the ghost cat, except he is light purple instead of white and his bell is attached to a red coller. He was once the increadably powerful Ghost Cat King, until centurys ago he was beaten by as warrior and had his powers sealed in a magic gem called the Star Crystal, after which he was sealed in a gravestone in the God and demon graveyard, until centuries later, he was freed by a drunk Jusenkyo guide tripping over it. He forms the Akaneko-dan and seeks the three tresures that will allow him to reclaim the Star Crystal and his powers (becoming darker purple, gaining a crown, gloves and the crystal replacing his bell). By the end of the game he accomplishes this, and is almost able to beat Ranma and Co, until, using a gift from the ancient warrior, they weaken him enough to beat him for good.
[edit] Bujin
Kamusaru's right-hand man, a mysterious figure who helps the Akaneko-dan members and slows Ranma and co down at times. In the end he was revealed to be Happosai, just before fighting him, though his personality should have made that obvious.
[edit] Seiryu
Leader and member of the "Four Gods of the Akaneko-dan," the strongest fighters within the group (it should be noted he was actually stronger than Kasumaru before he regained his full power). His appearance is a suave-looking man in Blue Japanese armor. Unlike the other three, he is fought only once in the game, and actually has a sense of honor, protecting Akane from Bujin, though he has his own reasons for being with the Akaneko-dan.
[edit] Byakko
The only female in the four gods, she dresses in a skin-tight white tiger outfit and fights with her claws and female charms. Chronologically the last of the four to appear.
[edit] Suzaku
One of the Four Gods, his appearance is a scrawny-looking young man , riding a large red mechanical Pheonix named, Suzaku II (although it looks more like an emu or a giant chicken.) He brainwashes the Kuno's into serving them and occasionaly flies by to bomb Ranma and Co.
[edit] Genbu
The first, weakest, and most encountered member of the Four Gods. Hs appearance is a rather fat, middle-aged man wearing a full body turtle suit, that he uses the shell to hide various fire-arms and body slam his opponents.
[edit] Yasha
A sumo wrestler and first member of the Akaneko-dan to appear. He kidnaps Genma for unknown reasons at first (thus starting the plot of the game), before being encountered later, trying to convince Akane to join too. After Ranma beats him, he apparently gets very depressed and stops working. A running gag is he ALWAYS mispronounces the gangs name.
[edit] Rasetsume
Yasha's wife, who is stronger than him. Seeking revenge for her husband (really, she is just tired of him doing nothing but moping and playing a Super Nintindo all day). She does this by kidnapping a village elders daughter to ransom for a seal needed to get the first of the three treasures, them attacking Ranma and Co after giving it to Genbu. Her fighting style seems to be similar to Kagura from Inuyasha, but using cold wind.
[edit] Minor members
[edit] Akira and his brother
Akira and his unnamed brother are brothers to Yasha and thus brother's in law to Rasetsume (much to her scagrin). They attempt to drive people out of a small village so they can turn it into a giant Caberet. Not really fighters at all, they run to Rasetsume after Ranma threatens them.
[edit] Fujin and Raijin
A pair of brothers who guard the entrance to the area where the Akaneko-dan's HQ is located. Like the spirits they are named after, Fujin can manipulate wind and Raijin can manipulate lightning. They are beaten by Ranma and Akane fairly easily.
[edit] Others
For a while, Genma, Mousse, and all three of the Kunos were brainwashed into joining (however it seems Principal Kuno joined of his own free wiil) before Ranma beat them.
