List of character fusions in Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One of the many interesting factors Japanese manga/anime series Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is the ability of the main character to fuse with his strange, non-humanoid companions into beings more powerful than the originals, yet completely and totally different from the component forms. This section will go in depth into the various fusions in this series between Bo-bobo and other characters.

Contents

[edit] Introduction

One of the main concepts of many shonen manga from the beginning is the idea of several different characters, each of different backgrounds and ideals, coming together to fight against a common foe. However, there are times when two or more characters must literally "come together", uniting in order to become stronger and stop something more powerful than the individual parts. This is the concept known as fusion and is a staple in certain shonen series. Most famously, the shonen series Dragon Ball Z utilized the fusion concept, with characters such as Vegetto and Gotenks being the final result of various fusion methods such as Potara Earrings or the Fusion Dance. Although the characters are united as one, the composite keeps many of the attributes, both in power and personality, of the two or more components.

Because of its nature of being a shonen manga/anime series, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo incorporates fusion as one of the many power-ups the main characters can utilize in battle. However, due to the satirical and parodying nature of this shonen series, the fusions are slightly different than a typical series. Bo-bobo, the main human character, is the main receiver of all fusions, with the component parts coming from various "non-humanoid characters", including the "orange, star-shaped being" Don Patch, the "blue jelly being" Tokoro Tennosuke (dub: Jelly Jiggler) and the small white mascot Dengaku Man. When Bo-bobo fuses with one of them (or more than one on occasion), they usually enter his body through an opening: usually through his mouth, but occasionally through his openable golden afro or (on one occasion) through his pants. When the fusion occurs, the final result is usually nothing like either Bo-bobo or whomever he has fused with. The new being may have a different personality from the two components (serious instead of being crazy), have a different appearance nothing like either of them (which is usually human, but has nothing in its appearance to suggest it came from Bo-bobo or the other character component) or may even have a completely different gender. Furthermore, there can be occasions where one component may change the direction of the possible fusion, making Bo-bobo transform into something completely different from what was expected. It is this unpredictability regarding the fusion concept that makes these combined forms as memorable as the characters they originally come from.

[edit] BoboPatch

BoboPatch as seen in the anime
BoboPatch as seen in the anime
  • Original Reading: ボボパッチ
  • Dub Name: BoboPatch
  • Character Used: Bobobo and Don Patch
  • First Appearance (manga): Chapter 31
  • First Appearance (anime): Episode 16
  • Means of Fusion: Don Patch transforms into a small candy, which Bo-bobo eats, absorbs, and then uses to transform.
  • Length of Fusion: One Minute
  • Appearance: Has long green hair with a bit covering one eye, golden tiara, blue armor and a long cape with long, poofy pants but on shonenjump.com's online manga he looks different. It appears as though BoboPatch is drawn in much finer detail than most of the series' art.
  • Personality: Unlike the goofy nature of both Bo-bobo and Don Patch, BoboPatch is extremely serious. At one point, during a battle with him, Tokoro Tennosuke tries to engage in a Hajike-skipping attack to draw him out of the open, but BoboPatch stops him from doing such insanity!
  • Fighting Techniques:
    • Don Patch Sword: BoboPatch draws out a large green onion as his offensive weapon. (similar to the one Don Patch uses)
    • Hanage Shinken (Fist of the Nosehair): Like Bo-bobo, BoboPatch uses his nosehair abilities to finish off his opponents. His chosen attack, Chemistry (Hair as Strong as Steel) , sends out several nosehairs at once to slice his enemy apart and for some reason have a rain of cherry blossoms around him.

note: After the first time they fused, Bo-Bobo and Don Patch have tried countless times to transform into Bobo Patch. However, they have failed to do so because either Jelly Jiggler jumps down Bo-Bobo's mouth, or they are kids, or many other things.

[edit] Incomplete BoboPatch

  • Original Name: 不完全ボボ
  • Dub Name: Incomplete BoboPatch

  • First Appearance (Anime): Episode 37
  • Means Of Fusion: Bo-bobo and Don Patch try to turn into BoboPatch while fighting Nightmare in the "Children Area" of Holy Guacamole Land. But this fusion is a tad...different.
  • Length Of Fusion: One minute
  • Appearance: Same as the other BoboPatch, except extremely sloppily drawn
  • Personality: Same as the other BoboPatch and both eyes are seen.
  • Fighting Techniques:
    • Magic Sword Excalibur: This is Incomplete BoboPatch's weapon, which is a badly-drawn sword. (At least it's not an onion.)
    • The Descent Of The Sacred Legend To Earth: The technique Incomplete BoboPatch uses to defeat Nightmare; it seems to be performed through hand motions.
  • Used Against: Nightmare

[edit] Shinsetsu BoboPatch

  • Original Reading:?????

  • First Appearance (Manga): Shinsetsu Chapter 17
  • First Appearance (Anime): Never appeared in anime

[edit] BoboPatchnosuke

BoboPatchiggler in the anime
BoboPatchiggler in the anime
  • Original Reading:ボボパッチの助
  • Character Used: Bobobo, Don Patch, and Jelly Jiggler
  • Dub Name: BoboPatchiggler
  • First Appearance (manga): Chapter 83
  • First Appearance (anime): Episode 32
  • Means of Fusion: Like BoboPatch, Bo-bobo eats Don Patch as candy. But then, as his mouth remains agape while powering up, Tennosuke (dub: Jelly Jiggler) sneaks himself down Bo-bobo's throat, allowing him to absorb both powers within and transforming him into a more powerful being.
  • Length of Fusion: One minute (maybe unlimited in Majide Time)
  • Appearance: Mid-length purple hair standing upright, pale skin, long cape with immense shoulder guards, golden armored body and gloves.
  • Personality: Although with the power of three Hajikelists within, BoboPatchnosuke seems just as serious as BoboPatch. However, some of his actions appear a bit more ridiculous than a powerful, serious warrior should hold, such as the usage of strange gestures and battle tactics against opponents as well as riding a bicycle during his most ultimate attack.
  • Fighting Techniques:
    • Tanaka Sword (Happy Man Merciless Sword): Although it appears like a regular sword at first, it has the appearance of a human head at its edge. BoboPatchnosuke uses the Flash Tanaka Slash (Brand of the Happy Man) to smash the sword right into opponents and give them the imprint of this figure.
    • Majide Time: BoboPatchnosuke's most powerful and infamous attack, it transforms its entire surroundings into a space-like dimension completely controlled by the fused warrior. In it, the rules of Majide apply, where the strange becomes common and grows more powerful with each exclamation of Majide!? (dub: Are you serious!?) by those trapped within, and yet they are always compelled to say it. All matters of time and space have no meaning in this world, only Majide.
      • MAJIDE (Majide Metamorphosis): An advanced ability done within Majide Time, BoboPatchnosuke inserts Majide inside every piece of his opponents, forcing them to reveal their most bizarre (and possibly true) serious secrets.
    • Matsuge Shinken (Fist of the Eyelash): Unlike Bo-bobo or any of his other fusions, BoboPatchnosuke's ultimate technique involves the manipulation of his eyelashes, such as in the case of Matsuge Shinken Forever, where he lashes at his opponents with them while riding a bicycle away from them.

Games Only

    • Matsuge Shinken Next: Although claiming to be Matsuge Shinken, this is a combination attack of the Tanaka Sword and Majide, used against Lambada after a special BoboPatchnosuke fusion through a video game.
  • Used Against: The Three Civilizations, Lambada

Note: in U.S. dub, Bobopatchiggler’s voice cycles between those of Bo-bobo, Don Patch, and Jelly Jiggler. It is unknown what voice is used in the Japanese version.

[edit] Denbo-Chan

Denbo in the anime
Denbo in the anime
  • Original Reading: 田ボ
  • Dub Name: Denbo
  • Character Used: Bobobo and Dengakuman
  • First Appearance (manga): Chapter 117
  • First Appearance (anime): Episode 48
  • Means of Fusion: While preparing to fuse with Don Patch into BoboPatch, J uses his Kurotaiyō Shinken(Super Fist of the Black Sun: Black Flame Teleportation) to teleport Dengaku Man in the way. Don Patch hits Dengaku Man, who promptly glides away...and into Bo-bobo's pants.
  • Length of Fusion: Six Hours (Five Hours in dub)
  • Appearance: Blonde hair going down her back before splitting into two separate braids, a magical girl outfit complete with blue blouse with exposed mid-driff, blue mini-skirt and go-go boots, wing shaped barettes and a heart shoulder guard on her left shoulder.
  • Personality: Like the magical girl-styled heroine they've become, Denbo has a cheerful, optimistic attitude and is always trying to make people happy. But while she does seem slightly air-headed, she is prone to fits of violence whenever things don't go her way and takes them out on the nearest opponent. For some strange reason, she also has the ability to speak Korean!
  • Fighting Techniques:
    • Nunchucks: A gift from her father of the Ijutal House (merely seen as a magical star). While Denbo does not see herself worthy of them at first, she actually can use them with great ease and pleasure! She is even seen with a completely different personality whenever she wields them!
    • ONE SONG Museum: An "excellently secret" Hanage Shinken attack, Denbo uses it to unleash a dimension similar to a Japanese music program. Those who sing while inside this world have everything they are singing about instantly come to life. (similar to the video backgrounds used for karaoke) The power of the music is measured by a special meter: the further it is filled, the more powerful the effect of the songs in this world are!
    • Hanage Shinken: Like Bo-bobo, Denbo can use nosehair attacks. Her special technique, Holy Radical Ceremony (Super Fist of the Nosehair: Special Nostril Missle), unleashes a powerful double-stream nosehair attack gathered from her singing power within ONE SONG Museum!

Note: Coincidentally, Denbo is actually similar in appearance and personality to Bo-bobo's older sister: Bububu-bu Bu-bubu. It is unknown how or why Bo-bobo would turn into his sister with Dengaku Man's help.

[edit] Super Denbo-Chan

  • Original Reading: スーパー田
  • Dub Name:?????
  • First Appearance (manga): Chapter 177
  • First Appearance (anime): Episode 76
  • Means of Fusion: After the Three Sacks fuse together through their "Sanbukuro Yamiken" (Dark Fist of Three Sacks) into a more powerful form, Bo-bobo (in his "super form") decides to use a fusion to handle this. After a fight with Don Patch and Tennosuke into getting inside his afro, Dengaku Man wins and leads to Bo-bobo to becoming a more powerful Denbo...
  • Length of Fusion: Unknown
  • Appearance: Similar to the original Denbo, with slight adaptations. Her wing hairclips are now double and she now adorns a longer skirt with hearts on it.
  • Personality: Same as the original Denbo
  • Fighting Techniques:
    • Denbo Dream Picture-Book Paradise: A special technique used by Denbo on her opponent that summons a magical children's picture book in order to bring her opponents to peace. Similar to an activity book, Denbo forces her victims to go through one strange puzzle or activity after another. For each one her opponent gets wrong or does not do with enough time, super-deformed Denbo servants punish the player on her behalf!
    • Emerald Heart: A new power Denbo receives from a mysterious person during the fight against the fused form of the Three Sacks. It begins as charged green energy in her palms, and then erupts into several bolts of green lightning!

However, inside the "control center", Don Patch took out Bo-bobo's controllers and then switches the name of the fusion around since he saw himself as stronger! The resulting fusion turns out completely different from BoboPatch...
  • Length of Fusion: One Minute
  • Appearance: A tall male being who wears a long light-blue jacket open at the bottom with torn sleeves and the "sun" symbol of Don Patch on them. He also wears dark-blue poofy pants and silver-tipped boots, accompanied by gloves that alternate between the two blue shades of the rest of his outfit, and has a small shoulder guard on his left shoulder. His hair appears like a cross between a Super Saiyan with the red-shaded outer-highlights of Yugi Mutou.
  • Personality: An extremely serious individual, PatchBobo immediately understands the time limit of his own existence and makes his main priority to attack the enemy to bring his battle to a quick, victorious end. However, due to the more equal nature of Bo-bobo and Don Patch working together, the two can end up arguing over battle tactics, leading to them wasting as much of that minute and possibly leading this powerful being to break apart without finishing its battle!
  • Fighting Techniques:
    • Material Wiggin' Fusion: Although this is PatchBobo's only attack means, it is an extremely powerful ability involving the fusion of two objects or people into something new that can be used for battle! By placing his left hand on one thing and his second hand on another, he is able to fuse them together into a completely new thing that he can use to his advantage.
      • Lotus Root Gun & Konnyaku Bullets: A fusion of lotus root and konnyaku, creating a gun from the vegetable that fires the edible bullets.
      • Lightning Spaghetti Yo-yo: A fusion of wheat noodles and garlic, a yo-yo that can attack and wrap itself around an opponent. The garlic, when inside an opponent, can also be used for an explosive Garlic Bomber!
      • Sugarcane Saber: A combination of the Don Patch Sword and the Magical Blade of the Radish, this "Holy Devil Supreme Control Sword" is wielded by PatchBobo after an attempt with the other two swords leads to both being sliced. It is with this particularly powerful weapon that he attacks Jeda.
      • Ice-Bullet Gun: After fusing together Jelly Jiggler and an ice rink, PatchBobo jumps up and punches his ally, allowing a stream of ice bullets to emerge from his mouth.
      • Flying Picnic Brigade!: Fusing a bento lunchbox and a propeller, he creates a fighting force of flying food such as onigiri and fried shrimp!
      • Jedaoh (tentative name): PatchBobo puts together both Jeda the Wind God with partner Haigaou, creating a weird hybrid that forces Jeda's face on the smaller creature...and forces weird hairs on top of their wind scythe!
      • Megaspark Hand Gun: Bringing together an apple and a roll of toilet paper, he fires fruit at his opponent while unleashing the scroll of paper that surrounds him.
      • Victory Flying Crash: PatchBobo fuses Jelly Jiggler with an iron mace, turning it into a huge catapault throwing his jelly ally at the enemy.
      • Denjiggler: The first fusion unleashed by PatchBobo against Byakkō, he brings together both Jelly Jiggler and Dengaku Man, creating a force bringing together tokoroten and dengaku...yet with a more powerful punch
      • Detrite Orange Cannon: Bringing together a syringe and an orange, PatchBobo creates a cannon that can unleash a stream of orange juice that makes people nicer.
      • Hard Pineapple: Bringing together two pineapples, he uses it as a blunt object to smash against enemies' faces.
      • Chopping Mild Denjiggler: Starting to run low on ideas, PatchBobo brings Denjiggler and a rubber band, making a Deniggler fist that has the band wrapped around it in order to hold it down!
      • Long Green Onion Ball Genocide: As Don Patch and Bo-bobo go crazy with Byakkō remaining resistant, they stuff Denjiggler with fifty green onions, then stab their opponent with it!
      • Mega Energy Hard Slasher: Fusing an umbrella and a small hammer, PatchBobo creates what should be a hard blunt umbrella..but still breaks easily at the stem.
    • Fist of Nosehair: Although PatchBobo does have Hanage Shinken skills like Bo-bobo, it remains connected with his "Material Wiggin' Fusion" abilities. His key attack is Double King Nosehair, allowing for the "fusion" of two nosehairs turning both of them into...King Nosehair!?
    • A Mango: At one point, not having any idea what to fuse it with, PatchBobo smashes a mango into Byakkō as his weapon!
  • Used Against: Jeda the Wind God, Raparapa, Hagoisu

  • Length of Fusion: 1 Minute
  • Appearance: A powerful, humanoid male warrior wearing a pair of pants and a long jacket. His hair is extremely long and spikey, similar to Dragon Ball's Super Saiyan 3 form. Hajike is a prominent part of this fusion, with the words "Hajike Soul" written on his left shoulder and "No Hajike no Life" on his jacket. [edit] Adult Woman (Yokohama Junko)

  • First Appearance (anime): Never Appeared in Anime
  • Means of Fusion: Shigeki X, a powerful Hair Kingdom general, traps Bo-bobo and Don Patch in an X-shaped dimension where they should have been killed from absorbing the power of the "X". Somehow, the two of them not only turn the "X" dimension into an "O" dimension, they choose to fuse inside it as well. Due to the rare special circumstances of the fusion such as being trapped in a strange extradimensional space, it creates neither BoboPatch nor PatchBobo but someone more powerful...and completely different...

      • Adult Stair Case: Creating a long stair case surrounded by strange faces, it allows anyone that climbs them to "become an adult" (though in Tennosuke's case, he becomes a business owner). The staircase also purifies the body from certain attacks (such as Beauty's Shigeki" infection) by making them a little more adult.
      • OTONA²: An immense whirlwind filled with salarymen is created, forcing anyone trapped inside to be carried away by them!
      • Adult Drop: Junko's most powerful attack: latching herself on top of her opponent, she spins while flying upwards, perfectly aligning herself to her defeated opponent so both are in the kanji for "Otona"! (大人)
