This is a list of minor characters in the fictional Star Wars universe who are part of the Rebel Alliance.
[edit] Antilles, Raymus
Star Wars character | |
Raymus Antilles | |
---|---|
Raymus Antilles Captain of Tantive IV (ROTS) |
|
Position | Captain of Tantive IV, brother of Queen Breha |
Homeworld | Alderaan |
Species | Human |
Gender | Male |
Height | Unknown |
Affiliation | Galactic Republic, Alderaan Security Forces |
Portrayed by | Rohan Nichol (ROTS) |
Captain Raymus Antilles was the commander of the Tantive IV.
Initially, he was Senator Bail Organa's brother-in-law and chief of Security during the collapse of the Old Republic, to whom Organa gave ownership of the droids C-3PO and R2D2.
During the rise to power of the Galactic Empire Raymus helped Bail rescue beings in need. He was in command of the Tantive IV when Darth Vader and his elite 501st stormtroopers seized the ship and demanded to know where the stolen Death Star plans were being kept. Antilles, despite being strangled in Vader's grip, refused to betray the mission of delivering the plans to the Rebel Alliance, claiming that the Tantive IV was on a diplomatic mission. Vader promptly killed the man with a final squeeze of the fist and threw his body to the floor.
Contrary to some fans' speculation, in some versions of the canon this officer was not in fact Captain Antilles, just one of the officers serving under him, however the radio version of Episode IV confirmed that the man killed by Vader was Captain Antilles. While at least the radio version of Episode IV settled the ultimate fate of Captain Antilles, it is rather unlikely that he survived if at all, as the Empire would have killed or imprisoned all of the ship's surviving crew.
He has no relation to Wedge Antilles of the original trilogy, although, perhaps as an inside joke, Lucas invited Denis Lawson to play Captain Antilles in Revenge of the Sith. Lawson declined.
[edit] Cracken, Airen
Star Wars character | |
Airen Cracken | |
---|---|
|
|
Position | Head of Alliance Intelligence |
Homeworld | Contruum |
Species | Human |
Gender | Male |
Height | Unknown |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance, New Republic |
Portrayed by | None |
General Airen Cracken (born 50 BBY) is the head of Alliance Intelligence and the father of Rogue Squadron pilot Pash Cracken. On his homeworld of Contruum he formed "Cracken's Crew" to sabotage the Imperial occupation force. He later joined the Rebel Alliance where he utilized his skills to direct the special forces. He eventually was promoted to the rank of general around the time of the Battle of Endor. Later General Cracken would become the New Republic's Intelligence director commanding all official intelligence operations.
Cracken was in charge of Rogue Squadrons mission to Coruscant in advance of the invasion fleet. His agents were already on the planet to assist the Squadron as necessary (his son, Pash was with the group) and had a firm grip of the situation.
He was aware of the presence of a spy amongst Rogue Squadron, however he know that it was not Tycho Celchu who was suspected of killing Corran Horn (Horn was presumed dead at the time). Cracken allowed Celchu's trial to go on so that Director of Imperial Intelligence Ysanne Isard would continue using her spy, thinking that the New Republic was convinced of the accusations against Captain Celchu. While Isard was preoccupied with the trial, Alliance Intelligence was able to accomplish many vital operations that otherwise would have been compromised. He was still active even into the Yuuzhan Vong even though by then he was in his seventies.
He has been described as a "mechanical genius" who discovered unorthodox new ways for the Alliance to use its limited resources. While investigating the Cavrilhu Pirates' base in an asteroid belt, Skywalker rigged his blaster charge to explode- a technique that he learned from Cracken.
Airen Cracken appears in the novels Rogue Squadron , Bacta War, The Krytos Trap, Starfighters of Adumar, and Wraith Squadron in Michael A. Stackpole and Aaron Allston's Star Wars: X-Wing Series. Also, Decipher identified a middle-aged Rebel soldier as General Airen Cracken in the Endor series of their customizable card game. [1] [2] [3]
[edit] Cracken, Pash
Pash Cracken is the son of General Airen Cracken, an Alliance war hero and eventual head of Alliance Intelligence.
Pash did not quite share his father's talent for espionage, but he was a very good pilot, so the elder Cracken invented a false identity for him, and he was accepted to the Imperial Academy on Vensenor. Shortly after graduation, he and his entire fighter wing of 72 starfighters defected to the Rebel Alliance, killing a Star Destroyer in the process (no mean feat for TIE Fighters). Later, with the Alliance, he led one of the first A-Wing squadrons in the Rebel fleet.
Shortly after the Battle of Endor Captain Cracken joined the Rogue Squadron under Wedge Antilles and flew as Rogue 4. Pash at one point invented a dogfighting maneuver known as the "Cracken Twist".
During the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy, Pash Cracken was captured and imprisoned in an internment facility on Selvaris. When rescued by Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo, they ended up being sent to Caluula to destroy a yammosk the Vong had stationed there.
[edit] Crynyd, Arvel
Star Wars character | |
Arvel Crynyd | |
---|---|
Arvel Crynyd in the Battle of Endor from Return of the Jedi |
|
Position | Squadron captain |
Homeworld | Unknown |
Species | Human |
Gender | Male |
Height | Unknown |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance |
Portrayed by | Hilton McRae |
Arvel Crynyd was Green Leader at the Battle of Endor. Green Squadron was a fighter group that consisted of A-Wings and X-Wings. Towards the end of the battle his A-Wing was hit by Imperial fire and began to careen out of control. In his last moments, Crynyd managed to steer his fighter directly into the bridge of the Executor, The Flagship of the Empire's fleet, killing himself and Admiral Piett as well as the entire command crew and operations staff on the bridge. This act, coupled with the inability of crews to bring the backup bridge operational, led to the Executor to fly out of control and be pulled into the gravity field of the second Death Star resulting in its destruction, thereby stripping the Imperial fleet of its flagship as well as thousands of the Empire's best and brightest officers.
A year later the Rebels captured an Imperial Star Destroyer at the Battle of Milagro and renamed it the Crynyd in his honor. They also named an award given to fighter pilots for acts of bravery after him.[4] [3]
[edit] Darklighter, Biggs
Star Wars character | |
Biggs Darklighter | |
---|---|
Garrick Hagon as Biggs Darklighter |
|
Position | fighter pilot |
Homeworld | Tatooine |
Species | Human |
Gender | Male |
Height | Unknown |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance |
Portrayed by | Garrick Hagon |
Biggs appears in the movie A New Hope. He is Luke's childhood friend, along with a character played by Koo Stark. Luke's nickname appears to be 'Wormie'. Most of Biggs' scenes are cut from the 1977 (and 1997) versions of the film, only seen just prior to the battle of Yavin and then while in battle, in which he dies. His original scenes lend weight to Luke's feeling of isolation on Tatooine, as Biggs is slightly older and worldly, and has escaped from the small planet to better himself. Although he does not say it directly, he hints that he has been accepted into the Rebel Alliance.
The above scene is often referred to as 'The Anchorhead Scene' and is the most famous deleted scene from Star Wars. Garrick Hagon, the actor who played Biggs Darklighter, has his own website and appears to be active on the convention circuit. He, along with many others, has lobbied for the missing Star Wars scenes to either be restored or included as extras on future DVD releases. During the battle for Yavin, Biggs fought along with Luke and the rest of the rebels, piloting his own X-wing. He held out long in the battle, but his X-wing was destroyed by Darth Vader while Biggs was covering Luke's approach to the Death Star's exhaust port.
[edit] Derlin, Bren
Star Wars character | |
Bren Derlin | |
---|---|
John Ratzenberger as Bren Derlin |
|
Position | Major (Episode V) |
Homeworld | Unknown |
Species | Human |
Gender | Male |
Height | Unknown |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance, New Republic |
Portrayed by | John Ratzenberger |
Bren Derlin was a Rebel Alliance field officer assigned to the Rebel base on Hoth around the time of the Battle of Hoth. When Han Solo and Luke Skywalker were stranded in a blizzard, Derlin was the one to inform Princess Leia that the shield doors to Echo Base had to be closed for the night.
He survived Hoth and also fought at Endor, and subsequently served in New Republic Intelligence; he was promoted to Colonel before the Thrawn Offensive. By the time of the Yevetha Crisis he was a Brigadier General.
As portrayed by John Ratzenberger, the character only appears in The Empire Strikes Back. However, the NPR radio adaptation of Return of the Jedi gives him a role, as the leader of the team of Rebel troops that Han Solo brings to Endor, and, more specifically, as the one who disguises himself as a stormtrooper to cover Solo's team as they enter the Imperial bunker.
Derlin appears on a Star Wars trading card, where it is noted that "at the Mos Eisley Cantina, everybody knows his name," a reference to Cliff Clavin the mailman, John Ratzenberger's character from Cheers.
[edit] Dodonna, Jan
Star Wars character | |
Jan Dodonna | |
---|---|
Alex McCrindle as General Jan Dodonna |
|
Position | General (for the Rebel Alliance and Old Republic) |
Homeworld | Corellia |
Species | Human |
Gender | Male |
Height | 1.82 meters |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance, Galactic Republic |
Portrayed by | Alex McCrindle |
Jan Dodonna, one of the first Generals in the Rebellion's military, appeared in A New Hope, played by Alex McCrindle. Like Han Solo, Dodonna was Corellian. He was a master of strategy who had served in the Old Republic, and was a very skilled Star Destroyer captain during the Clone Wars; he was known for having revolutionized modern siege warfare. When the Republic became the Empire, Dodonna left, eventually joining the Rebellion after the Emperor ordered his death. With plans brought to him by Princess Leia and downloaded from R2-D2, Dodonna helped plan the attack on the Death Star. The data showed that the defenses of the Death Star were built around large scale attacks. He found that thermal exhaust ports on the station were vulnerable, and designed the starfighter assault that destroyed the Death Star.
Dodonna was not seen in any later film. According to the Expanded Universe fiction, he was believed killed during the evacuation of Yavin, but in truth he had been captured by Imperial forces. He was eventually sent to Lusankya, where the Imperials attempted to turn him into a sleeper agent. Dodonna spent some years in Imperial captivity, but Rogue Squadron eventually rescued all the Lusankya prisoners. From then on, Dodonna served on the New Republic council, advising the Republic in military matters with counterparts such as Adar Tallon, Pashna Starkiller, or Vanden Willard; this "Gray cadre"'s advice would prove invaluable during the events of Dark Empire and the Battle of Mon Calamari.
Behind-the-scenes information at www.starwars.com reveals that Dodonna's convoluted history was the result of unanticipated continuity errors: one Star Wars comic strip lists him as dead, but another, taking place some time later, depicts him alive and serving, and a roleplaying game sourcebook describes him as being captured at Yavin 4. Author Michael Stackpole managed to thread all three sources together via Lusankya.
Dodonna was most likely a descendant of a much earlier Dodonna, Admiral Forn Dodonna, who commands the Republic fleet against the Sith in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Dodonna's name may have been inspired by Dodona Manor, the home of 1953 Nobel Peace Prize winner George C. Marshall, who served as United States Army chief of staff during World War II and as Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense under President Harry S. Truman.
A minor character in Final Fantasy VIII was named Dodonna after the Star Wars character, but only in the Japanese version. In the English version, his name was changed to Martine.
[edit] Dodonna, Vrad
Vrad Dodonna is the son of Rebel Alliance General Jan Dodonna. During an attack on Darth Vader's new Super Star Destroyer Executor he first retreated. However after he was fired upon he made up for his cowardice by making a suicide run and rammed his ship into the Executor. This allowed Han Solo to disable the ship from the rear. However, in the end the Rebellion lost one of it best pilots. Vrad Dodonna appears in the Classic Star Wars comics. However, those comics state that Luke took over the position of Commander after Vrad's death. This contradicts The Empire Strikes Back radio dramatization which reveals that Luke assumed the title after Commander Narra died during the battle of Derra IV.
[edit] Dreis, Garven
Star Wars character | |
Garven Dreis | |
---|---|
Drewe Henley as Garven Dreis in A New Hope |
|
Position | Red Squadron Leader |
Homeworld | Unknown |
Species | Human |
Gender | Male |
Height | Unknown |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance |
Portrayed by | Drewe Henley |
During the Clone Wars, Garven Dreis served in the Rarefied Air Cavalry, where he fought alongside Anakin Skywalker during the Battle of Virujansi. Years later, he led Red Squadron against the Death Star in the Battle of Yavin. Ironically, he was shot down by Darth Vader, and killed when his X-wing crashed into the battle station's surface.
Following the Battle of Yavin, Dreis's position as Red Leader would be filled by Commander Narra, who would himself be killed in the Battle of Derra IV.
Luke Skywalker would inherit the Squadron, renaming it Rogue Squadron, and led them until the Battle of Endor, where he was succeeded as Rogue Leader by Wedge Antilles, who renamed the squadron Red Squadron in honor of Dreis and the others who died in the attack on the first Death Star.
[edit] Farlander, Keyan
Star Wars character | |
Keyan Farlander | |
---|---|
Position | Unknown |
Homeworld | Agamar |
Species | Human |
Gender | Male |
Height | Unknown |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance |
Portrayed by | Not applicable |
Keyan Farlander was an illustrious pilot with the Rebel Alliance. He worked on experimental projects such as the B-Wing with Slayn & Korpil, a starfighter manufacturer operating in the Verpine colony. In the Star Wars Expanded Universe Farlander earned the respect of Luke Skywalker and became Jedi in the New Jedi Order. He juggled his life as a Jedi with his life as a prodigious military commander, playing a pivotal role in the Battle of Coruscant as well as fighting against the Yuuzhan Vong invasion.
Farlander also appears as the protagonist and player character in the Star Wars: X-Wing flight simulator game. This is never made explicit in the game itself and the connection is revealed only in the official strategy guide.
Keyan Farlander grew up on Agamar, and was indifferent to the ways of the galactic government until Mon Mothma came to the planet to gain underground support for the Alliance during the imperial bombardment. Farlander received a copy of the A Call to Reason pamphlet, and it turned his mind to the Alliance. His hometown was destroyed and his family was killed in the Imperial assault.
He joined up, and decided the he wanted to be a starfighter pilot. As an untrained Alliance starpilot on his first mission, Keyan helped recover important Imperial documents by disabling the Imperial shuttle Talon near Turkana. He proved his incredible piloting skills there as well, and went on to become one of the Alliance's premier pilots.
He was instrumental in raids on a number of Imperial outposts, and was part of the team that fled to Yavin 4 to prepare for battle against the Death Star. While on Yavin 4, Keyan helped familiarize Luke Skywalker on the controls of the X-Wing.
It is unknown what his role was in the Battle of Endor but given that Wedge Antilles is the only pilot to have survived both Death Star attacks, he could not have been flying.
Keyan continued to serve the Alliance, and later the New Republic, as a military officer and adviser. Because of his uncanny skills, Keyan was tested by Luke Skywalker for a connection to the Force, which revealed that Keyan was possible Jedi material. He trained for many years at the Jedi praxeum on Yavin 4, and eventually earned the rank of Jedi Knight.
By the time of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy, Farlander had been promoted to General. He served under Admiral Traest Kre'fey aboard the Ralroost during the period following the Battle of Coruscant, working to implement the plans of Admirals Sovv, the late Ackbar, and Kre'fey.
[edit] Garn, Olin
Olin Garn is a Rebel pilot who aids Ace Azzameen when he first joins the Rebel Alliance. He is believed to have had relationships with Aeron Azzameen.
[edit] Gray Wing pilots
Gray Wing was one of the four main starfighter groups at the Battle of Endor. It consisted of Y-Wings and was led by Colonel Horton Salm. It suffered quick and heavy casualties. Several Y-wing pilots are seen during the briefing aboard Home One but only a few have been identified [1]
Lieutenant Telsij flew a Y-Wing in Grey Wing during the Battle of Endor. His comm-unit designation was Grey Two. He is the pilot that says "There's too many of them" after the Rebel fleet is inundated with TIEs, after they realize that "It's a trap!" His fate is unknown, but he most likely survived. On the other hand, his squadron did suffer heavy casualties early on in the battle. Decipher identified this Asian-looking Y-wing pilot as Lt. Telsij in their Death Star II series of their Star Wars Customizable Card Game. [3]
Lieutenant J'ef Hsu was a Y-Wing pilot who flew with Grey Wing in The Battle of Endor. His comm-unit designation was Grey Four. he screams out "I'm hit!" after two TIE Fighters shoot him from behind, causing his Y-Wing to crash into a Star Destroyer and killing him instantly. Decipher identified him as J'ef Hsu on his card in the Death Star II series. (Even though he has an Asian surname he was apparently played by a Caucasian actor whose name is unknown.) [3]
[edit] K-3PO
K-3PO | |

[edit] Klivian, Hobbie
[edit] Lobot
Star Wars character | |
Lobot | |
---|---|
John Hollis as Lobot in The Empire Strikes Back |
|
Position | Cloud City computer liaison-officer. |
Homeworld | Bespin |
Species | Human |
Gender | Male |
Height | 1.75 meters |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance, New Republic |
Portrayed by | John Hollis |
Lobot (born 38 BBY) is a thirty-eight-year-old cyborg and assistant to Lando Calrissian in the administration of Cloud City. He was the son of a slaver and then a slave himself. At the age of fifteen, space pirates killed his father and captured him. Two years later he escaped, and fled to Cloud City where he was a thief until he was caught. However, then-Baroness Administrator Ellisa Shallence decided to give the young man a choice: become the city's first computer liaison or be incarcerated. He chose the former. He was then fitted with a cyborg implant that wrapped around the back of his head. His brain is connected to a computer which, while allowing him to communicate directly with the city's central computer core, renders him seemingly mute. This is actually a conscious decision on Lobot's part, as he feels "direct input is more efficient" (see Before the Storm, book 1 of the Black Fleet series). Eventually, a young smuggler named Lando Calrissian won Cloud City from then-Baron Administrator Raynor in a sabacc game. During Calrissian's administration, Lobot saved Lando's life (and career) when a rogue droid named EV-9D9 planted bombs throughout the city. He also stayed behind after Lando (and his new Rebel friends) fled when the Empire took over the city. He would later reappear during The Black Fleet Crisis trilogy and in the Young Jedi Knights series. [5] [1]
His only appearance in the Star Wars movies is in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, where he is played by John Hollis (IMDb entry).
[edit] Moor, Kasan
[edit] Mothma, Mon
Mon Mothma (48 BBY-24 ABY) was the Senator of Chandrilla in the waning days of the Old Republic and leader of the Rebel Alliance and New Republic.
Her mother, Tanis Mothma, was the governor of Chandrilla, and her father was an arbiter-general for the Republic. At the age of 21 (27 BBY) she was elected to represent the Bormea Sector in the Galactic Senate, becoming the youngest Senator ever to serve (a record that would later be broken by Leia Organa, future apprentice and colleague of Mothma).
As a Senator, Mothma was a proponent of the rights of local systems. She was also friends with fellow senators Bail Organa and Padmé Amidala. Just before the Clone Wars, she became a member of the Loyalist Committee along with fellow senators Bail Organa, Padmé Amidala, Fang Zar, and other politicians. She later signed the Petition of 2000, along with many other senators, in an effort to request that Chancellor Palpatine reduce his power. The Delegation of 2000 presented the petition to Chancellor Palpatine, but the Dark Lord silenced Fang Zar when he tried to speak.
[edit] Commander Narra
Commander Narra was the Commander of Rogue Squadron before the Battle of Hoth. The pilots of the X-wing fighter group Renegade Flight called him "The Boss" during the Battle of Yavin. After Red Leader Garven Dreis was killed in the attack on the Death Star, Narra assumed the title of commander. He was also the Leader of Renegade Flight which shortly before the Battle of Hoth escorted and protected a Rebel Alliance convoy that was transporting much needed supplies to Echo Base on Hoth. The Rebel convoy and its fighter escort(lead by Narra a.k.a Renegade Leader) was near Derra IV when they were suddenly attacked by several squadrons of TIE fighters. The convoy and its escort, Renegade Flight were annihilated. After Narra's death during the massacre at Derra IV, Luke Skywalker assumed the rank of Commander shortly before the Battle of Hoth. K-3PO, the white protocol droid seen in the command center in Echo Base belonged to the late Commander Narra. Narra appears in the radio dramatization of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. [1] [6]
[edit] Nunb, Nien
Star Wars character | |
Nien Nunb | |
---|---|
Nien Nunb in Return of the Jedi |
|
Position | Co-Pilot |
Homeworld | Sullust |
Species | Sullustan |
Gender | Male |
Height | 1.6 Meters |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance, New Republic |
Portrayed by | Kipsang Rotich / Mike Quinn |
Nien Nunb is an accomplished pilot from the planet Sullust who became an integral member of the Rebel Alliance, eventually co-piloting the Millennium Falcon alongside Lando Calrissian in the destruction of the Empire's second Death Star.
Nien typifies Sullustan physiology; extremely sensitive ears, large black eyes allowing sight at low light levels, very advanced spatial-reasoning and proprioception abilities (which might explain the Sullustan's reputation for producing skilled pilots). He is however, rather tall for a Sullustan. Nien grew up in the cool, but humid settlements built underground to avoid the volcanic surface.
Many Sullustans took up employment with the megacorporation SoruSuub, working within the various branches spread throughout the galaxy. Eventually SoruSuub established itself as the de-facto government of Sullust. During the imperial era the corporation issued a number of sweeping statements in support of the Empire and its policies, despite this, some Sullustans, including Nien Nunb, chose to support the Rebel Alliance.
Nunb's own vessel was an older light freighter called the Sublight Queen, which he used for trade runs for the SoruSuub Corporation. It was during several of these runs that Nunb encountered and formed a friendship with Lando Calrissian.
When SoruSuub solidified its support of the Empire and took control of the Sullustan government, Nien Nunb decided that he could no longer remain on his homeworld and support the Rebel Alliance in safety and so terminated his employment with SoruSuub, who responded with blaster fire, and fled Sullust.
Nunb had his revenge on SoruSuub, however, much to the corporation's regret. He began to employ his smuggling skills in direct opposition to them by publicly robbing SoruSuub consignments and then shipping them to the rebellion. As Nunb's reputation began to spread, several other Sullustans followed his lead and made the decision to leave Sullust to join the rebellion. Before much time had passed, SoruSuub found itself besieged with pirates in support of the Rebel Alliance. With SoruSuub facing low morale among the workers, they found that more and more Sullustans were beginning to view these pirates as "folk heroes".
SoruSuub decided to put a stop to a potentially volatile situation and called on the Empire for help, a full complement of Star Destroyers was dispatched to Sullust. In the battle that resulted most of the outlaws lost their vessels, but Nunb (and others) still managed to escape, deciding to sign up with the rebellion as full-time recruits.
The Rebel Alliance, led by Mon Mothma, made the decision to attack the new Death Star that the Empire was constructing around the forest moon of Endor. This second Death Star was incomplete but was protected by a shield generator located on the forest moon. In a plan devised by General Crix Madine and Admiral Ackbar, a team led by Han Solo would land on the moon to take out the shield generator, while a group of fighter pilots led by Gold Leader Lando Calrissian fly into the center of the Death Star through the narrow superstructure and destroy the main reactor. Because of his natural piloting abilities, Nien Nunb was picked by Lando Calrissian to be co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon in the assault against the Death Star II.
Shortly after this victory, Nien Nunb was to co-pilot the Falcon once again, this time alongside Han Solo on a mission that would take them to a former imperial prison planet. Once they arrived here, the plan was to rescue the two Venerated Ones from the Metalsmith's Guild of Vandelheim, but upon effecting such a rescue, they discovered their two targets to be a teenage girl and a small boy. However, upon arriving at Vandelheim, Nunb and Solo found that they had flown the Falcon into an imperial asteroid trap. Han managed to pilot through the asteroids and land the Falcon on Vandelheim and delivered the two children. In doing so, they discovered the guildmaster to be an imperial sympathizer and Han was forced to retreat to the Falcon where he discovered that Nien had been captured by a stormtrooper. Han, the two children, and Nien managed to escape, killing both the stormtrooper and the guildmaster in the process. When more Stormtroopers arrived and attacked, Han and the children were saved by Nien who was wielding one of Chewbacca's blasters. The Falcon managed to take off, but in space they were confronted by Admiral Modur aboard his Star Destroyer. Han and Nien managed to defeat Modur, saving a line of drone barges containing valuable ores and metals in the process which had been destined for alliance shipyards.
Later in life, Nien put his career in jeapordy by helping Solo bluff the Godoans after they had refused an ailing Lando Calrissian life-saving treatment. Lando had contracted his affliction whilst assisting the Godoans and so Han bluffed that if they did not heal him, he would call in a military strike on the Godoan cities. Nien, Wedge Antilles and various other pilots supported Han Solo despite the fact that Admiral Ackbar objected to it. Fortunately for Han, the Godoans were not willing to call his bluff and so treated Lando immediately.
When the Alliance leaders eventually decided to abandon their temporary headquarters on the forest moon of Endor, they came to expect an attack by a race of aggressive aliens called the N'Gai. Han was not able to fly the Falcon during this time and so Nien and Chewbacca manned the ship during a battle above Endor against the N'Gai.
Seven years following the battle of Endor and the destruction of the second Death Star, Lando began to plan on re-opening the spice mines on the planet Kessel, for which he had teamed up with Mara Jade Skywalker and various other members of the Rebel Alliance to spread the spice throughout the galaxy. Rather than have the spice mined using the slaves that both the Empire and the Moruth Doole had used, Lando planned on hiring Nien Nunb to run the installation with a compliment of droids to work the mines. Nunb agreed and became an administrator in the profitable mining industry, but is still ready for service with the Alliance.
[edit] In popular culture
- Nien Nunb made a cameo appearance on The Venture Bros. two part season finale "Showdown at Cremation Creek". Though never mentioned by name he is summoned from a Star Wars trading card. After a discussion about euthanizing him in part 1 of the episode he eventually flies them on the X-1 to rescue the Venture family in part 2. Unfortunately, he crashes the jet into the Monarch's cocoon and is ejected through the windshield, killing him.
- Nien Nunb made a cameo appearance in the Family Guy episode Airport '07 as Quagmire's copilot.

[edit] Porkins, Jek
Star Wars character | |
Jek Porkins | |
---|---|
|
|
Position | Red Six in Red Squadron |
Homeworld | Bestine IV |
Species | Human |
Gender | Male |
Height | Unknown |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance |
Portrayed by | William Hootkins |
Pilot Red Six in Red Squadron in the Battle of Yavin, Jek Porkins was the first Rebel pilot shown to die in the battle. He earned the nickname "Piggy," a name passed on to the Gamorrean pilot Voort SaBinring of Wraith Squadron. Jek, like so many others, gained experience flying in the cockpit of a T-16 Skyhopper.
He was a member of the Y-wing Squadron Tierfon Yellow Aces with Wes Janson. When Janson was down with a seemingly ill-timed case of Hesken Fever, Jek took his place in Red Squadron and transferred to Yavin 4, where he died when his ship malfunctioned while he and Biggs were attacking the gun towers. One of the towers exploded, and Porkins' fighter was hit by an EM pulse from the explosion, knocking out several of his instruments. Porkins refused to pull out of the fight. A laser cannon battery that he missed (owing to his tracking instruments not working) soon locked onto him and shot his fighter down. Porkins was the only Rebel to fall to the Death Star's fixed guns, which were unable to keep up with the other, fully-functioning Rebel ships. Should he have heeded the warning of the more experienced pilots, he might have lived; however, due to his courage and kamikaze mentality, he would rather kill two stormtroopers standing on the outside of the Death Star than move his X-Wing anywhere but towards a giant moon-sized battle station. The odds of surviving, had he pulled out of the fight, a simple operation, were 6 to 1 (there were a number of TIE fighters in front of Porkins that may have given chase and downed his damaged craft.)
[edit] Qrygg, Ooryl
Star Wars character | |
Ooryl Qrygg | |

From Michael Stackpole's X-Wing series |
|
Position | Rogue Squadron pilot |
Homeworld | Gand |
Species | Gand |
Gender | Male |
Height | 1.6 meters |
Affiliation | Rebel Alliance |
Portrayed by | none |
Ooryl Qrygg is the wingmate of Corran Horn in the X-wing series of novels. He is Gand. Through most of the series, Ooryl commonly refers to himself in the third person, as is the Gand custom of name reduction, but once he makes a name for himself, he begins to refer to himself as "I" and "me". He was involved in the battles of Hensara III and Chorax. Gands require only a fraction of sleep that humans do, therefore he was wide awake when stormtroopers struck Rogue Squadron's secret base on Talasea. He and Corran Horn alerted the other Rogues and the fight began. Qrygg led a strike team in the successful mission at Vladet, but also took part in the disastrous first mission to Borleias in which his X-Wing was destroyed. Ooryl ejected in time but his right arm below the elbow was severed by a piece of shrapnel from his starfighter's S-foils. Fortunately, his arm regenerated in time for him to participate in the Squadron's covert operations on Coruscant and was vital to its success. After his group gained access to Subsidiary Computer Center Number Four, they were unable to enter for it was flooded with Imperial nerve gas Fex-M3d. However, because Gands do not breathe oxygen he was able to access the room and retrieve gas masks inside allowing the others to follow. From there they were able to realign the OSETS (Orbital Solar Energy Transfer Satellite) that caused the nearby reservoir to boil off causing thunderstorms, and helped bring down the planet's defense shields. The Elders of Gands sent three ruetsavii to chronicle his actions. Eventually, he was declared a janwuine for his heroism at Thyferra, granting him the right to refer to himself in first person "I" (a true honor among the Gand). He appears in the books of the X-Wing series written by Michael Stackpole. [1][6]

While Horton Salm (born 36 BBY) was a minor character in the movies, he made several appearances in Michael Stackpole's novels. Salm was a Y-wing pilot in the Battle of Endor. He was forty years old at the time, and was leader of Aggressor squadron.
He is seen in Return of the Jedi for a single shot, in the cockpit of his Y-wing at the start of the Battle of Endor. He survived the battle, and is eventually promoted to the rank of general. He was a colonel during the battle.
In the X-wing novels, Horton Salm was in charge of Defender Wing, although not as a pilot. By the time of the novels, Salm was far too old to fly in combat; even before the battle of Endor he was into his forties. Salm knew that the battle of Endor would be his last, and succeeded in convincing the Rebel leadership to let him fly. Salm repeatedly ran into the members of Rogue Squadron, and he did not get along very well with Wedge Antilles, the squadron's leader. [1] [3] Salm and Antilles reconciled after the disastrous Battle of Borleias, when Salm and his Y-wing pilots defied an order to withdraw by Salm's long-time rival, General Laryn Kre'fey, and provided vital assistance to Rogue Squadron. Salm, however, insisted that Antilles should report him to Admiral Ackbar for disobeying orders.

During Ysanne Isard's return, Sei'lar was presumed killed at Distna, but in fact survived, and with the help of Booster Terrik, decided to go undercover to work towards changes in Bothan society. She set up schools on numerous Bothan outpost worlds, and is believed by fans to be responsible for the training of Admiral Traest Kre'fey.
