The X-Men are a team of fictional comic book mutant superheroes, as published by Marvel Comics. A sign * beside the name will denote a current member of the team and a slash (/) will denote codenames in chronological order.

Cyclops* Scott Summers X-Men vol. 1 #42 (1968, back-up story) First of the team's founding recruits and longtime field leader. Currently co-headmaster of the Xavier Institute (alongside Emma Frost) and leader of one of the three X-Men squads. Widower of Jean Grey Summers.
Powers: Optic blasts continuously shoot out of eyes, energy absorption.
Iceman* Robert Drake X-Men vol. 1 #46 (1968, back-up story) The second and the youngest of the team's founding members. Active as a member of Rogue's team.
Powers: Potential Omega level energy manipulation, usual use as ice and cold control, creation of ice structures, and "living" ice form.
Archangel Warren Worthington III X-Men vol. 1 #56 (1969, back-up story) Xavier's third recruit into the team's original roster, and the only founding member to act as a costumed hero prior to joining the X-Men. Inactive as of X-Men vol. 2 #157, currently head of the charity, "Mutantes Sans Frontières."
Powers: Flight through the use of feathered wings on his back and hollow bones like that of a bird, eagle-like vision allowing him accurate views from high altitudes, blood possessed of contact healing properties.
Beast* Dr. Henry McCoy X-Men vol. 1 #53 (1969, back-up story) Xavier's fourth recruit into the team's original lineup. Currently serves as both a member of Cyclops's squad and as the team's medical doctor and biologist.
Powers: Superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, enhanced senses, ambidexterity with hands and feet, minor pheromone manipulation, felinoid form, blue fur, night vision, claws, wall climbing.
Phoenix Jean Grey-Summers X-Men vol. 1 #1 (1963)
as Marvel Girl
Fifth and final recruit into the team's founding roster, although her tutelage by Xavier predates the team's inception. Originally dies in Uncanny X-Men #137. Killed by Kuan-Yin Xorn in New X-Men vol. 2 #150 (2003), later resurrected by the Phoenix Force in X-Men: Phoenix: Endsong. Currently inhabits the White-Hot Room with other incarnations of the Phoenix Force.
Powers at time of death: Telekinesis, telepathy, flight through telekinesis. As the template of the Phoenix force she was able to manipulate cosmic energy as well as manipulate objects on a molecular scale.
1960s recruits
Mimic Calvin Rankin X-Men vol. 1 #27 (1966). Blackmailed his way into membership; first member to be expelled by Xavier in X-Men vol. 1 #29; possibly the first non-mutant member of the team, his status as a mutant has been disputed.
Powers: Copy powers, skills and knowledge. During his tenure with the X-Men, he permanently absorbed properties of each of their powers, thereby gaining telepathy, telekinesis, dexterity and strength, optic blasts, ice generation, and wings.
Changeling Kevin Sidney X-Men vol. 1 #40 (1968) Impersonated Professor X at Xavier's request in X-Men vol. 1 #40 (1968 (behind the scenes), died while impersonating Xavier in X-Men vol. 1 #42 (1968) making him the first X-Man to die.
Powers: Shape shifting, and minor telepathy and telekinesis.
Polaris* Lorna Dane X-Men vol. 1 #60 (1969)
as Lorna Dane
Havok's on/off girlfriend. Her personality has undergone a dark change after she viewed the deaths of several million mutants on the island of Genosha. Revealed to be the daughter of Magneto. Currently depowered after M-Day: Decimation; active as Magnetrix in X-Men: The Hidden Years #3 (2000; a retcon); active as Polaris in X-Men vol. 1 #97 (1976). Quit in X-Men vol. 2 #179 (2006); Revealed as Pestilence in X-Men vol. 2 #185, returned to Professor X's team in Uncanny X-Men #475.
Powers: Manipulation of magnetic fields.
Havok* Alexander Summers X-Men vol. 1 #65 (1970). Brother of Cyclops, currently on Professor X's team.
Powers: Absorb cosmic energy and shoot out plasma.
Xavier's secret team

While the original X-Men were still captives of Krakoa, Charles Xavier made his first attempt at a rescue using students from Moira MacTaggert's Muir-MacTaggert Research Center. This was not shown until a flashback in X-Men: Deadly Genesis #4 (2006), however, through retroactive continuity this places them as members of the X-Men previous to Giant Sized X-Men #1 (1975)

Vulcan Gabriel Summers X-Men: Deadly Genesis #4 (2006) Originally a student of Moira MacTaggert, made an X-Man to help save the original X-Men; the third Summers's brother. MIA until recently when he attacked the X-Men and kidnapped Cyclops and Marvel Girl.
Powers: Omega-level energy manipulation.
Petra Petra Kristensen X-Men: Deadly Genesis #4 (2006) Originally a student of Moira MacTaggert, made an X-Man to help save the original X-Men. Killed in action.
Powers: Earth manipulation.
Darwin* Armando Muñoz X-Men: Deadly Genesis #4 (2006) Originally a student of Moira MacTaggert, made an X-Man to help save the original X-Men. Current member of Professor X's team.
Powers: Reactive evolution.
Sway Suzanne Chan X-Men: Deadly Genesis #4 (2006) Originally a student of Moira MacTaggert, made an X-Man to help save the original X-Men. Killed in action.

Nightcrawler* Kurt Wagner Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) Currently on Professor X's team; son of Mystique
Powers: Teleportation, ability to stick on walls, prehensile tail, blue fur, light absorption field.
Wolverine* Logan / James Howlett Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) Arguably the team's most iconic member. Currently a member of Cyclops's team and the Avengers.
Powers: Heightened senses, healing factor, adamantium skeleton and foot long retractable adamantium claws.
Banshee Sean Cassidy Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) Former co-leader of the young mutant team Generation X. Quit in X-Men vol. 2 #4 (1991). Killed in X-Men: Deadly Genesis #2 (2006).
Powers: Sonic scream, allowing flight and enhanced hearing.
Storm Ororo Munroe Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) Second field-leader and longtime leader of the team. She has been a continual member of the main team longer than any other from 1975 until 2000 excluding interim periods; currently living in Wakanda, married to the Black Panther, and a member of the Fantastic Four
Powers: Weather control, can also control air to fly.
Sunfire Shiro Yoshida Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) Quit in X-Men vol. 1 #94 (1975) after only one mission but remained an ally for years afterward. Recently served as Apocalypse's Horseman of Famine. Currently working for Mister Sinister.
Powers: Absorbs solar energy used for atomic fire blasts and flight.
Colossus* Piotr Rasputin Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) Supposedly died in finding a cure for the Legacy Virus in Uncanny X-Men #390 (2001); restored to life in Astonishing X-Men vol. 3 #4 (2004); currently a member of Cyclops's team.
Powers: Can change into metal form with superhuman strength and durability.
Thunderbird John Proudstar Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) Died in X-Men vol. 1 #95 (1975) on the team's second mission. His brother James Proudstar aka Warpath is on Professor X's current team.
Powers: Superhuman strength, speed and durability.

Shadowcat* Katherine Pryde X-Men vol. 1 #129 (1980)
as Kitty Pryde
Current member of Cyclops's team. Active as Sprite in X-Men vol. 1 #139 (1980); active as Ariel in Marvel Graphic Novel #5 (1982); active as Shadowcat in Kitty Pryde & Wolverine #5 (1985).
Powers: Phasing, technological disruption when phasing through it, can walk on the air.
Lockheed* Lockheed the Dragon Uncanny X-Men #168 (1983) Shadowcat's dragon is sometimes considered a member of the X-Men teams in general. Current member of Cyclops' team and mole in the X-Men for S.W.O.R.D.
Powers: Flight, empathy, firebreathing.
Rogue* Anna Marie Uncanny X-Men #171 (1983) Has served as a field leader; current field leader in X-Men. Once had the powers and memories of Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers); was forced to absorb Sunfire's abilities permanently in Rogue vol. 3 #11 (2005).
Powers: Absorbs powers, memories and personality by touch. Prolonged touch can cause Rogue to permanently absorb the subject's powers and perhaps kill them.
Permanently Absorbed Powers: Absorbs solar energy used for atomic fire blasts and flight.
Marvel Girl* Rachel Summers Uncanny X-Men #188 (1984)
as Rachel Summers
Daughter of Jean Grey and Cyclops from an alternate future that may never come to exist; active as Phoenix in Uncanny X-Men Annual #9 (1985); active as Marvel Girl in Uncanny X-Men #444 (2004). Currently a member of Professor X's team.
Powers: Telekinesis, telepathy, timetravel through astral projection.
Magneto Erik Lehnsherr Uncanny X-Men #202 (1985) The team's long-time enemy was briefly "redeemed" and appointed leader of the X-Men and the junior team The New Mutants; became Headmaster of the Xavier Institute in Uncanny X-Men #200 (1985).
Powers: Manipulation of electro-magnetic forces.
Psylocke Elisabeth Braddock Uncanny X-Men #213 (1987) Twin sister of Captain Britain aka Brian Braddock. Has served as a field leader. Killed by Vargas in X-Treme X-Men #2 (2001); returned alive in Uncanny X-Men #455 (2005). Originally Caucasian but switched bodies with an Asian female assassin by the Hand which also changed and expanded her powers. Thought to be dead in New Excalibur #8, unhinged from time and currently with the Exiles.
Powers: Formerly: Telepathy Now: Telekinesis, immunity to any physical or mental alteration, ninja who wields telekinetic katana.
Dazzler Alison Blaire Uncanny X-Men #214 (1987) First X-Man to have on-going solo series. Popular singer and public mutant. Went through Siege Perilous when team disbanded in Uncanny X-Men #251 (1989). Currently in New Excalibur (2005).
Powers: Absorbs sound which she can convert into light, lasers, hypnotic lights, holograms and others.
Longshot Longshot Uncanny X-Men #215 (1987) A warrior from an alternate reality, the Mojoverse; not a mutant but a genetically engineered being. Quit in Uncanny X-Men #248. Currently in Exiles.
Powers: Superhuman agility, probability field manipulation, psychometry.
Forge Unrevealed Uncanny X-Men #255 (1989) Quit in Uncanny X-Men #290 (1992). Former leader of X-Factor, currently provides technical support to the X-Men and their allies.
Powers: Inventive genius, magic.
1990s recruits
Jubilee Jubilation Lee Uncanny X-Men #273 (1990) Was dubbed by Bishop as the last X-Man; removed from active duty in X-Men #157 (2004) by Cyclops. Currently depowered by the effects of M-Day: Decimation.
Powers: Can generate blinding lightshows and explosive plasmoids, telepathic resistance.
Gambit Remy LeBeau Uncanny X-Men Annual #14 (1990) Has served as field leader. Joined forces with Apocalypse in X-Men vol. 2 #184. Currently working for Mister Sinister.
Powers: Turns potential energy into kinetic energy, enhanced agility, transmit air into poisonous gas, hypnotic charm makes people trust him.
Bishop Lucas Bishop Uncanny X-Men #287 (1992) Police officer from an alternate future. Left the X-Men to side with O*N*E. Currently, one of Iron Man's pro-registration forces guarding Negative Zone prison.
Powers: Can absorb energy and emit energy as focused blasts or enhanced strength.
Revanche Kwannon X-Men vol. 2 #20 (1993) Former assassin who "switched" bodies with Psylocke (see her entry for details). Died in X-Men vol. 2 #32 (1994).
Powers: Telepathy, psychic blades and empathy.
Cannonball* Samuel Guthrie X-Force vol. 1 #44 (1995) First seen as an X-Man in Uncanny X-Men #323. Former member and field leader of The New Mutants and X-Force, first member of an affiliated team to "graduate" to permanent status as an X-Man; current member of Rogue's team.
Powers: Flight, protective forcefield.
Joseph N/A Uncanny X-Men #338 (1996) Clone of Magneto, died in X-Men vol. 2 #87 (1999).
Powers: Manipulation of electro-magnetic energy.
Cecilia Reyes Cecilia Reyes X-Men vol. 1 #70 (1997) Surgeon whose being a mutant was exposed during Operation: Zero Tolerance, reluctantly joined, last seen imprisoned in concentration camp in Weapon X vol. 2 #5.
Powers: Protoplasmic forcefield, forcefield can be used offensively as protoplasmic weapons.
Marrow Sarah X-Men vol. 1 #70 (1997) Apparently left the team after losing control of mutation; took place during six-month gap between Uncanny X-Men #380 and X-Men vol. 1 #100.
Powers: Can generate knives and weapons made of bone from her body, healing factor, enhanced strength and agility.
Maggott Japheth X-Men vol. 1 #70 (1997) South African mutant searching for Magento. Died in Weapon X vol. 2 #5 (2002), however survived by one of his slugs (Eeany and Meany).
Powers: Two maggot-like creatures form his digestive system and cause his skin to turn blue when in him. The maggots can consume anything, and provide him with enhanced strength, and psychometry.
X-Man Nate Grey Astonishing X-Men vol. 2 #2 (1999) Alternate version of Cable from the Age of Apocalypse, died in X-Man #75 (2001).
Powers: Telepathy, telekinesis, psychometry, precognition, cross-dimensional travel.
2000s recruits
Cable* Nathan Christopher Summers Between stories in Uncanny X-Men #380 and X-Men Unlimited vol. 1 #27, but first shown in Uncanny X-Men #381 (all 2000) Son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor, current member of Rogue's team.
Powers: Formerly telepathy and telekinesis. Currently technology-generated cyberpathy and forcefield. Retains techno-organic material on left side of body, resulting in technological advancements and enhanced strenghth on said side.
Thunderbird Neal Shaara X-Men Unlimited vol. 1 #27 (2000, flashback) First seen as an X-Man in X-Men vol. 2 #100 (2000). Quit in X-Treme X-Men #19.
Powers: generate plasma blasts.
Sage Tessa X-Men vol. 2 #109 (2000) as Tessa Had been working with Professor X off-panel since before X-Men vol. 1 #1, spied on the Hellfire Club for several years; active as Sage in X-Men vol. 2 #109. Quit in Uncanny X-Men #454. Current member of New Excalibur (2005).
Powers: Computer-like brain, jumpstarting mutations, telepathy.
Mirage Danielle Moonstar X-Men vol. 1 #102 (2000). Employee of the Xavier Institute and former New Mutant, who was "Part-time" X-Man in only one mission; currently depowered after the M-Day.
Powers: Illusions of a person's greatest fear and desire, communication with animals.
White Queen* Emma Frost New X-Men vol. 1 #116 (2001) Current headmistress of the Xavier Institute and Cyclops' team. Former White Queen of the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle; former headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy's Hellions and of Generation X.
Powers: Telepathy, can turn into diamond form.
Chamber Jonothon Starsmore Uncanny X-Men #398 (2001) Former Generation X member. Currently depowered after the effects of Decimation, powers restored by Akkaba Clan.
Powers: Bio-kinetic blasts, telepathy.
Kuan-Yin Xorn N/A New X-Men Annual 2001 Exact nature and identity of character not fully known (see entry for details), died in New X-Men vol. 1 #150 (2004).
Powers: A star in his head, vitakinesis, manipulation of electromagnetism and gravity.

M Monet St. Croix Uncanny X-Men #410 (2002). A member of the X-Corporation who was part of an understaffed squad of X-Men for only one mission. Currently a member of X-Factor Investigations.

Lifeguard Heather Cameron X-Treme X-Men #10 (2002) Sister of Slipstream, half Shi'ar; lover of Thunderbird. Quit in X-Treme X-Men #19.
Powers: Adaptive powers to protect others.
Slipstream Davis Cameron X-Treme X-Men #10 (2002) Brother of Lifeguard; was a latent mutant but powers were jumpstarted by Sage to save his sister and Gambit. Quit in X-Treme X-Men #18; Currently depowered after the effects of Decimation.
Powers: Warpspeed teleportation.
Northstar Jean-Paul Beaubier Uncanny X-Men #414 (2002) First openly gay X-Man. Former member of Alpha Flight; removed from active duty in X-Men vol. 2 #157 (2004) by Cyclops. Killed by a brainwashed Wolverine in Wolverine vol. 3 #25; resurrected by HYDRA in Wolverine vol. 3 #26.
Powers: Superhuman speed, flight, tough skin, generate light.
Husk Paige Guthrie Uncanny X-Men #421 (2003) Former Generation X member; Cannonball's sister; Archangel's lover; removed from active duty in X-Men vol. 1 #157 (2004) by Cyclops.

Juggernaut Cain Marko Uncanny X-Men #425 (2003) Formerly a long-time villain and Xavier's step-brother; not a mutant. Currently a member of the British based New Excalibur.

Sabretooth* Victor Creed X-Men vol. 2 #188 (2006) Long time foe of the X-Men and Wolverine. Formerly a member of the Marauders, Brotherhood, and Weapon X. Current member of Rogue's team.
Powers: Superhuman strength, enhanced senses, healing factor, razor-sharp claws and teeth, highly resistant to telepathic detection and control.
Warpath* James Proudstar Uncanny X-Men #475 (2006) Former member of the Hellions, X-Force, and X-Corporation. Current member of Professor X's team.
Powers: Superhuman strength, speed, flight, and enhanced senses.
Omega Sentinel* Karima Shapandar X-Men vol. 2 #192 (2006) Ex-member of the Genoshan Excalibur. Current member of Rogue's team.
Powers: Omega Prime Sentinel, superhuman strength, speed and resistance, regeneration, flight, electrostatic poles mounted on her arms, unspecified weapons and mechanisms that retract into her body.
Lady Mastermind* Regan Wyngarde X-Men vol. 2 #192 (2006) Former ally of Sebastian Shaw, daughter of Mastermind and half-sister of Martinique Jason. Current member of Rogue's team.
Powers: Projection of extremely realistic illusions into the minds of others, telepathy.
Armor* Hisako Ichiki Astonishing X-Men vol. 3 #20 (2007) Member of the Astonishing team and student at the Xavier Institute.
Powers: Ability to generate psionic body armor that grants superhuman strength and durability.
New X-Men

It debuted in vol. 2 #23 after a last-man-standing exercise to know which students were the most worthy to be trained. Wallflower, Blindfold, Ernst and Nezhno had been excused from the exercise. The students selected were to be trained as a junior team of X-Men.

Dust* Sooraya Qadir New X-Men vol. 2 #23 Afghan mutant who lost her mother. Was member of the Hellion squad.
Powers: Capable of turning body to sand, causing the sand to move quick enough to tear through flesh, very hard to telepathically locate.
Elixir Joshua Foley New X-Men vol. 2 #23 Former mutant-hating Reaver with gold skin. Kicked of the team for violence against Colossus. Former member of the New Mutants squad.
Powers: Omega level healer, capable of controlling all biology, shown so far by transmuting objects, bringing back dead and killing a person through touch.
Hellion* Julian Keller New X-Men vol. 2 #23 Favored student of White Queen and former leader of Hellions squad. Was denied a leadership role by Emma Frost because he saved X-23 from Onyxx during the training exercise that would determine the members of the New X-Men. Currently saving Mercury with X-23.
Powers: Advanced telekinesis, used for flight, blast of TK energy, force-fields and picking things up.
Mercury* Cessily Kincaid New X-Men vol. 2 #23 Irish-American cheerleader who was a member of the Hellions squad. Currently is being experimented on for her skin.
Powers: Body made of malleable, non-toxic mercury capable of being forged into various forms, such as weapons or tools.
Rockslide* Santo Vaccarro New X-Men vol. 2 #23 Italian-American bully who was a member of the Hellions squad. Dreams of being a professional wrestler. After being broken up to pieces during the fight wih Stryker, Hellion telekinetically put him together and gave Rockslide a larger, more rugged body.
Powers: Inorganic granite body that grants Santo super strength and endurance. Body parts capable of being projected, but must be picked up afterwards.
Surge* Noriko Ashida New X-Men vol. 2 #23 Japanese mutant that formerly took drug to control powers. Was given special gauntlets for control when joined Institute. Former member of the New Mutants squad. Now leader of the New X-Men.
Powers: Absorption of electricity which can be used for electric blasts and super speed.
X-23* Laura Kinney New X-Men vol. 2 #23 Wolverine's 23rd and first successful clone from a Weapon X recreation program. Former prostitute. Had a hiatus on the Uncanny team. Put on the team by Cyclops.
Powers: Superhuman tracking skills, heightened senses, healing factor, poison and fatigue immunity, two bone claws on each arm, one bone claw on each foot (all claws covered in Adamantium).
Prodigy* David Alleyne New X-Men vol. 2 #29 Former co-leader of the New Mutants. Depowered as of M-Day. Joined the New X-Men to fight William Stryker.
Powers: Formerly telepathic absorption and skills from the people around him, latent potential to absorb all knowledge known to man.
Allies and honorary members
Candy Southern Candace Southern X-Men: the Hidden Years #10 Angel's girlfriend. Helped Cyclops and Marvel Girl to find Warren (Angel) in the Savage Land.
Powers: None, human.
Multiple Man James Madrox Giant Size Fantastic Four #4 (1975). Mister Fantastic alerted Professor X to his existence and left him in his custody. He was offered membership many times over the years but always refused, however remained a staunch ally. Eventually joined Moira's splinter Muir Island X-Men (see below). Currently leader of X-Factor Investigations.
Powers: Generate copies of himself, which he can absorb.
Moira MacTaggert Moira MacTaggert X-Men vol. 1 #96 (1975) Longtime ally of Xavier's before he created the X-Men. A geneticist who aided the team for most of its existence until her death in X-Men vol. 2 #108 (2000).
Powers: None, human.
Ms. Marvel Carol Danvers The Avengers Annual #10 as Carol Danvers (1981) Between losing her powers as Ms. Marvel and gaining her powers as Binary, Carol was a resident of Xavier's school. Refused membership when Xavier offered it to Rogue.
Powers: Superhuman strength, flight, energy absorption and blasts.
Madelyne Pryor Madelyne Pryor Uncanny X-Men #221 (1987) Madelyne began staying with the X-Men when Cyclops left her to form X-Factor. She stayed with the X-Men until she became the Goblin Queen during Inferno.
Powers: Being a clone of Jean Grey she possessed the same telekinetic and telepathic abilities, just at a lower level of power than Jean has.
Gateway Unrevealed Uncanny X-Men #229 (1988) Unofficial member of the X-Men. Teleported the team where they needed to go while they were based in Australia following their "deaths". Grandfather of X-Man Lucas Bishop.
Powers: Teleportation, telepathy, omniscience.
