Large financial-services conglomerates combine commercial banking and investment banking, and sometimes insurance. Such combinations were illegal in the United States prior to passage of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999. The name of the bank's investment-bank affiliate is in parentheses where applicable.
